was that 3571 3dmark score standard or overclocked?

he also got a score of 3948 with an over clock of 604/505mhz. i dont think that is that bad.

3571 is standard at 1024x768 resolution, 3190 standard and 3948 overclocked at 1280x800.

Stella if you are still looking at this thread can you redo your 3dmark score with a resolution of 1280 x 800 instead of 1280 x 1024? So I can compare it with the german marks?

Ok, so I have been reading this entire thread last night and this morning. WTF! So the dude on the german site got a 3571 while Stella got a 2906. I mean the dude who did the comparison between the 1520 and HP dv6500t got a freaking 5,532. Ok, I am not a super nerd but I am a f'n nerd and this is complete BS. Did any of them do a complete reinstall (asking cause I def can't read german.) Besides overclocking them, what could they of done to get that high of a score?

    @chewy: 3571 and not 5571
and stella had used a diffrent resolution, so you can't compare the results.

he got 3571 at 1024x768 and 3190 at 1280x800 and stella got 2906 at 1280x1024 I remember; that sounds logical for me.

maybe interesting for you, he has an T7100 und 1,5GB Ram

    HP dv6500t got a freaking 5,532

That must be the 3dmark05 score you listed, because the 8400 wont even hit 2000 in 06. The German guy is getting that high score by overclocking.

sorry but you mix up the benches.

stella has the highest resolution -> lowest score.

the german guy has 3571 at 1024x768 and 3190 at 1280x800 with standard clocks 475/400, he has 3948 with a clock of 605 core/505 mem (resultion her ist 1280x800). 505Mhz are his max clock speed, more is not possible, video card activates something like a secure mode with 2d clocks.

This shows that the 8600m GT has several different properties as we had all thought.

To find this information, scroll down near the bottom. There is a chart listing all of the 8x00ms along with their properties.

The table shows that it can be DDR2 or DDR3, and the memory clock can be 800MHz or 1.4 GHz. I'm not sure how one would get DDR3 or the 1.4GHz memory clock.

Hmm, I don't know much about all these clock speeds, and honestly don't care, but I'm still a little curious. Anyone wanna try this CPU-Z? Relatively simple program that just show you some info on your comp. I think it is way more accurate than the Rivida or whatver.

I just ordered my 1720 with the 8600GT yesterday - if I call them to inquire about this problem, will it be enough to say "Your site advertises 22.4GHz but actually it is 12.8GHz"? What should I ask them to do?

CPU-Z is a tool used for reporting CPU, FSB, and Memory clock speeds. It won't tell you anything about the video card.

No kidding. The only reason I even looked at this thread was to see some pictures of the new Inspirons. I could care less about the video card because I don't try and play high-end graphics games on a 14" notebook screen with a weak underperforming mobile graphics card. Arguing for hours about what the clock speed of the VRAM is but can't take 5 minutes to take a few pictures and upload to photobucket lol.

So if their 8600m GT is stuck at 12.8 gb/s, will it still be faster than the GS if it has double stream processors, but nearly half the bandwitdth?

    hahahaha, too funny.

Well anyways... I just tried calling Dell and I ended up not getting a refund although I talked to the supervisor. I told him that on the website they advertised 22.4 GB/s but in reality it is only 12.8, and that the vRAM speed is only 400 mhz not the 700 mhz which was advertised (from the 22.4). The so-called, " supervisor" said that the vRAM speed was 667 mhz. WTF?!?! It's either 400 or 700... I just didn't even feel like arguing with him and just said "okay, thanks, bye".

That's because he doesn't know what he is talking about. When you said vRAM and he said 667Mhz it's because he was thinking of the 667Mhz DDR2 system memory instead of graphics memory.

Just for comparison, that is a review of a Zepto with a 512MB 8600M GT

    These are the scores listed

    3D Mark '06 Scores:
    nVidia driver: 101.08
    Resolution: 1280x800
    '06 Score: 3329 points

That looks roughly inline with the dells

What it does show is that the extra 256MB doesnt make much difference (perhaps because its turbo cache?)

I'm the furthest thing from a noob concerning computer hardware. I just don't care about the bandwidth of the graphics card because like I said, I don't buy a 14" or 15" notebook to play video games. I buy them for mobility and application performance. I don't play PC games hardly at all any more and I'm only 23. I'm also not even really interested in buying something from the Inspiron line because of the lower build quality compared to even the XPS notebooks from Dell and their business line Latitudes but I just wanted to see some pictures out of this 40 page thread lol.

Hey guys--I got back up about 3:30 this morning and finished the review with lots of pictures (including comparisons to the E1505) and sent it to Andrew at about 9:30AM CT. He said it will be posted in the next day or so, probably tomorrow.

I can't change the resolution on the benchmarks because I have the free versions which are locked. I ran disc cleaner, defragged, restarted and ran 3DMark06 again and got the exact same score. The first run was 2906, and then the next two (after installing drivers from laptopvideo2go) were 2904.

Hopefully a new batch of people will be getting theirs today and we can get some more information. I'm curious to find out what others think of their screens.

No, its not turbo cached. Its 512 dedicated. The extra memory will help when a game can load textures and other details on the card. I'm not sure this would show up in synthetic benchmarks.
