In the back of your mind, you knew you shouldn't of bought a dell. Enjoy it, you bought it.
-
This thread is very long, can someone give me a summary up to this point?
-
Quick Question does it come with the express card remote...Please respond thankx
-
DDR2? DDR3? (repeat 30x)
Oh Noes DDR2! (repeat 20x)
People call dell and complain (repeat 5x)
We got ripped off vs whats the big deal (repeat 3x)
Woo Woo we got our laptops (repeat 5-7x)
Pics? Pics? WTF where are pics!? (repeat 100x)
That's all I can remember -

I read the whole thread. This is not false advertisement but rather called Bait and Switch. They lure you in with a nice apple and give u a rotten one. How did you get a $100 refund? Would you please give us details? I am interested in getting some money back or some kind of compensation.
-
Ok well i ran some system scans.
I dont know how to use Riviatuner so im not going to bother with that.
3d mark score: 28** pts. :/
Im gonna try and run GRAW2 and see how that plays.
No remote. sorry.
Btw a few intresting features i noticed: 1) the speakers are on the BOTOM of the laptop!
theres no firewire port. -
-
Just to confirm, an 8600 GT will make so much of a difference over my current mobile gpu (x300) that it really won't matter whether or not it's DDR2 or 3, right?
I can configure a 2.0ghz, 1680x1050, 8600 gt, 2gb ram, wireless n, bluetooth, 9 cell battery, audigy sound (is this worth the $25?) and 3 years accidental coverage for $1450 (thank you work discount). Good deal? -
-
So, how do I get the remote? The review showed a remote, and they didn't have the option get one in. Also, wtf is with the speakers on bottom.
-
I am still very excited for the computer, even though this let down happened.
-
I just looked at Stella's review and the pics are showing up...
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsId=3821 -
i just read it.
i noticed that there is a buldge sticking out of the back of your inspiron. Is that the 9-cell battery right? I dont like how its stickin out in the back. Do you think if i get a 6-cell i wont see the thing sticking out in the back? -
-
The 8600M GT, regardless of the memory speed, will absolutely blow away the X300 you're used to. You won't be disappointed if that's what you're comparing it to. -
-
I want to thank Stella for the worlds first review of Inspiron 1520! A good solid review.
Rep points to you! Of course!

screen looks dim, im beginning to fear 200nits on the 1680, yet it might just be the angle he shot it at. Is your brightness on full? Because someone else who is on this forum posted pics from the dell kiosk and the screens looked brighter, maybe because it was the bright 250nit screen of the 1440?
-
This was a pretty funny thread actually
I've got to say yea its pretty unfair and you guys could probably sue Dell and make a lot if you wanted to...haha.
Anyways yea it would have been much better to have GDDR3 as the card is already very memory bus limited and it will translate into lower gaming performance.
But will it be noticeably lower? No, you don't need listen to those "end of the world" comments because your just fine with ANY 8600GT. -
Stella, very nice review. The pictures are great!
-
UPDATE:
Ok i installed GRAW2 (Ghost recon) and i can play the game with high settings(not highest but if i turn down AA i get decent frame rates)
AOE 3 runs on full settings without a hitch. -
. Thanks.
Edit: I found it. Didnt take the effort to go back a couple pages.
-
Glad you guys are enjoying it! I didn't even realize it was up yet since it isn't on the main page.
About screen brightness--yes, I think it is quite bright enough. The pictures were taken in front of a west-facing window at about 8AM so they are all a little dim. -
Stella the pictures are great. I was hoping Dell would also supply a carrying case, like they use dto for 6400. Oh! Well!!!

A question on the remote Stella referred to in the review...
I placed my order for a 1520 three days ago, and I wanted a remote, so the dell rep led me to purchase this one http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0691231 my question is how do I get the one in the first review?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks, -
lol, "Submitted by Stella on Monday, January 01, 1900"? Dating error on the review page?
-
Haha that could be it. I'm sure it will be fixed.
-
I just called dell tech support about the 8600GT and they told me they don't know 'that kind of high level information, better to call NVIDIA'
-
Pretty nice review stella!!! Thanks
-
Question for the people that reformatted this: how many processes do you have running after reformatting?
-
anything new found with the 1520?
-
Plus $50+ for a little remote is bloody price gouging... -
-
Thanks, -
-
That's a very good review, Stella.
lol at this con: Confusing and complicated to order at the best possible price
...so true -
There's a little piece under the play/pause media button that looks like it might be an infrared sensor for the remote. This is just idle speculation, though!

Now for finding the review it appears Stella posted...

Apollo 13, since you appear to be the only one with the new inspirons, could you check to see how many bit color depth is your panel. Your 1520 manual states on page 185 that your screen is 262K color, which is 18bits, vs 1.6million colors or 24bit on the older Inspiron line.
I'm not really sure how to check on this, I think youcould try using Powerstrip to get the info on your panel. FYI just in case you didn't know, you cannot see the bit depth of your panel by reading the setting on your OS e.g. 16bit or 32bit. That only implies what the OS can drive, not what your panel can display. Thanks if you care to investigate. My thread on it is here:

exe: I don't think there are any 8-bit laptop panels out there, are there? I'm pretty sure they're all 6-bit.
-
Well, its a big bummer about the 8600gt but I did fight with dell until I got a $75 back into my account. People have been doing that so if you still want it, then Id try to get some money back too!
-
im sure gonna give it a try as well as see if I can get them to toss in that remote. I am just worried if they do, they will have to cancel my order and reorder it....
-
Yo liquid, I have some tips to getting the free remote for inspiron. Check out my thread.
