Just out of curiosity, does not having the 7200RPM hard drive affect your gaming experience?
-
no.............
-
The only thing a 7200 RPM HD will change is your load times. Games will still maintain their same exact FPS rating as before and everything else will be the same. It will just take a shorter time to boot the game.
-
Im wondering if many of the issues of the 1530 is due to the fact that the fans are blown directly downward and with the 8 cell, if you use the laptop on your lap, it actually damages the laptop in the long term as opposed to the 9 cell where its elevated so its blowing away? Has anyone used their laptop on their lap and have found it very hard to use due to all the heat from the fans blowing at your lap?
-
The fan blows out the back left side. Nothing blows out the bottom, it's all air intakes at the bottom. -
My mistake. I havnt received mine yet. Just finished reading this review:
http://www.electronista.com/reviews/dell-xps-m1530-review.html -
-
Just out of curiosity, is the ship dates always accurate? I mean my estimated ship date for my M1530 is the 27th of May. The only thing that was delaying shipment at the time of purchase was the 6-cell battery and something else. Does Dell typically ship out much earlier than that? Or is it actually accurate.
-
Ordering a M1530. I know there are faster bootup times for the 250GB and all, but I also heard negatives about how
1) The 7200 takes up more battery life (about 20 mins)
2) The 7200 is louder than the 5400 RPM
Are these true? What did you get for your M1530? Is the 7200 RPM worth it? -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Also more heat if I am right.If ther's a 320GB 5400rpm,go for it.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
It would be around there.I haven't used Dell but IBM is.So it should be same too.
-
I believe the difference is ~$70 from 250GB 5400RPM. -
Well, seeing if your order isnt on backorder (happens often w/Dell) it will come usually before that date. But it depends on what you ordered it with and what they have in stock at the time. Also how many orders they have at the time.
-
Which hard drive would you prefer or have for M1530? I'm having trouble deciding between two. I heard the 7200 RPM runs hotter and subtracts 20 mins of battery life and is louder. Is there really a noticable difference in boot time and stuff? Do advantages outweigh disadvantages?
-
Let's keep the threads to a minimum eh.

If you have a high capacity (ie. 250GB+) HDD with 5400RPM, chances are your loading time could be faster than low capacity (ie. 200GB and below) HDD with higher spin speed.
Transfer rate-wise: 320GB 5400RPM is faster than 160GB 7200RPM HDD's. -
Platter density FTW!
-
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The 7200 rpm drive will have a faster seek time and a faster throughput. It won't be a terribly significant difference unless you're doing a lot of hard drive thrashing (like tons of startups and shut downs).
If those few extra milliseconds of seek time and few extra mbps of throughput are important to you, you should go for the 7200 rpm drive. It WILL dump more heat, it WILL eat more power and it may or may not be noisier.
On the whole, most people will be happy with the 5400 rpm flavor; it's definitely by no means slow. I concur that if there is a 320GB 5400 rpm drive that that is the drive you should get. -
I got the 250 gb at 5400 too
-
I like 1680 resolution the best though I was thinking about buying the 1920 resolution display and lower the resolution setting to 1680 when I get it if it is too small for me. My question is will lowering the resolution to 1680 from 1920 cause the screen to have some bluriness or loss of quality compared to a display that is made for native 1680?
-
slightly...
-
Yep...I had a 1920 on an inspiron and any lower setting will make it fuzzy.
-
i will be getting that on my m1530 but the res will only go down for games though.
-
Long term damage to the laptop?
Hardware problems?
You drew those conclusions from a review that mentions none of those things? Seriously, get a clue and stop looking for problems where there aren't any. Not to mention the lack of correctness in the article as Rhodan brought up. Air intake is at bottom, air vent is at back, and the 6-cell battery is what I'd get if I wanted my 15.4" notebook to have a suitable form factor and weight for a 15.4" notebook. As an aside, if the air intake does get clogged due to use on bedding/carpet/etc, the entire cooling assembly is very easy to access and clean on the 1530. -
7200rpm and 5400rpm are a big difference, if your playing games it will be better to have 7200rpm for the loading..
-
You will have blurriness. Just increase the size of text and thing till you are comfortable with them.
-
i have only 120 gb 5400rpm, what i m going to do is.... wait for 1 or 2 years and buy a SSD
-
Yeah it will be blurry. Have to live with the 1920x1200 full resolution I guess. It's fine for me, just a little get used to.
-

-
I have the WD 160GB 5200rpm one. It's loud for some reason.

Continue discussion in the thread linked in Lithus' post(FYI, a poll has been added to the other thread).

Non-native will always have its impact on quality of the image. It's just less noticeable in games because the picture in games constantly changes.
-
-
7200 rpm would be my choice
-
just testing
-
Which did you get or prefer?
-
This is a random question, but with the 9-cell battery on the M1530 make it not feel that great using it on your lap? Also do you encounter any problems in putting the laptop in a carry case due to the protruding battery? Do you have to remove it before storing it?
-
Anyone have a 250GB hard drive and feel that it gets very hot and can hear a noise coming from your hard drive?
-
it depends on what ur using it for?
-
What difference does it make to know how many people have selected a specific resolution? And there are 4 resolutions available on the M1530.
Let have a poll on to see if people think we have too may poll..
Help me figure out M1530 config!+ other questions
