WXGA+ I believe provides the most readable screen with optimum real estate

Any of the first two, WUXGA seems to be a bit overkill for a 15".

I feel what your saying but I've gotten used to it. I kinda wish I had gotten both batteries when customizing mine and I probably will sooner or later.

I got 7200 and it seems good. Disk access is a big part of how long it takes to do things on a computer....and speed is more important than battery life to me.

Doesn't bother me at all. I have no problem packing it around. If you have to have it on your lap, at least it can still breathe as the intake vent is on the bottom. If you had the 6 cell, you would be blocking that vent on the bottom. Also when it is on a hard surface, it gets better circulation than the 6 cell. An extra two hours is worth it all.

I actually like having the 9-cell, even when working with it on my lap, as it props up the laptop, making the screen easier to see IMO.

The 17" in my 1720 is made by Samsung...

I have to say it is one of the best screens that I have ever seen on a laptop.

Seconded. With the same capacity, 7200RPM will give you better performance.

But again, if there is a 320GB available, that'd be my pick. Even if it has a slower spin speed, it'll probably run faster than a 250GB HDD @ 7200RPM due to higher platter density.

I would probably go with the 320 @5400 rpm, but if you do plan on gaming alot, i think that the 7200 rpm drive would probably have faster load times.

    and i do not have a 250gb @ 7200 but i do have a 160gb @ 7200, and a 200gb @ 7200 and they are not noisy at all.

getting hot, yeah they get pretty hot, but only when i am not using the notebook cooler.

and as far as battery life, i couldnt tell you what i was getting before i added the other drive, but out of a fully charged battery i get about 4-5 hours depending on what i am doing with it. normal usage, watching youtube, surfing the net, listening to music, i dont game with it thoguh.

I use the 9-cell batt. for my 1530 all the time, except when I am out-and-about (I use the 6-cell then). ;) :)

The 9-cell works out great for me, and the majority of the time ~ it is on my lap. I love the elevation in the back, and along with it..the venting it allows for the lappy to have ; :)

    Shipping Method: 3-5 Business Days
    Est. Ship Date: 6/10/2008
    Est. Delivery Date: 6/13/2008-6/17/2008
    Carrier: Not Shipped
    Tracking Number: Not Shipped

I just placed the order today for M1530, the only thing that says that might delay the ship date is the 250GB 7200RPM hard drive. Is it seriously gonna take that long because of the 250GB? Please tell me they ship it MUCH earlier than that. Its not like I'm getting SLI 8800M or something.

They tend to overestimate it, but that's really not an unusual length of time for dell to take shipping stuff. They did that with two of the three laptops I've bought from them..the 3rd came faster because it was a refurb.

Either that drive, or your battery, is causing the hold up. When I was on hold with Dell CS today, the message states that they are experiencing unusual delays in order fulfillment because of problems with supply.

Dell has been backed up lately, most service reps say it is due to a shortage of those 250gb hard drives, however it has also been attributed to certain screens and processors as well. I do think that the ship date there is overestimated, but probably not by as much as you would hope since there are people that ordered in mid to late April that still have there laptops "in production", so you have to get in line behind all of them who are waiting on the same parts you are.

Agreed, Dell always over-estimates their shipping dates. Most of the time, you will get it sooner than the estimated shipping date (barring any production problems, etc). ;)

    Oh, and congrat's on your 1530 purchase ;) :)

I will let you in on a little trick Dell uses that not many realize. If an item is delayed, there is a period of time calculated in that for that item. This is called lead time and can be from a few days to a few weeks.

In Dells calculations, there may be more than one item with a lead time. They calculate this consecutively not concurrently.

So lets say you have one item that is expected in 7 days and one in 8 days. They calculate this as an additional 15 days lead time when its actually only 8 total.

    Hope this helps...

Lefix, 1283 shipped? How so low? Mine was 1649 shipped with mostly the same specs.

Also, your sig says you are upgrading to 4GB 800mhz, you wont gain anything by going from 667 to 800 just FYI.

The chipset in the M1330/M1530 only supports up to 667mhz, so not only will not not gain anything, you will be wasting A LOT of money.

Lefix must have bought it when Dell had that $800 off + 40% off all upgrades deal going on which allowed you to get like $1500 off or something absurd like that. I also had a good laugh at the upgrade to 4gb 800mhz FSB, I would advise against that Lefix, otherwise a lot of that money you saved on the good deal for your notebook will be wasted anyway on RAM your computer can't support.

Kinda debating whether to get WSXGA+(1680x1050) or WUXGA (1920x1200). I just have a mess of things running around in my mind with advantages and disadvantages.

    1920x1200
    +More screen viewing area

-Text might be too small to read
-Puts more stress on graphics card since its higher resolution so when you play games on it, it will not run as well as if the native was 1680x1050.
    -More Battery Drain

    1680x1050
    +Gives enough screen viewing area

    -It's not high definition
-You might not have enough room.

    --------------------------------------
What made you guys choose decide what display to get? Anyone buy the 1920 and kinda regret they didn't get the 1680 or vice versa, or anyone actually return their 1920 after receiving it for a 1680?

I am a programmer, but like to be able to play games like COD4

You're not even going to be able to run many games well at 1680x1050 unless you crank the detail settings way down. Older games, maybe, but games only started supporting widescreen in the last two years or so. So I wouldn't factor that into your decision.

My M1730 has a new Samsung LCD just installed 2 days ago. It has a small black dot in the upper right corner, but it doesn't appear to be a dead pixel since it's only visible at certain angles (fortunately I can't see it from the normal viewing position in front of the keyboard). It does look pretty nice.

have any if you who have been used to high resolutions like 1680 chosen to get 1440 for the sake of LEDs and feel satisfied with the decision? Why did you do it and doesn't it feel kinda weird with the smaller resolution?

I read around forums that different screens have diffent brightness levels with the 1680 having the lowest brightness rating out of displays if other resolutions at 200nits while the 1440 has 250 nits and the 1440 led backlit having 300 nits. Is this true?

I currently have a 1680 res laptop and I've been eyeing the 1530 for quite some time now. I do think 1680 is a little small and I ended up increasing the font size in windows anyway. If I did take the plunge I would go for the LED 1440 for the benefits of led, I think it's the perfect res for a 15.4 inch, and the fact that I saw my friend's macbook pro with an led 1440 screen and it was very. very. nice.
