Handy thread as I've just used it to transfer over the warranty of a Dell Latitude D630 Laptop, which is covered by Next Business Working Day warranty for the next 160 days - tip top! :)

Quick one folks - after you've done the transfer do you receive any emails or letters through from Dell to confirm it's been successfully transferred over? Cheers :)

It's been a while, but I believe sometimes they send you and email.

It's best just to call them and ask if it's in your name.

Update: After getting mucked around royally by Dell UK (spent over an hour on the phone today!) I now have to go back to the seller to confirm the name of the company for whom the laptop was registered against to get the warranty support transferred over.

What a joke! Literally nobody at Dell UK was prepared to help me out despite myself having all of the relevant details and also previously adding the laptop into my products support list for my online Dell UK account - even the supervisors weren't prepared to help out!

You lads in the US appear to get the better deal out of Dell! LOL Just tried transferring over the warranty again, so fingers crossed it will go through this time...if not then c'est la vie.

I got a confirmation e-mail once the transfer has been completed. Mine took around 2 weeks or so since it was an international transfer and I didn't know any detail regarding the original owner. (bought from ebay, and the seller isn't the original owner)

I tried to transfer warranty at this form and I used "No Information" for Last/First Name and Zip code and I provide both service tag and express code but I failed.

I just received the email from Dell as follow:

Can you help me how to do this?

Hm, you don't know which country it originated from?

I'd call them. Tell them that you want to transfer the warranty, and that you have both the service tag and the express service code, so you don't need the original owners name. They'll probably tell you that you need the original owners name, but you don't.

Succesful -in making the transfer request

You should get an email once it is completed - usually no more than 2 weeks

Sweet. Thanks +1 to no information. Saved me hours of pain and suffering to get a keyboard replaced on a laptop with 50 days left on the warranty. BTW didn't work in firefox. I had to use IE as the submit button in firefox was grey.

Great thread, thanks for the info :)

I just bought an E6420 on eBay, trying to transfer the warranty from USA to Canada. Oddly with my machine the service tag brings up no original configuration (does Dell sell to companies that configure/assemble laptops themselves?). Furthermore it doesn't have red asterisks (for req'd information) on the original owner name but instead only the company name. Similarly for the transfer-to information, though address info was required, name was not--only company name had the asterisk.

It also asked what type of use it will be for (commercial/business, home, and some other options) for the new owner.

I put in "No Information" for the companies in both cases, and changed it to "Home" use on the transferee [my] info. Not sure if that's going to give problems but it did seem to go through the first part. Now I just have to wait for an email I guess. Will update when I get that.

you should get a confirmation in about 2 weeks or so.

I have transferred several ebay purchases from USA sellers to Canada.

If you used the online auto detect tool for the service code and express service code it seems to work well enough.

I also have seen several times where the config or warranty info does not show up on the dell site, but eventually it does

Well, it's been over two weeks and not a word from dell. SO, I guess that's a FAIL :(

Just as a side note. I tried using auto-detect for the system tag/express code, but it kept telling me it was unable to find my system tag, please enter it manually

i did call them. after the first time i had tried to do the transfer online, and got no response. And the guy on the other end outright refused me because i didn't know the previous owner info, even though i gave hiim both the service tag and express code.

You should call the Dell support number in Greece.

the number should be listed on the dell site in greece.

There name is really the only important detail. I've called Dell with just the previous owners name and they transferred the warranty. If they have the original receipt or invoice, have them send it with the laptop. The zip code that it was registered in couldn't hurt either.

    Hey guys, quick update:

I just transferred a Dell Inspiron 15R into my name. It was a US-to-US transfer. I put "No Information" in all the required boxes. Worked perfectly, and I now have the remaining 71 days in my name.

    Hi!

Dell doesn't care how you acquired the laptop or how much it cost, you can transfer the warranty.

    Enjoy the beast :)

    Hello,

I just did an International Ownership Transfer. After I submitted and I returned to check my system's warranty information, it stated No Information. Is it suppose to be like this?

I just purchase my system not long ago, not even 1 month.

    Attempting to transfer warranty on an L502X, putting 'No Information' in the relevant boxes but Dell keeps coming back and saying;

SERVICE TAG: 1T43RQ1 STATUS: Denied COMMENTS: The original owners information mentioned in the request is not matching with the records .Please refill an updated request and the link for the same is www.dell.com/dhs/globaltagtransfer.

    What should I do?

I just purchased a M4600 from newegg.ca and having trouble getting it registered in my name, I keep on getting "denied" status on the transfer.

I see there is a few different links to do the warranty transfer, I do live in Canada and this M4600 did ship from newegg's facility in the US. So which link should I use, could someone point me in the right direction?

I also sent a PM to Mourin@Dell in hopes of getting some help :)

Spent almost 2 hours on the phone with dell being transferred between the Canadian and US support for warranty transfer , they were telling me that dell US support has to help me and vice versa with Canadian dell support team.
Supposedly I need the company original name and owner info to get it transferred.

this is really frustrating, you would think since I have the original invoice from newegg.ca stating that I purchased it that it shouldn't be a problem getting into my name.

I hate the cat and mouse game, I can feel the my ulcers bubbling up from this issue :(

did you try the transfer using the m4600 online ?

it will detect the laptop and transfer the warranty you do need to make sure you use the express service code as well as the Service tag
