hey nizzy why do you need the extra plastics? why cant you just take out the screen and put in the new one?

do you need to ask for the plastics separate ? cause i didnt ask and i dont think im gonna get them.

isn't that what was said at the beginning of this thread? Dell just sends the bare screen and you reuse your old housing.

Like I said, all AUO WXGA+ screens for V1500 I have seen are Grainy....
Hope you didn't take it all apart and just do what I said earlier.

SEC3157 here, same grainy problems. Max brightness isn't very bright.

Trying email to Tech Support first, will phone later if unsuccessful.

dell is pretty funny.... i asked for XP059 screen because i heard it was the LG xga... Anyway their sending me a True life Wsxga+.... My eyesight isnt so good which is why i opted for the Xga when i bought my comp. Still if this screen has no grains ill keep it and just wont run the native res.... I used to have WSXGA+ on my asus and it was a bit too small for me. Oh well, i pray it has no dead pixels/ grains.

funny thing is i asked them 5 times to make sure their sending the lg xp059. They said they will make sure it will get done right. Then i said "thats why im worried" . lol i guess i wasnt mistaken. Still this is proving to be a hassle, if the next screen is even adequate or = to the one i got now illl keep it. Hope its an LG... :()

The only reason I haven't made the jump to 1680x1050 is because of the negative impact it will have on 3D performance. Since these mobile GPU's are crippled with a 128-bit memory bus, they get starved at those resolutions and performance drops off sharply.

Sure you can just play at a lower resolution...but it won't be pretty and I'd never deem it acceptable.

Did any of you guys get a phone call after requesting your screens? From a 'Quality Control Official Representative' asking you to take pictures of your screen issues?

This was new for me, of all the calls and such I've made to computer companies over the years, I've never had them call me after parts were sent out; to help aid them in quality control studies.. :S

My new screen should be here Tuesday. If I can get anything that is what mine is without dead pixels I'll be happy..

My old AUO was replaced with an SEC panel. The new panel is actually a hair less bright, but the contrast is SO much better and there is zero grain / sparkle / oily look. Combined with no dead pixels, I'm perfectly content now.

Can you go into the Device Manager and tell me what the screen is?

Mine is an SEC3157 and is a textbook example of one you would want to get replaced.

Thank you again for contacting Dell, it is a pleasure to help you.

Unfortunately we can only send the available parts, the LG-Phillips is not available for replacing.

However, If you are interested to get new parts you can contact Spare Parts and Accessories:

It's an SEC4457. No grain, good viewing angle. Does exhibit some slight vertical banding when viewed from the left side, but only on very dark / black screens. I'm satisfied :)

I went through 3 SEC3350's, all exchanged through the "on-site" warranty service. Dell finally convinced me to send my whole unit into the "depot" for a good once-over. I got it back 2 days later, and I now have the LPLF300. It is incredible when compared to 3 Samsung's I had. Great veiwing angles, tons brighter, and NO grain. I am so proud! Before I sent it off, I did tape a big fat note on the front of my LCD that stated I wanted the LG/Phillips screen #xk309. Don't give up guys! Be persistent. We shouldn't have to pay for sub-par materials when better things are available. Good luck to all of you.

ya i got the xk309 recently. It is amazing, and i recommend everyone try to get this screen. Regarding performance, yes fps will drop, but i'm going to overclock my card a little to make up for it i think

I also have the SEC4457 (vostro1400) and saw the same vertical banding on my screen, from the left. I have another (5th or so) replacement coming in, which started with the grainy screen originally. I guess we will see if this problem is native to all the sec4457 panels...

Just got my 1400 today and I have the SEC4457 as well. I do notice some very slight grainyness, but not enough to be bothersome at all. I do have a bit of an issue with quite a bit of light-leakage at the bottom of the screen. Also I'm a bit miffed about the brightness. To me, anything lower than 2 below max is incredibly dim. The max brightness is pretty bright, but anything below it drops off a lot. Overall I'm happy with the machine. Love the size and feel of it. I don't mind the minimalist design at all and the keyboard is a delight to type on.

So, from reading this thread (and from the lack of replies to my inquiries about AUO/1400/wxga+) - is the dreaded grainy AUO problem more or less limited to the 1500's? It seems like every single person in this thread with grainy screen problems has a 15.4" screen (inspiron or vostro).

Is that the case? I did notice on AUO's product page that they do have 14.1" wxga+ screens though(with atrocious specs)

    Can you explain vertical banding?

I have the SEC screen as well and when watching a movie, despite the average viewing angles I don't see anything 'odd'.

i replaced my screen... contrary to my belief its an LG and it is perfect ! the guy knew what he was talking about after all... its so gorgeous you guys should take a look at it :LPLF300.

So basically i got a free upgrade from WXGA to WSXGA and i got a perfect screen instead of grainy. (i only had to go thru 2 replacements).

I had taken pictures of the old screen before it went out but i got banned that day so ended up deleting them. So i guess i cant do a good comparison, but trust me it was worth it.

Awesome! Good to hear bro.. My screen hasn't arrived yet.. Was suppose to arrive today but nothing.. HOPEFULLY, it comes tomorrow or I'm gonna make the shipping company or Dell pay for the two days of work I now have missed waiting for a eff'n screen.

    Hey DeusEx,
On Dells site my screen comes up as this,
    'SVC,LCD,15.4WXGA,VESA $209.00'

I don't know if this was asked/answered but any clear indications of what screen I'm getting? God it better be perfect especially after talking 1 on 1 with a quality control official on the issue and explaining my needs and what the system is used for. I'd likely smash the screen over there head if it's a flaky one.

well sounds like ur getting a 1280x800 screen but im not sure about anything else. It also looks like its the MAtte scree... and now that i have true life, i would never again get the matte. the amount of sparkle in the matte is ridiculous.

You will have to install the monitor to find out what brand it is, hope it works out for you.

b2theeyo.... if the description doesnt say "TLF" then you are most likely getting a matte screen... And i would recommend dell chat because you can think before you respond, making your arguments better. Its easier to get stuff done right that way. my .02
