well they say that the newest driver isn't always the best one. a good hint is to use the most downloaded one :)
looks like 165.01 would be the one even if is 4 months older now. anyway 30fps in WoW is a little too low.. you need another driver for sure.

Is the eye role indicative of sarcasm or do you just do that with every post?

Also, can I apply a coupon, 4% student discount I get, and another 4% discount a family friend gets (through his work) or can I only apply one of those (to which I would apply the one that would get me the highest savings, or course).

I just noticed that it is supposed to mean "sarcastic" but I was using it to express how proud I am about something! :D
Usually you cannot combine multiple discounts online, but I did combine 2 of them over the phone when ordering ;)
You might want to try that too!

Hello fellow owners of the dell inspiron 1520 and all the like, I recently bought this by phone and got what I call a decent deal. I also got the 3 year lojack, accidental warranty and blah blah blah, and I'm wondering just how good or bad is this screen? I only had $1,500.00 dollars *american* to work with and this is what i could get, and the basic 56whr battery as well, and the 1308g mini card; all through university/student/dell card holder discount and the ones they offer on the site. if anyone has any reccomendations or any comments please write away! lol
oh! and what kinda fps would i get at the current resolution, and with my processor?

    thanks a bunch!

Ajyst, I'd reccomend getting the T7300 processor and kicking the hard drive up to a 7200rpm one for faster load times and such, but that's just one opinion.

You should basically be able to play all current games at medium-high settings, and have some lasting gaming ability.

Ajyst, I don't know anything about the glossy screens. sorry.
But the anti-glares are.. ethereal !

OMG ! I just discovered that there is a Creative bar that auto-hides itself in the top center part of the LCD. If you pass the mouse over that zone it just slides down the Creative MediaSource bar, offering ALL THE TOOLS I MISSED SO FAR! :D

I boosted bass level to 10db and enabled EAX effects and now I really have a great audio card! check it out guys !

Will the 7200rpm really make that much of a difference in load times or is it somewhat neglible? *spelling may be off* i'm also thinking about investing another 200 in there to get an anti glossy screen or a high definition screen--i've been hearing mixed reviews over grayness in the high definition screens.... oh and also to upgrade the battery to a 9cell*at the least* but i doubt that it would fit in my laptop carrying case that says it's designed to hold up to 15.4 inch laptop.....
    decisions..decisions.... althought i'd rarely be at a place without a socket !

while 7200rpm gives about 25-30% extra performance in access times and speeds, spending the same money on a glossy higher res screen or higher processor (7500 instead of 7300) gives you practically.. nothing!

i have the anti-glare screen and I have no grains at all and the brightness is incredible even in direct sun light. I watched a sport game today while riding the train and the sun was almost perpendicular on my screen .. have to tell you.. if I had a glossy I would have probably thrown it away.

    Sweet! Damn man your fast!
Wow, this screen sounds amazing! But what if you are in low light areas or in the dark, I know as dumb as it may sound but this is my first laptop and I really want to know everything I can before I make my decision in switching/upgrading my machine. Will it be just as bright as any other screen or will there be any difficulty, or will it require color/brightness etc. adjustment?
And once I upgrade the harddrive, what kinda power/speed would I be able to experience with the T7500 processor versus the T7300?
*keeping in mind I'm the eldest brother and one of the younger brothers got a laptop earlier this year and has been parading it around...well you get the idea...its kinda a brotherly show-up if you guys can understand what I mean*

hahaha..I know a little pride but hey! This laptop needs to carry me for the next 3 1/2 years, thats when I finally become an O.T.

Once again, Thanks so much for the speedy replies! This really helps me, and thanks everyone for being so civil and not flaming, like some of the other forums which I will not mention..heheh..

In low light areas all screens are good. In fact, I have to turn the brightness down sometimes when I webcaming myself because there is too much light on my face! But in direct sunlight the two screen types behave so different ;)

like I told you already.. there is a big speed difference between a 7200rpm SATA and a regular 5400rpm HDD. But you cannot see any difference between a 7300 and a 7500 processor, only maybe if you are encoding movies or something else processor-powered... you'll then gain let's say 3-5 minutes for each hour of coding. Is this a real gain for you?

    I second everything Jaymz said.
I have the glossy 1400x900 and I love it. I am mostly indoors when I use and Im a night person (typing this at 2 am).
I would recomend going with the 5400 hd since solid state hds would be available and affordable in a couple of years, so u can upgrade.

Solid State hdd's, yah i first heard about that maybe 4 years ago, or atleast just the idea of the possibility of it going mainstream..but anywho.. anyone else have to wait about 45 minutes just to get to a living person on the phone? I waited yesterday from 3:35pm when i got out work til 4:58pm and I finally got a live person! ...to then be transferred to another person which never picked up the phone....... How backlogged are these 1520's ??? I mean I know they are but not entirely sure as to How Long!
I'm beginning to wonder how much longer it would take once I upgrade the HDD and downgrade the processor to the T7300, how much longer it would delay my 1520 shipment... ordered it 8/6/07..estimated build 8/20/07...to be delivered no later than 8/27/07..... College Fall classes begin that same day...and its the same weekend I go compete for an amateur filmmaking contest...and it'd be nice to have it there with me so i can do some fast digital editing on the go...... Arg! Blarg! Hawnk!

Installed drivers last night, will check fps a little later. I was getting like 50fps running around shatt with 4x multi and AA on full, the only place where it was slowing is when I was looking at a'dal, or whatever the big shiny guy in the middle was really up close. But god, it looked gorgeous.

Also, something to keep in mind with faster hard drive is increased power consumption. I certainly wouldn't say a WXGA+ or WSXGA+ screen is without gain, as mentioned earlier...some people need the increased real estate over extra speed/decreased battery life. Regardless, I have a 5400 rpm drive, and load times and everything is fast enough for me not to care in the slightest.

I upgraded the HDD and downgraded the wireless a day after ordering and still got it in 5 business days! :)
just make sure you ask for the Jet Black lid too and maybe, the anti-glare screens are speeding up the shipping too, but not sure

they have the exact same power consumption, that's why I didn't hesitate to upgrade it ! :D
yeah, for those guys there is a gain, having to look at an entire 10 Megapixel picture on a 15" screen ! what gain would that be? they will anyway use the zooming tools to see the details :)

Are you talking about the hard drives? Everything I had heard until now was that the 7200 rpm drive, since it spins faster, by nature will use more power than a 5400 rpm drive.

Some aspects of Dell do operate on weekends. Customer service, chat and some others only function on weekdays between certain times. The manufacutring place works (i believe this is correct) 8 hours Monday thru Friday and 10 hours on Saturday and Sunday. I may be incorrect about the lengths, but I do know that the manufacturing aspect of dell does operate on weekends.

When I check the website it says "In Production", but when I call the order status line they tell me it's in "Boxing" stage. Then it gives me the same estimated ship date of 9/7 lol. Anyone know how long it takes after "Boxing" starts?

    It varies...
depending on whether it's actually in boxing or if you were given misinformation. Actualy boxing doesn't take an entire day, so if it is in that stage, it should be given to DHL by the end of today or tomorrow.

i posted this in another thread but. i was wondering if you guys knew anything about this.

I got my service tag number. and i went to order status on my account page and clicked on my order number, this page came up with everything included in my laptop.
i scrolled down to see "HIGH RESOLUTION, GLOSSY WIDESCREEN 15.4" while i ordered 15.4 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with Truelife.

is that just another name for it haha, or should i be worried they gave me the wrong screen?
