It should you will have to take off the keyboard to access one of the ram slots but it should work. Its not hard to remove the keyboard. I know because i had to do it with the dead one that I treceived in the mail

Actually a lot of people, and even older dell employees have mentioned that you CAN get very different prices by just going through a different website or even just going there a couple minutes later.

Was wondering if someone with their 1520 already could post a video or a picture using the integrated webcam. It would be highly appreciated.

It sticks out the back maybe half an inch. It doesn't make the note book sit at an odd angle like the HP 12 cells. I really don't see a reason not to get it unless you are absurdly obsessed about shaving ounces or your bag can't accomidate the extra space. Tack on an extra inch from the dimensions of the dell specs if to be safe if thats a concern, I guess.

alright...i read the last few pages and it seems no one has gotten their inspiron yet. well, i hope i'm correct that i am the first one to post on this board that i've just received mine today. my shipping date was supposedly july 26th, however i received an email yesterday evening saying that my laptop has been shipped. Knowing hat I chose the 3-5 days free shipping, I wasn't expecting the laptop until maybe thursday for friday. but i was surprised when i got home today and my laptop was in my room. Man was that exciting or what!

Anyways, i got a midnight blue t7300, 8600m gt 1440x900 inspiron 1520. and im so proud of it that i created an account here just to post it. so far, i've barely finished installing divers and i'm currently setting up my email. i have to transfer all of them from my old computer. but i ran into a very annoying problem: my internet explorer is super slow out of the box. i don't know why. is this a vista thing? i mean, even when i'm not using it, IE will be using full processor speed. I know i don't have a virus...i mean i've only been online for like an hour!!! firefox works fine.

Edit: i took a picture to test out the webcam...and also for proof that i really did get it :)

Can someone elaborate on the difference between the black casing and the colored one? Based on the dell description, it sounds as though the colored one might be more durable, and I'm trying to figure this out, as the EPP plan I'm in charges $20 more for the color.

I have a 9 cell battery and you hardly notice it. It does weigh quite a bit though, but It's worth it.

that webcam pic was great, best pic I have ever seen off a webcam. I am majorly annoyed though, mine was due to ship on the 18th, and it still says in production, when someone that was supposed to get his on the 26th already has his, coupled with the fact of all the other issues I have had with trying to order a laptop from dell for the last two months, I am thoroughly not happy. But to make sure people know where my anger is directed, congrats to the guy that got his early.

which screen did you have? Is there really bad bleeding, or do you have to have sharp eyes to see it? Did you try and update the drivers and see if maybe that might fix it?

Yes, the drivers were updated as I did this with the tech. matte finish. There just is no excuse for this. My wife saw the color hanging around the text. Neighbors saw it. Text should be black not red. Fast shipping. Rushed it to me and they did a faulty job. Made in Malaysia

What kind of screen did you have? The glossy or anti-glare? Sounds like you have anti-glare. Is it your video settings?

    edit:
Hearing some bad things about these laptops. It seems the quality is dropping due to the rush?

Why would I remove it from my sig? The Dell rep told me the 8600 is DDR2. Should I remove T7100 and 2gb ram and WSXGA+ from my sig as well?

Someone tell me I at least got a decent deal. I keep seeing everyone with these $1000 1520's...I just put a lot of crap in mine, I guess.

BTW, my EPP plan (which has been the cheapest option I've had, even with the $300 coupons and such) costs $40 more to go from 1 year complete coverage to 3 year complete coverage, and actually costs MORE for 2 year complete coverage than 3 year complete coverage due to a higher % discount (12 vs 4, I think) for the increased coverage. So, for $40, I figured an extra two years of coverage was worth it. Also, the sales rep I talked to was nice, and took $25 off my purchase for using a Dell account (more cashback than I'd get from my credit card).

Hey Everybody. This is my first post here, great site with great information!

This is my first notebook purchase, although I have had many desktops. I'm a Architecture student and this will be used for AutoCAD, etc. I ordered a Inspiron 1520 on 7/11/2007 and is scheduled to arrive on the 25th.

    Here is what I ordered.

    -Inspiron 1520
    -Midnight Blue
    -Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2
    -2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
-15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife LCD
    -256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    -160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
-Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (Going to Upgrade to Buisness through my school for free)
-Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    -Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card
    -Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Mod
    -8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
    -Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
    -Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
    -Creative Earbud EP630
-85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    -3 Years Limited Warranty
    -3 Years Warranty Support
    -3 Years CompleteCare Accidental DamageProtection
-3 Years LoJack Theft Recovery Service
    -Dell Additional Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter
-ExpressCard Media Remote for Bluetooth-enabled Notebook

    Subtotal: $1,576.33
    Shipping and Handling: $4.99

    Sales Tax: $137.52
    Total: $1,718.84

I ended up calling to ask about the IR remote and the rep said that it is not an option at all. Then he proceeded to talk about the bluetooth remote, which IMO is better anyway. He ended up giving me laptop with the remote and Vista Premium for cheaper than I could build online without.

I'm very excited to recieve my laptop!

Cleartype? If the so called expert techs at dell for 3 hours a few calls
to techs and no one knows what the problem is. On my desktop the text is fine, black. On laptops is it different due to the lcd. This is crazy.

I thought they give you a reinstall disc, but the reinstall disc would reinstall all the bloat ware. Right? Correct me if I am wrong.

    edit:

I assume you wanted to reinstall to remove all the bloat ware.

Well, I emailed my case manager, and she gave me the remote control, so I am happy about that. I also found out that the Sunshine Yellow color is the reason for the hold up right now. I am going to email her and see if I change it to the Spring Green color, will she have to redo the entire order thus giving me a later ship date, or if they can change that and ship now.

Does anyone have pics of the "Anti-Glare" XGA screen or any positive/negative experiences with it? Also, does anyone think it would be somewhat of a waste to pair this screen with a 8600gt? Thanks.

Seconded for more info. Enlighten us, please, cause I'll cancel my order if I can get it cheaper than I'm paying now.

The only thing I can think of to make mine cheaper is someone mentioned a stackable 4% off if you use dell preferred account to purchase by first saying you'll use a credit card. $75 or so back isn't shabby, but I haven't heard this confirmed. Also, if a 15% off coupon is stackable with the $289 they're taking off the 1520 in EPP, but I'd rather not buy the coupon if it's going to do me no good. Anyone have one I could try the code on? :)

I think for the money your going overkill with the 7500, I just don't see it as being best bang for the buck, but that is up to you in the end. But overall other then that, considering you have the extended warranty on there, I don't view that as being a bad price at all, considering what the options you put into the laptop. But question, just how long did you get the warranty for? It says 1 year and then i see a discount for 3/4 years indicating you added one of those. If it is either one, I still don't feel that to be a bad price.

I have been meaning to ask you guys, is it possible to add their warranty later, similar to how Apple does their apple care, meaning as long as I do it before the end of my original warranty? I don't have the money to get the 3/4 year warranty now, but would like to pick it up if possible later.

Well, I have been using it for about 3 days now and I absolutely love it! All this talk about 7.4 pounds and 6.9 pounds doesn't even matter to me. I don't really feel the difference when it's in my backpack because I carry way more heavier stuff. The thicker size doesn't seem to bother me either; in fact, I really like the tough build. It really feels like it could take some beating. And the top cover feels absolutely amazing. It feels sort of soft to the touch, but it is not soft at all! Well I haven't gotten a chance to play some games on it...but i will! I hope everyone gets theirs soon too.

To Liquidx: I sure don't know why Dell decided to send it to me like 2 weeks before the shipping date that they gave me, but I'm sure you're gonna get yours soon. Just don't think about it too much and it'll come when you least remember it haha. And I don't know why everyone is having such a bad time with Dell's customer service, but they were superb with me. And the waiting time to get to a rep was super short also. And the rep spoke fluent english! He was great.

hehe, I don't even deal with the reps anymore, I have a case manager and I make her do everything for me. The reason I am dwelling so much is I originally ordered one on May 14th and have yet to ever see a laptop from Dell. And before anyone says anything about me cancelling the one order in lieu of the 1520, that was because my original one was supposed to ship July 16th, and the 1520 is to ship on the 18th, so I don't feel that is so much to ask. I did find out today it's because of the color i chose that is my hold up on that.

I am happy to hear, however, that you seem to be very happy with yours. After all the negative complaining about the vid card from so many people, it's nice to hear good things about the laptop i'm supposed to be getting. So congrats to you on a well made purchase, and may you have many years of notebook happiness... :D

Based on my previous experience with my Inspiron 6000, I don't feel this is a bad deal at all. I got 2nd day repair turnaround, because I called at around 3pm, on a broken LCD, and no questions asked replacement of a keyboard, and they didn't charge my credit card when I didn't send back the one with one...that's right, one...key that had popped off and was being stubborn. I figured since it was dirty I might as well try for a replacement and I had one shipped after about 3 minutes on the phone. The LCD screen they replaced was slightly defective, had a small area about the size of a penny that when bumped, looked like it was swirling...I called about noon, next day I had a repair tech replace with a functioning LCD.

Plus it always happens, when you get the 1 year warranty, 366 days later something breaks. ;)

Dell will send you a flyer in the mail near the end of your warranty to extend it at usualy a lower price. At least they do that for small business because I get those flyers all the time for our machines.

lol, you posted that right as i was posting the other.

I guess i should just email my case manager and ask her. Really if she doesn't tell me i can get it later, I still can't get it now. I stretched my budget as far as i could just to get this laptop.

edit: the reason I said to email case manager was because this is a home purchase, and may be different then small biz

    A few questions:

    1. Can an owner plz confirm the SATA AHCI driver through Device Manager? Is it the ICH8EM?
    2. Who here has tried isntalling XP on their 1520? Did you need to slipstream SATA hard disk drivers?

    Thanks!
