My order just changed today (7/19) from "BUILD" to "BOXING". I chose the 1280*800 MATTE (anti-glare) screen.
My order was also moved to "high priority" (not a shipping classification), so I don't know if that was just BS from a rep or if it really is true.
I ordered on 7/13 and est.ship is 8/1.
Hopefully earlier...![]()

Hey guys,
sorry for the stupid question, but where do you go to see the detailed status.
All I see is in "production."
Also, I keep reading all you guys getting $100 dollars for the delay and the ddr2 graphics makes me wonna call in and try to do the same (us college kids don't make a lot of money part-time -
Its an accessory that dell sells. -
-
Ordered: July 6
Original Ship Date: Aug. 6
Revised Ship Date:7/19/2007
Website was updated today. -
I've scanned through this thread a bit and there still seems to be uncertainty as to whether the 8600gt is ddr2 or ddr3. I have had my 1520 for a few days and rivatuner is reading the card as ddr3 with a memory clock of 400mhz (800mhz effective). I'm using the drivers that came with the laptop.

Hey guys!
Did you read this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=141100&page=8 ? -
Wow I just called dell and my 1520 is in the boxing stage. Just yesterday it was in the build stage, I ordered it on the 17. Is this good,am I lucky or still in for a long wait?
-
Fate00 - What are the specs for your 1520? My order went into the build stage on the morning of the 16th and it's still there.
-
It's confirmed: I WILL never get my 1520 as I keep cancelling and re-ordering.
Just kidding...I did cancel and reorder to get the 4% discount, and then again because the Dell rep I called couldn't add an extra 6-cell battery onto my 9-cell included in the order (I figured it was worth it for an extra $25) but they could cancel, so I just cancelled instead of sitting on hold for 15 minutes for someone ELSE who MIGHT be able to help, or MIGHT just give me their voicemail and never get back to me like the first time I tried. I'm not really on a schedule, though, so...glad to hear everyone else's is really nice
.
-
How do you cancel a Dell order? Can it be done online or you have to call? I'm worried about the screen issue with the 1440x900 and may decide to change to the standard screen (1280x800), which I haven't heard any issues on. Plus I save $50 that I can put towards a faster processor.
-
Unfortunately, you have to call in to cancel an order, but once I did it was generally taken care of pretty quickly.
-
Mine jumped to boxing yesterday too. Hopefully it wn't take the entire estimated ELEVEN days to put a laptop in a cardboard box.
Heck, I could do that in eleven SECONDS. -
Or so I hear, anyway. -

Im interested in getting the DELL EXPRESS CARD/ REMOTE CONTROl for college comfort, so, does the package includes the remote control, or do I have to order it, .. IF I DO. how much is it.. Or how can i do it...
Thank you very MUCH..... CANT WAIT TO GGET MY NEW LAPTOP WITH THE MESSENGER BAG AND EVERYTHING!! jaajaj -
I believe there is a $15 option at the accessories section...
-
i have my fingers crossed
-
I also kept my screen at the 'base model"... they had no shortages of these I'm sure.
Interestingly enough, their status page still shows in production, but the tracking details with Purolator courier shows it's in transit... I would do the online chat thing on the Dell site to get a more accurate status
Good luck! -
Woot! Up to yesterday my orderstatus was still on stage 2 of 5 (preparing production)... So I called dell, and they told me they were already producing it. The estimated shipping date online was the 8.7! (August!) and I ordered on July 3rd!
Today I check the status and it says my laptop has been given to UPS (stage 5!)
I guess I am going to get my laptop next week after all! -
im probably going to order my 1520 with 2 weeks. the only thing im worried about is the deals expiring. right now [with free 2gb ram and 160gb hdd] i can get |
1.8ghz c2d
2gb ram
wsxga+ lcd
8600gt
160gb 7200 rpm hdd
dvdrw
bluetooth
all for1200 shipped with tax.
will i be able to get a very similar price for all of this in 2 weeks? also any guesses on when it would ship?
edit-this is also using the current 300 off coupon. -
it's very hit and miss. probably the same price but hard to say. in the long run laptop prices only go down, but that's talking in terms of months and i'm sure you don't want to wait months
-
well thats good to know, thanks.
-
I know this might be little off topic.. but do any of you know if the ps3 or wii controllers will work with our bluetooth on our laptops??? I doubt it myself but I am rather very curious if it works or not... have any of you tried??
-
I don't think the Wii controller is Bluetooth? Then again I havne't touched consoles since PS1.
-
^i always thought the wii-stick was IR.
but like i said, i haven't touched consoles since ps1 -
have anyone tried this... it'll be great if I can use the pad for my computer...
-
http://tech.lostinbluedom.com/2006/12/08/control-your-computer-with-your-wii-remote/
You can, sorta, pointing doesn't work, but tilting and the buttons do I believe.
GloStiX: The Wii remote uses an IR blaster ("sensor" bar) to determine its position in 3D space, and then using bluetooth it tells the Wii the input. -
thanks dragoneye, but have you tried the ps3 controller also?
-
EDIT: NVM, I just realized you weren't asking HOW it worked, but if it worked on a PC. Ignore what I just said >_> -
I ordered my Dell 1520 online on July 17th and the websited stated my ship date is July 31st, I hope they stick to it. I personally have never had a problem with Dell, having own several Dell's in the past. The 1520 is hands down a great notebook with above specs for it price range, best bang for the buck out there! Here are my specs:
-Intel® Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
-2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
-High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1680x1050)
-256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT
-160G 7200RPM SATA HDD
-Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
-CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
-Integrated Sound Blaster® AudigyHD Software Edition
-Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
-85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
-DellCare Value 3 year
-Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
-Alpine White color w/ 2.0M pixel Camera
-Windows Vista Premium
its just about loaded with every option from Dell, paid a little over $1800 with Teacher Discount!
I will post again once I receive mine. -
Man, oh man.
Mine is on it's way it supposedly shipped today, although I haven't got an email confirmation:confused2: , and is supposed to arive on the 25th.
I ordered mine on the 6th and was sheduled to ship Aug 2nd, but I guess someone with the same specs. cancelled their order. -
str8trippn, you ordered basically the exact same laptop as i did except mine's blue and i paid less with student discount
it's interesting though because i ordered mine on the 19th and the estimated ship date is 8/7. oh well.
-
jak2:
I don't own a PS3 and I haven't looked into it so i have no idea if you can get the controller to work.
I do own a Wii, but I haven't tried using the controller on the computer either, I had just heard about the project, unfortunately I won't be able to try it either since my 1520 doesn't have bluetooth since it is an $80 addon in Canada.
If you really want to play games with a PS3 controller, why don't you just use a PS2 controller with an adapter for PC's? I don't see the PS3 motion sensing to be useful on the computer. -
-
So the sound solving problem it's to order this sound card: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=eep&cs=6007&sku=A1164635
which is the best on the market today for an extra $50 than the software edition.
I cancel my first order and reorder with the X-Fi XtremeMusic with Dolby 5.1 Express Card. -
-
On a regular sound card if you set the volume and wave sound on maximum levels you will hear a distortion noice which is not the case on a Creative sound card.
Second if you want to record something from a TV Tuner or other source, you will notice a big difference of quality between the integrated sound card and the creative.
If it's only a metter of settings and drivers why people should pay (in this example) $75 extra to buy an Creative X Fi sound blaster?
The reviews will shortly appear and the we will see the difference. -
