None known at this time, although some games may not run at the highest possible settings, but they will still run.

Hey guyz im planning on ordering a 1520 myself, i see some people bought the investment protection plan for 2 years. Is it really worth it? Its kinda pricey (300 dollars right? or was it 200 i forget). I never had a laptop b4 do they break down on you or anything?

Well I am in Germany, but I was told that with the delivered Vista-Recovery-CD you can also reinstall a fresh system if you want to.

Can anybody tell me which mouse I should order? Is bluetooth OK for gaming? Or better a wireless USB?

This were two items I noticed in the order for the config I had choosen...

So what do they actually mean ?

And somewhere I had read that DELL does not bundle a Recovery DVD along with the laptop and they just merely have a recovery partition which must be booted into while starting the system to make a System Recovery....

I charged my (fathers) credit card (shame on me^^).

btw i checked the status page and it says that the package has been handed over to UPS yesterday evening (26th) woohooooooo =P
the UPS status page estimates delivery on 31st which would be tuesday next week

any suggestions on how to survive the weekend and distracting me from "hardcore f5-ing" (refreshing) the forum for new pics? ^^

    Congrats Benutzername!
I ordered today... because I had canceled my first order. So for you it took 18 days to get it. That would make my delivery date around the 14th of August. Rough enough to have it for my business trip on the 20th... well we'll see!

My 1520 is still in the build stage. I have a feeling its going to be delayed. If it is, Dell is going to get an earfull because I need this computer for college coming up very quick.

(too bad I got the weekend in the middle.. otherwise I would've had it in 5 days ! )

No flex at all for the lid or the keys. Now I'm so happy I've chosen the anti glare screen!! :D
No graininess at all, excellent brightness and by the way.. 1280x800 is already making all the icons on the taskbar too small! I wouldn't ever need a WXGA+ because even in the newest games, one cannot play on more than WXGA with still decent FPS.

7 CDs/DVDs ?! now this is what I call total support my friends. I have a separate CD even for the Audigy card!

I deactivated Vista theme and put the classic one. I maxed out the performance and turned off all the visual and appearance features so now my Vista looks like an XP and the experience score is 1.0 !!!
but this is how I will get the greatest 3DMark scores soon ! ;)

But I still have few matters to solve:

    1. cannot install XP because I have no floppy drive so I can install the SATA drivers, and it's not accepting either another CD or USB flash for it.. I think I'm going with Ubuntu thou...
    2. for the webcam you can either use the Dell drivers or the Creative ones, but i cannot use the built-in microphones yet! and there are no drivers for them. they should be somehow automatically installed by Vista!
    3. i cannot install the latest Nvidia Forceware only the Dell version from the DVD. It says that my card is not supported by the driver package ?! :( (any of you guys have the exact version # so I can google it rather than take it from Nvidia?)
    4. thinking of buying 1Gb of Robson but I'm not sure about the performance gain! is it worth buying it? when will the Robson help in fact? in Vista starting, apps running or gaming or all ?

    Any ideas ? :)

Did anyone's system show a DVD +/- RW (non-dual layer) drive during ordering but still ship with a dual-layer drive? I am getting conflicting information on whether Dell has temporarily stopped including DL as an option to encourage people to get Blu-Ray or whether they just don't market the DL drives as DL anymore.

On 27th June i ordered my Vostro 1500 and "DL" or "DualLayer" is nowhere mentioned. So does this mean this drive doesn't burn duallayer media? That would really suck, even my brothers 2 year old hp consumer notebook burns dl media

People told about great performance gain with Robson in real-life use, but benchmarks could never show that.

It should boost up load speeds like windows and application startup.

For just about 40 bucks it's definitely worth it. This is my opinion.

The DL issue is the only thing keeping me from ordering today. I've spoken with a bunch of people at Dell, including tech support, sales, and customer care, and no one seems to know for sure.

Can someone verify once they receive the system? It would have to be an order made in the past week or two, because that's when the DL description disappeared. Check your receipt/order summary.

Where did you get that from? I was told by a tech that 313-5197 is not a DL drive. This is what my order review summary is showing. For some reason there are two SKUs.

if you got a drive with DVD burning capabilities it should have dual layer capabilities. I have not seen a dvd burner on dells site that does not offer dual layer for the new inspirons or vostros

Could someone give me an idea of how well it'll run oblivion, with a t7500, 2 gigs of ram, and a 8600gt @ 1280 x 800 or 1440 x 900? Could i get it to run on high settings(with grass at low or med. and no AA or AF) and still get high 40fps?

It's hard to say actually...mine is in boxing stage for the 2nd day today and I ordered 7/13. If you get someone's cancelled order it could be within a week but I wouldn't count on it. There are delays for different parts so it really depends on how you configure it. I guess plan on 3 weeks and be glad if it's sooner and don't be too suprised if it's a lot later than that.

Jet Black ! I wanted it the most business look like possible

Good point Maati. Thanks for solving my #4 issue. I shall follow your logic! ;)

Yes it will run well. You can squeeze around 35 FPS but only on WXGA and with medium settings.

which leads me to my point #3 issue. I solved it! you have to download the modded INF file for that specific version of ForceWare you want to install and then replace it in the installation folder. The guys from LaptopVideo2Go taught me how to do it! :D

run 4 tests with 4 different driver versions. the highest score so far: 3340 :D
aiming for a little over 3500 but I guess I will only get it under XP which leads me to...

The problem #2 was a mere setting change in Control Panel !
You can set which microphones to be default: mic Line In/mic array
I switched to array and everything is working great !

So I am left to solve issue #1 and I will be the most damn pleased proud Dell owner! :)
I will try to install XP on an external HDD and then I will be able to provide the SATA drivers from the internal HDD. It must work this way

Let me see, you won't need the 2,2 Core 2 Duo. Stick with the 2,0 or even lower one, the 1,8Ghz would also be absolutely sufficient.
As for the display: Do you prefer having more "space" on the desktop? Then i would suggest you to get the 1440x900 display.
And you won't probably need the 9 cell battery if you don't travel around. If it's on the desk most of the time, stick with teh 6 cell.

If you order black (or white or brown), you might receive it in 2 weeks. Some people have reported receiving their black inspiron within 5 business days. But if you want color, there's no guessing how long it'll be. I ordered a blue 1520 on 7/19 and estimated shipping date is 8/7. If it ships on time it'll be about 1 month from order to receiving.

Yeah i think it should run WoW maxed out or close to it. Its not a very graphically demanding game (as compared to F.E.A.R., FARCRY ect.)

Oh YEAH! I was in the same boat until they called me to tell me that my order is delayed until 8/28/07... Thinking about investing a few more $$$ into a macbook pro or a Toshiba X205. Hope this isn't for that stupid Midnight Blue cover... Jet Black wasn't even an option when I ordered mine.
