Sounds like everyones est ship date is august 28th. I don't know if i'm going to wait that long i might cancel. Plus if I wait that long and get delayed again, I will be in a bad situation since the 28th is already past the start date of my fall semester

I purchased mine online, although I don't think it will matter. I was told there is a severe shortage of the glass used for the lcd screen.

I did it over the phone and got it in exactly 5 business days! Got the best deal and shortest time. I think there is a problem with blue lids now, maybe with LoJacks ?!, and of course with the bigger LCDs.

How long does it usually take to ship in Canada?

I ordered my Inspiron 1520 along with a Belkin N1 Wireless Router last night. I got an e-mail confirming the orders along with estimated shipping dates. One of the orders is estimated to ship on the 10th of August and the other is estimated to ship on the 20th of August. I am guessing the notebook will be the one shipping on the 20th of August. I can't check for sure, however, because my Dell account online still isn't showing any order information.

Ya I didn't really buy that glass shortage crap either. It took three people to tell me what was going on. Also a dell rep left me a message while I was at work to tell my my laptop has already shipped. 45 minutes later a different rep called me to tell me my order was delayed. I'm pretty sure they have no idea whats going on. I'm going to guess since its back to school season and their flooded with orders but they didn't plan accordingly.

I would say it depends on the environment your going to be using this laptop in. If your going to be using it at home constantly then it doesn't really matter. If your going to be using it at work, a more professional color (ie black) would be best. This is just my opinion but in the end its all up to you :)

I feel bad for all you guys lol. I ordered mine inspiron 1520 on Sun 29th July at like 9pm, and the delivery company called to arrange a delivery time 3 days later. It's coming between 9am and 1pm on Mon 6th August. That's 8 days after the order was places, and that INCLUDES shipping to Australia. It was in manufacture like the moment they receieved my payment. Check this info out I got from the AU Dell site.
    Order Received: 30th
    Work in Progress: 30th
    Manufacturing Build Complete: 31st
    Ship from Factory: 31st
    Arrive in Australia: 1st
    With Local Carrier: 1st
Delivered: (Delivery company called to arrange time on 6th.)

Why is the service from Australian Dell kicking ass? lol

OK, so if it's not really a glass shortage for displays, then enlighten us. What did you find out was really going on??

I can't get a straight answer from dell. One guy said they were low on the glass used for the screens. Another guy said they were low on the specific wsxga+ screens. Yesterday I was told by one dell cs rep that my computer shipped, and another told me that it was delayed until august 28th. My computer is somewhere in limbo land. I don't think anyone at dell has any idea of what the hell is going on, or maybe they do and there filling everyone full of crap. I have to grant them that this is a new inspiron so some shortages may be expected due to some new parts (different colors, ect.), but it shouldn't take a month and a half to build and send a computer.

I'm sorry if this is somewhat anti-climatic, but the reality is there is indeed a glass shortage for displays worldwide- for Dell as well as other makes. This is out of their span of control. Giving you false shipping notification, on the other hand, is in their span of control and is just plain sloppy.

I ordered a Dell Inspiron 1520 from Dell Canada last night, August 1, 2007. I received an e-mail telling me shipping is estimated for August 20, 2007. When I click the link from my e-mail, it shows me the product is in "Order Processing". When I go to my Dell account, it doesn't show any orders.

I just ordered a 1520 (with an 8600m GT, 2GB RAM, and 2.0GHz processor), and the Dell rep said that it should come within the next couple of weeks (*crosses fingers he is right*). Anyway, I am totally pumped about getting this notebook because it will be my first ever. It should work out really well for college.

Thanks for letting me know. I understand its not their fault that there is a shortage. However their CS is horrible. I was more upset that I couldn't get a straight answer. Also, I was upset about how they waited until the day of my original ship date to inform me that it was delayed by a month (I think they should of known this was coming and informed me a little sooner). Anyways thanks for letting me know this shortage is true.

I would get Jet Black, but only because I wouldn't want to wait for the colors to get in. I'm a student to, and I don't want my laptop to stand out around campus, more of a chance it will get stolen.

As of a week ago, there were no delays on some colors (brown, white, red, black). Now black is the only one without delay. If that goes on delay, then all computers will face a delay.

I ordered my 1520 over the phone and it got delayed. I think more than anything, dell has done a poor job of informing their customers. On their website my computer stills shows it will be shipped on the 2nd of August.
