Wow, looks like we have the same problem and pretty much the same motherboard. Mine's a K53 Asus. I made a thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/690598-need-help-finding-led-backlight-fuse-pics.html

Did you figure out what was wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd check the continuity of the 0 marked resistor in the middle of the LCD FPC connector, it could just be a logic-line link, or it could be a fuse. I'd also look at the black resistor on the left-hand side between the white plastic of the LCD-FPC connector and the grounding ring of the screw.

    From Italy, many thanks.
With your suggest I repair a my friend 1545 laptop.
I have done a soldering because the fuse I've bought was too big.

    hi guys,

I've seen the problem b4 and managed to fix it at a couple of inspiron 1545, you need a digital multimeter and to set it on diod ( when you touch the 2 paddles of the multimeter it beeps )
On the motherboard, near the lcd connector you will find a notation : F2 : 3a/32v , find the little rezistence on the motherboard marked with F2 and measure it with the multimeter, if it doesn't beep the resistance is broken and you need to replace it. If it beeps then it's good and most likely it's your chipset ( if you already changed the display and the cable connecting the display ). This usually happens at LED displays.

Here to confirm, the method works on an inspiron1525. soldering fuse F2 just to the bottom left of the display cable connector on the motherboard worked. Had no backlight, now it's working great. I just solderballed it untill I find a fuse that sort. Thank you very much.

This is why I prefer a Mac. My friend's 1545 had the same issue. She tried to replace the screen herself but she frayed the flex cable causing it to blow the fuse. She gave up and purchased a HP and I have had the Dell for over 6 months connected to my flat screen television. Thanks to you guys I was able to bridge the fuse with solder and now I have an extra lap top with a working led screen. You guys rock.:hi2:

I fixed this problem on the 1545 with the solderball solution. I didn't break the fuse just dropped an ignorant ball of solder on the top if it. Works well. Just wondering what the consequences on this might be if for example the screen gets dropped in the future?

Not sure if this is related, but I discovered that my LED panel would NOT turn on unless I disconnected the ExpressCard board from the motherboard. Don't know how it's related, but now my panel comes on and works normally.

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread but you never know.
I am having the exact same problem with a dell latitude.
No backlight, LCD visible with the aid of direct light, small spark jumps ni the lower right corner of the panel when turned on. It gives light for half a second before dimming.
Does this sound like the fuse issue?
Can anyone advice me on course of action on a Latitude E5500?
    Thanks

    Hi,

My problem is slightly different. Often when I open the notebook the display is very dim. If I wait a few seconds and then move the lid/screen, the backlight turns on and stays on no matter how much I continue to move the lid. For awhile I couldn't get the backlight to turn on at all no matter how much I moved the lid, so I set the notebook aside and bought a new one, thinking I'd try to repair it when I had time. When I went to use it again a couple months later, it worked fine on the first powerup, then went back to occasionally not working when I first open the lid but fine after moving it a few seconds later. I assume this is not the fuse problem because that would not be intermittent. So I'm thinking this is a cable issue. Thoughts?

I had this problem for the last 9 months and managing with external monitor, but wants to fix it .Thank you for the solution. I checked the fuse and it is open. So I got the fuse and soldering station and had 3X magnifier. I had great difficulty to solder it as the fuse is so small and fuse is getting stuck to soldering iron when solder is getting used. I am not sure how you guys able to do it. Can you guys guide me ?. How do you hold the Nano fuse in place while soldering ?. Do I need another person to hold the fuse delicately?. Is 3X is good enough magnifier. I was able to see it some difficulty. I appreciate any help in this regard.

Had the same problem. No soldering iron so used alluminum foil and scotch tape on top of fuse. Had to use magnifying glass to get it in right position but once i got the screen to light up and stay on i cut a piece of foam to go over the top so when keyboard is screwed on keeps presure on it. So far its working.
Thanks for all the info in this thread.

Thank you so much for the info I was searching for 6 months.

I have a Sony Vaio, could you please see my attachments and advise where this fuse is located?

Can you add an arrow please?

    Thanks a lot,

If you have an Inspiron 1545, some of the pictures posted earlier should match what you have.
What part of it don't you understand?

Hey guys, I had replace the backlight and the inverted board with no luck, until I read this thread and after placing a temp jumper over the fuse it worked again. But I still have a little issue. Now the backlight doesn't cover the whole screen, only the bottom part of the screen closer to the light shows a good reflection not the top part of the screen. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Could it be another fuse on the board ? Thanks

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 LCD CFFL

I have received a Dell Inspiron 1545 from someone with the the screen not working when I received it, I found out that the backlight is not working, I am currently checking the cables to make sure nothing is loose but judging from what people have been posting its something to do with a fuse, I am hoping that this is not the problem because I have no skills in soldering, I have also noticed that when I do shine a light on the screen it has a green tint to it so that make me think that the lcd is damaged or a loose cable. Does anyone have any advice? or any troubleshooting tips for me? and btw if I connect an external monitor it displays fine.
