Thanks for being so prompt. I tried both ways :
    - first, the HP trick : even after installing the driver, no wireless device appears in the device manager (or anywhere else), i.e. I can't install manually the driver using the *.inf file.
    - second, the remove/install again gigabit driver : no change
Do you know any other way?

    try this,
download the sp39243.exe from hp support, extract it,
then ask new hardware, when WXP ask for driver and bcmwl6.sys
browse to swsetup/sp39243 and rename bcmwl5.sys to bcmwl6.sys
then the wireless card is now working ...

my wireless card (dell 1397) on 1535 was not working until that...

Hey guys, sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it.

When I tried to install XP on my Studio it gave me the blue screen of death before setup could begin. I've read that this is because XP doesn't have the drivers needed to recognize the SATA drive, and the simple solution is to put the drivers on a floppy disk and press F6 during the beginning of setup to load these drivers. Well, Studio doesn't have a floppy drive, so another solution is to integrate the drivers onto a copy of the XP CD, which I could do if I could find the drivers.....so my question is does anyone know where I can find the drivers for my hard drive controller (I've got the Samsung hm320ji ATA for reference).

Sorry if I missed anything obvious...I'd really appreciate the help.

Hello. I believe that we all have asked for him help to m3d0r because it is the only one of this forum that has confirmed to that can install the Windows XP in the notebook Dell Studio, and believe also that we all are grateful for his help on having obtained the drivers. Nevertheless, I wanted to ask you, m3d0r, if you can share with us the procedure to obtain this change, without spreading too much not to become oppressed but defining adequately every point. For example, with my notebook XPS M1330 I had to format and particionar my notebook with Dell Media Direct's disc, later, install the Windows XP with SP3 and drivers SATA, and finally, already in Windows, finish the installation of the media Direct. In this case, the notebook have a partition called "Recovery" (which I believe it can be of utility if we do not obtain Vista's migration to XP), which not if we must delete it or not. Because of it I ask you, friend m3d0r, if you can illuminate us a bit more with regard to the procedure to obtain Vista's migration to XP.

    Hi All,

Thanks m3d0r for all of your help.

Earlier in this post it was mentioned to go into the BIOS and change the HD controller to ATA for XP. Which is better? Change it to ATA and run XP that way or leave it as SATA and install the SATA drivers for XP? I didn't think it would recognise the XP install disk in SATA.

Also, m3d0r, does it matter what order the drivers are installed in? Would you be kind enough to give us a quick outline?

    Some thing like:

    1. total backup/drive image

    2. low level format

    3. install XP

    4. install driver a

    5. install driver b.

etc. or should I just install them in the order you listed them on the post for rapidshare?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Regards,
    PepperHead

Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread, it's really useful

Can you tell me how to do that in the BIOS - I can only see an option to change the SATA mode. I can't see an option to make it ATA (so that I won't need a SCSI driver).

Before you put XP on one of these you need to go into the bios and turn off the flash caching and then change the harddrive from AHCP to ATA mode otherwise it'll just bluescreen.
Both of these changes are made in the onboard devices section.
This is really important if you're using Windows Deployment or another multi-rollout system.
Had this issue forst on the XPS when I tried to bulk deploy to them.

I also diabled Falsh Cache Module, and chose ATA under SATA Operation. After that installing and running XP were working fine. I also installed several drivers for xp. they were okay too. Then I follow the steps to run VistaBootPro. Everything seems alright until I reboot. After rebooting, I could not access XP and Vista. In XP, it ask for NTLDR, but I copied through Command prompt. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks a lot.

    Hey,

thanks for beiing so kind and share all your hints. My studio 1535 is nearly working perfect now with your hints and drivers for win xp. But there is one thing that doesen`t work. I cant install the dell quickset tool, because it`s written for vista. I tried different quickset applications for xp but they did not work either (different laptop-systems).

My problem is, that the "WIFI" indicator backlight lights all the time, no matter if the switch is on or off. Probably someone can help me, to solve this problem.

    Thx a lot.....

I tried posting this a couple of days ago, but it seems to have been lost.

Thanks m3d0r for all you help.

I got XP installed and if works great except for 2 things:

    1. I got the fingerprint driver installed, but cannot find the Digital Persona software to install to use it. The one that came my system says it cannot be install to the this pc (Apparently due to the XP OS.).

    2. I got the HDMI driver installed and the video works great, but there is no audio. Is there some setting I am missing?

Someone please help me...i have the studio 1535 with the ATI Radeon™
HD 3200 video. I have tried (M3dOr example below) the mobility modder for version 8.6 but it is not working for me...Could some please guide me through the process a little bit detailed to install the catalyst V8.6. Everything else worked for me going to windows XP...Thanks Royals

I modded the Original ATI Catalyst Driverpackage for Desktop cards with the driverheaven mobility modder. But be careful: The newest version that works with the mobility modder is Catalyst 8.6. Catalyst 8.7 can't be modded with the (current) mobility modder. With this modded driver the Device is correctly recognized as HD 3450. AMD / ATI locks the installation of mobility devices by default but the mobility modder removes this lock.

Need Help with the Fingerprint Scanner.

I got the driver installed for it OK and the Device Mgr says it is working properly, but when I installed the Embassy Trust Suite software for XP, it tells me the TPM is Not enabled and to enable it by going into the Bios/Security/TPM Security and 'enabling' it. When I go to the Bios/Secuity, there is NO TPM Security section to go into.

What am I doing wrong or missing?

Has anyone else been able to get the FP scanner to work with XP on their studio 15? If so, what driver did you use and what software?

I really would like to get this working. This is driving me nuts.

    Thanks for any help,
    PepperHead

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some help with the studio xp drivers. I found most of replies here very helpful, but I still have the same problem as you, PepperHead. I've been looking for the fingerprint software and driver for days, but still haven't found anything that really works. Can anybody help me? I'm getting really desperate... Thanks

The link above will take you right to the NIC driver you need. I installed it yesterday, works perfectly.

Has anyone been able to get the IR working with XP? I can't seem to get it working, although the correct device is listed in Device Manager. Oh, and has anyone found a version of Quickset that will install?

Thanks to the suggestions of m3d0r I managed to setup XP 32 on my Studio 1735 and it's running without any problems. I installed the fingerprint reader but haven't gotten around to actually setting it up and using it, so aside from that, I've been doing video editing and 2D/3D animation withouth a glitch :D

    Thanks again!

The best way to do your multiboot with XP and Vista is to do a clean install. Format your hard drive into 2 or more partions. Format in NTFS (quick) Vista is very bloaty, so give it plenty of room. you can get away with 2-gb for XP. Install XP first. When you have completed, insert your vista disk whilst XP is still running. (Do not choose upgrade), choose custom install, then select the clean drive to install. When this process has completed you will have a boatloader stating an older version of windows (XP) and vista. You will not get the NTDLR error with this method. good luck . There is aaan excelletn walk thru on u tube where a guy triple boots xp, vista an ubuntu.

    Good luck.
    .......

I'm at the process of getting the wlan 1397 fix attempt. Apart from that XP just tops vista.

    Hi All,
Well.....I spent most of the weekend trying to get a stable XP Pro install on my roomate Lisa's Studio 1735. I have tried all of the drivers listed on driver.zol.com and from m3d0r's list of drivers available on rapidshare.com listed earlier in this thread.

Here is what I have found:

    1) There is apparently no working XP driver for the ITE consumer IR. The driver on both zol.com and the one provided by m3d0r on rapidshare are both Vista only. The driver will appear to load and XP will report that it is working properly but the IR receiver is not working. (Has anyone had any luck getting this to work under XP...have you actually tested your IR ?)

    2) There is no working XP compatible Quickset for the 1735. This means no dedicated MediaCenter button or on-screen volume etc indicators.

    3) Power Management was very flakey under XP. The unit would go to sleep but would wake back up within 20-30 seconds. When I initially installed the Intel chipset driver I noticed that laptop power management options were not appearing (close lid options etc) After installing a few more drivers (Card Reader, Video) the options suddenly appeared. Weird.

The system has been unstable no matter how many times I wiped the disk and performed a clean install of XP Pro (SP2 of course) and no matter what order I installed drivers (typically chipset, video, audio...etc)

Does ANYONE have a bona fide fully functional Studio 1735 running XP Pro (all major system functions tested, power management consistenly working etc) If so...please tell me what drivers you used and in what order you installed them.

I tried re-installing Vista last night and of course the ITE CIR and Quickset are both working properly.
I still don't want to give up on an XP install.

    Thanks in Advance
    Mark

Don't use the Dell provided driver. Let XP (SP2 only) search and find it's own driver. The Microsoft driver works much better and has greater compatabilty.

Once the Microsoft Bluetoth driver is loaded, edit c:\windows\inf\bth.inf
Look up the device ID of your Bluetooth interface in device manager and add it to the "device section" of bth.inf
This will make your Bluetooth interface a "trusted" interface by Microsoft and will allow greater functionality.

    Thanks Greorio,
I'll take a look at that thread again.

Do you have all your peripherals and system software functioning under XP pro ? I'm guessing except IR and Quickset are working ?

I may have figured out the power management problem last night. It seems XP was unbeknownst to me providing a Microsoft driver for the webcam, and when the Creative webcam management software got loaded it seemed to cause problems with the Windows driver. Reinstalling the Creative driver seemed to fix that.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Does anyone has the Integrated microphone XP driver for Studio 1735?

I was playing round today for the first time with the 32bit test/diagnostic utility CD-ROM that came with my studio 1735 and apparently, I have an integrated microhpone :D . During the test (booting from this CD), It works fine, but once I boot to Windows XP, I don't see it listed anywhere on the device manager, sound mixer or vide/audio devices.

Since this microphone is not listed on the specs on any of my emails I got from Dell or on the Dell.com.mx site, I hadn't even paid attention to that.

In the diagnostic utility is listed as "Intel ICH8 HD Audio with 92HD73C".
I am downloading dave@wickmanstudio's driver pack from his tutorial page to try that next. I've tried several other drivers but no luck so far, so if anybody has any suggestions for installing this device, please let me know.

This made everything much easier and the drivers here worked perfectly. oh btw how do i use the IR device?

Hey I don't know much about computers but I am interested in downgrading to XP from Vista on my Studio 15. What is the difference between SATA and ATA?

Brilliant thread, I bought a Studio 15 recently and thought id give Vista a go. Had enough of it within one day, looked really nice, but had software install issues, it felt sluggish, managed to get XP installed and its sooo much faster, ive never had a problem with XP before anyway, so the upgrade to Vista isnt an upgrade for me, but anyway..

Ive got everything working, apart from the software for the fingerprint system. The driver even isntalled from the original drivers cd (actually a few seem to work), but the software obviously wont install,

Has anyone managed to find an xp working digitalpersona personal V3? Its a nice feature the fingerprint system and I would love to get it working again. Or maybe theres some other software which works.

Thanks all for doing the legwork. Got my Studio 15 running XP and dualbooting.
My Studio 1535 seems to have an eSATA port (on the left side above the USB port). Has anyone been able to get this working in XP or Vista? Even prior to reinstalling the OS VISTA did not see this device either - no drivers and not shown in BIOS. Any clues?

Hi m3d0r. I also have a Dell Studio 1535 and I have to install XP on it. I managed to find almost all strictly necessary drivers, except one thing: ethernet network adapter. The one you uploaded on Rapidshare (and some other driver I found) works just fine until I enter BIOS just to browse it. After I reboot windows the connection disappears and when I want to create a new connection, the PPoE option appears inactive. I reinstalled the driver and it does not work; in order to have internet on my laptop I have to reinstall windows and NEVER enter BIOS again!...
The BIOS is A03 version and is the one that came with the notebook.
I wondered if you have an explanation for this and a reasonable solution...
Does anybody else have this problem? Help me please. :)

I also did not managed to find a working driver for High Definition Audio Bus... :(

I understand the anti-Vista sentiment, but it seems to run like a dream on this notebook with all the updated drivers and patches. You can change the start menu / control panel, etc back to classic versions if you don't like the new ones (I still prefer the classic control panel myself.) I haven't found an incompatible piece of software yet, although I know they are still out there...but that keeps dwindling. I even got my regular media center remote working on it by changing the IR transceiver to the generic driver.
