Thanks gryf, didnt work though.
Im not sure there are any driver to mod.
I am using a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series but when i go to install the driver i get the same errors as dimen "the ATI drivers installed are not for your hardware, and is not functioning properly, please install the right drivers"
I think its because the laptop shipped with vista and i changed it to xp and i dont think they make drivers for xp..

for fingerprint reader take a look at "DigitalPersona Personal Fingerprint Software Update" thread in notebookreview forums, this helped with my Studio 1535.
Is internal micophone working in Your Studio? If so, how did You enabled it? -
I have not found any working fingerprint software for Studio 1535 under Win XP. Digital Persona Pro works only on Vista. Some other software theoretically supports the AES2810 fingerprint scanner but does not work in Studio 1535. So, I have a working XP driver for fingerprint reader but it is absolutely useless. Any solution for this problem? (Digital Persona Pro XP version has not been ready yet.)
Sry for my English. -
I'm *much* more interested in getting the IR port working, so my remote will work -
AFAIK, ITE has never written an IR driver for any OS other than VISTA -
I registered here just to post in this topic as I haven't found anyone with my exact problem. Perhaps one of the fine folks here could help me out?
Here's my problem: I tried to talk to a friend on Skype using an external headset microphone which I have tested and used fine on another computer. However, when I tried to use it on my Studio 15 in XP, my friend could barely hear me and it was way too quiet. Some people online said they fixed similar problems by checking the "advanced options" choice from the volume control menu, but I got no luck there; it was greyed out.
Furthermore, I searched the IDT Audio Control Panel high and low looking for some sort of mic boost or gain but it turned up empty. Has anyone got any solutions for this? An updated audio driver perhaps? I'd really like to get this working soon as this is important to me. I pretty much crossposted this from that tutorial linked earlier at wickman studios, so I could get double the help (hopefully)! Thanks a lot! -
You just download the xp drivers from the ati site here. (Catalyst Software Suite)
Then you download the mobility modder.
When you downloaded those 2 files, you read the Installation step by step guide here right under the big red download button..
After you've gone through al this, the ati drivers are modified and you can simply install them on your xp studio 15!
It worked for me so it will also work for you -
Some Studios (like mine) don't even have ATI drivers. I just have basic integrated Intel X3100. Try searching the Intel website for your chipset graphics card...it worked for me and now I've got full resolution, video, etc.
-
regarding all the people with the sound problem...
it's something to do with the audio software that comes with the IDT chip. if you dont install the special software, your mic will not work.
and afaik, the SOFTWARE only works with Vista... hence you're screwed in XP.
I tried the mic in XP and it either didnt work or baaaaarely audible. once you load the software (in Vista), you can enable mic boosts, etc etc.
But the mic only really works in Vista. Even USB2 headsets, they refused to work in XP, no mic volume.
Since we use VOIP at work, i was thus "forced" onto Vista.... meh. -

Hi guys, i read all the pages on this forum and searched some more places out there, but i cant seem to find how exactly to install xp on my studio 15 without disabling the ahci. there was one comment mentioning that i need to integrate SATA drivers to my xp install cd, which i tried, but it freezes at the "inspecting hardware config" screen. i am not too sure which drivers i need to integrate still. i downloaded these on dell site but they were meant for vista, is this stll ok ? maybe i screwed up in the integration process ?
Is there anyone that can show us how this is done exactly. that would greatly help. -
You *can* install XP without disabling the AHCI, but there's a trick to it...
You have to have a disc with the XP AHCI drivers, and when the Windows install gives you the option to install 3rd party SCSI drivers or other HDD drivers, you have to hit the appropriate key (F6?) and insert the disc with the drivers. Otherwise, you can "slipstream" the drivers into a Windows XP installation by making your own new install disc image.
Instructions on doing that can be found here: club.cdfreaks.com/f3/slipstream-device-drivers-into-windows-xp-pro-104962 (it won't let me insert it as a URL, so you'll have to copy and paste into your browser's address bar).

Thanks, i tried before to slipstream into my installation cd but i bet i added the wrong drivers cause its froze at the "inspecting hardware config" screen. is there anyway i could have a link to those drivers ? its giving a hard time to find these.
I tried the link you posted in red but i get page not found. i tried to add w_w_w. and h_t_t_p://w_w_w and then pasting the rest of the adress but it didnt work. i would need to see this page cause its seems that my answer lies there
Edit : ah ok i got the the page you suggested, cheers ! but i would really appreciate a link for the drivers if its not too much of a problem. -
your best bet for a link to the drivers would be to search Google for them... that's what any of us would have to do.
As an aside, my Studio 17 runs 25% - 35% faster using XP Pro SP3 than it did when running Vista, and I have AHCI turned off... you may just be better server to turn it off. -
yeah i grinded google like a mad man
but i am not too sure what is good for the dell studio 15, i get these results about intel advanced host controller driver for SATA or ACER but i have not a clue if this will be what i need for the dell studio 15.
i guess i could go for ATA but i just though its a shame not to use AHCI since it is available on this comp and said to be better. -
hi, thanks to this thread i have managed to get almost everything working on my studio 15.
only three small things remain;
the network adapter has an ! in device manager (not the wirless thats fine).
there is one unknown device (not fingerprint, not memory stick dunno?)
audio doesnt work on hdmi out (biggest issue for me)
anyone have similar problems and found a solution please post!

Best of luck! -
Does anyone else find that the sound for XP isn't as good as it is for Vista (even when speakers are plugged in)?
I know that at least one person (see post 127) who has reported it. I know a lot of people have complained about not having the microphone working, but I would have expected more comments about it - unless people are happy with it.
I notice that the control panel is different between the two OS's - I've posted screenshots here for anyone who is interested... I've got a Studio 1537 if that makes a difference.Attached Files:

i just followed the instructions on the wickman studios website and i have xp running...when i scroll down on a website its not a smooth scroll, hard to explain, but if anyone else has experienced it and fixed it, please let me know what to do. everything else seems fine.
-
nvm i fixed it...i would recommend the instructions found at http://wickmanstudios.com/content/view/17/29/
I don't know much about computers and that guide worked like a charm for me. -
I still have a problem with my graphics card, I have installed drivers using catalyst, but when I check my settings it says the card is 512mb(problem)?
Thats not the real issue, just saying that if as info, the issue is:
I play games on my studio 15, WoW and CS, the thing is, whenever there is some big graphic thing, ESPECIALLY foggy stuff in the game, i get incredible lag, like everything is delayed.
For example, the SMOKE in CS makes me lag brutally and have 2 sec delay on everything I do. I mean the smoke on CS my computer from 5 years ago with 128mb graphic card doesnt lag in, and also this problem wasnt in vista, so there's something im missing in XP.
Its only this messing my gaming up, is there anything I am missing? except for that i have lots more FPS etc because of XP. -
Dimen:
512mb GPU RAM: The Radeon HD3450, like all current GPU, use Turbocache/Hypermemory. The card carries 256mb of dedicated RAM and borrows another 256mb from the system RAM when under XP. Under Vista, it dynamically borrows more or less depending on the need. (Under XP, it's fixed to borrow only 256mb)
Foggy lag: I dont know for sure, but I believe it's how the Radeon HD3450 handles particles-not very well. I play few games and they run fine when I shut off/turn down the particle effects. -
Has anybody had any luck getting HDMI Audio working? I've installed all the drivers, but I can't get HDMI flowing. I've got the AMD 3450 card.
-
-
I can't really speak for the HD 3450, but I have a Studio 17 (it has the HD 3650) and the 3DMark score in XP was 30% higher than in Vista. Gaming isn't particularly an issue. I play Left 4 Dead every weekend on it. Runs like a top.

Anyone else having problems with the SD card reader?
Everytime i plug in an SD card the system Blue Screen's on me. This is running XP. So far iv'e tried these 2 versions of drivers..
v3.54.05
and
v3.51.01
one thing, During trying different drivers I once plugged in my SD card while no drivers were installed, the system still BlueScreened on me.
The first thing I did when getting the system was wipe-off Vista. I dont know if this Ricoh card reader works or not in Vista, but im starting to wonder if I have some sort of hardware problem. -
I haven't had any trouble with the card reader... maybe reload Vista and see if the card reader still gives an error? Sounds like it might be bad hardware...
-
I'm having R188094.exe as my driver from the dell site. That's version v3.54.05 which you are referring to. I have no problem on my machine using that driver so I could be possible it's bad hardware..

Why SHOULD Dell support an obsolete operating system?
Should they support DOS and CP/M as well?
How about Windows 3.1?
I undersrtand what you mean..but look at it from their point of view.
They rely on different manufacturers for their parts. Like the IR port.
The maker only made Vista drivers. And Vista is the current
OS support by Microsoft. If Dell spends time trying to make sure
each component is compatible with every operating system known
to man, you would have paid much MUCH more for your system.
Vista is what they are selling. Vista is what they are supporting.
They have taken (or should have taken) lengths to make sure when
you open the box all the hardware works with Vista.
Now...some of the hardware MIGHT work with XP. Someone might
write a hack to get a driver to work with XP. But that is not,
and should not be, Dell's concern.
It works like it was designed. -
I have given up on Windows XP 64 bit.
There are too many drivers I cannot find.
And from what I have read the IR port just won't work with XP
and I won't leave the system that way.
Of course, I don't blame Dell for this...it is what it is.
I am going back to Vista Ultimate.
Thank you Acronis! -
I read thru all 19 pages on this thread and no one has mentioned about the yellow exclamation mark on the "1394 Net Adapter" (i.e. firewire) and the one Unknown Device (might be audio related?). Are both automatically installed during the XP installation? I've been looking and installing all sorts of drivers and I both is still nonfunctioning. Any help on either or both is greatly appreciated!

I'm not seeing these issues. Literally the only issue I have is that the HD audio "pops" occasionally, and the IR port won't work.
Everything else is working great, on my system. Any idea what the "unknow device" might be? -
Managed to get my 1737 working perfectly on xp thanks to this thread

Hello, i have xp installed on my studio. Everything is working just fine, except the audio driver...brrrr its horrible
Already downloaded a dozen of drivers, but only one its for xp and 1535 studio - idt audio.
Idt audio suckss, my laptop internal speakers are very quiet as well as my 5.1 logitechsI have no subwoofer working and very bad sound quality. Pls help me, i need decent audio driver for xp !!!
-
Phantasm -
I don't think that the Studio series *has* a subwoofer... at least, when I pulled the bottom case, I didn't see anything that resembled one.
Yeah, the IDT driver for XP doesn't allow for much audio boost, but then, IIRC, even in reviews of stock Vista-installed units, they said the speakers were nothing to write home about, that they basically sounded tinny, and were not very loud. -

Here, I've uploaded all the drivers for people's convenience. Also, I've put a readme for driver and mobility modder for the folks with the Ati HD 3450 like myself. Here's the link, it has every driver you need. http://www.filedropper.com/dellstudio15windowsxpdrivers

Just takes me to the home page on filedropper.
I want to load XP on my new 1537 and these would be fantastic.
Thanks -
Ya definitely haven't been back on here in a while, but I do have my driver package up and it has been referred to before - http://wickmanstudios.com/content/view/17/29/
I have also received an email that said that these IDT Audio drivers work, but I have not had a chance to test them out, any feedback would be great

Hi all,
This thread has been very helpful in getting my Dell Studio 1737 to load with XP properly and I am so nearly there.
I have everything working apart form the dreaded IEEE 1394 firewire interface. Have the exclamation mark in Device Manager and have tried some of the sugegsted fixes like loading the Vista drivers etc. but to no avail.
To those of you who have this device working OK can you tell me what driver files it has loaded in Device Manager and their version.
Cheers. -
WOW, it has been 1 entire year and I have come back to this thread after I started it 1 year ago. 20 PAGES!!!
Well all I can say is that I am buying the Studio 1555 today so if you can help me set it up with Windows XP that would be great. Already tons of info on this thread since last year. I am so glad I started this thread!!
-
Dell says Studio laptops are not compatible with XP pro.
If I want windows XP professional then I should go for Dell business versions Laptops such as Vostro !!!
I placed an order for Dell Vostro 1520.
Any way thanks for this thread.

Hi everybody,
This thread was very useful for installing xp on my studio 1735, aside from some issues which were fixed later by searching for information and trial and error, everything is working ok with xp.
For me one of the big issues was that I couldn't make the display fill the 1920x1200 screen if I lowered my resolution (mostly for games). Even with various versions of the ATI driver modified with the mobility modder.
Finally found a solution and it has been working ok so far, so here it is in case someone is running into the same problem:
1- I uninstalled all ati software (drivers, control center, etc).
2- I installed this driver: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
I reuploaded the driver but it was one (if not the first) XP video driver for the studio series. It was posted in this thread when it was started. The name of the EXE file is: "P108617.EXE".
3- I installed Ati Tray Tools: ATI Tray Tools. This software is not required to fill the screen but it's a replacement for catalyst control center since CCC won't install using this driver.
That's it.
I noticed that everytime I finished installing xp (or when I tried windows 7) I didn't have the problem with my display filling up with a lower resolution with the default display driver windows installed. The problem was once I installed the ati driver (modified with mobility modder). So this was one of those "trial and error" attempts I mentioned.
Once you get use to using ATI tray tools instead of catalyst control center you're set. So far I've tried it with Command&Conquer Red Alert 3 and Transformers-War for Cybertron.
I've been playing C&C at 1440x900 in full screen with no problems.
I had to go down to 1280x720 with the Transformers game to balance the speed/visuals to my taste. Transformers has frozen up a couple of times but I don't know if it's the game itself (I've read it locks up even in consoles) or not.
I use the Game Profile Manager from ATI tray tools to tweak the settings per game. It's quite easy so I recommend you take some time to learn to use it.
Hope somebody benefits from this and thank you to all the people who helped me and others to get xp on my machine! -
Someone plz temme one thing.. i was browsing fr the drivers on DELL Website and on selecting my model, i got a compelte list of drivers available, alongwith the choice of OS. when i selected XP, i got the same list for XP. isnt this wat everyone of us out here had been looking for? then why al this trouble? Plz explain..
