These 2 images posted by chuck232 demonstrate the difference in thickness most effectively of any other pics that I've seen. The top-to-bottom height of the ethernet port measures about the same size as the width of the CCFL, whereas it is significantly thicker than the LED display in the 2nd image.
This royally sucks for Cliegal though.
-
She ordered a different thing, the quote is from the Dell tech support site listing components for the actual shipped computer, not the ordered one.
-
Isn't the photo on the left tilemans M1330? Looks like he has an LCD too.
-
AU OPTRONICS LCD parts really suck...belive me (LED or noLED)
-
No, I pulled that picture from the product launch photos I believe.
-
I agree completely. Anyone that thinks there will be very little difference between the LED & CCFL thickness will be mistaken.
The pic on the left looks like a brick in comparison to the right. -
To answer the order questions - I originally ordered the LCD then on July 5th changed the order to LED. The rep left the original part number on the order and added the LED so both actually appear on my order. Of course they assembled it with the LCD screen.
I'm still on the phone with Dell and it looks like I'll be getting and advance exchange.
FYI - for anyone who has ordered the LCD screen, it's fantastic. If I had not made the change and paid for it, I'd be very happy with this laptop. -
suck in what way?
-
Cheapest thing around
cheap as cips
-
700m/710m had AU Optronics, and it was considered one of the best dell laptop screens ever...
-
Uh no. Traditionally, CMO (Chi Mei Optronics) is a lower tier player than AUO.
-
Cheap is cheap, but does that make it bad?
-
I'm interested to see what Titleman's service tag online says.
-
well dell never had too good notebook screens
-
it's posted in the longest thread on 1330
-
indeed.
Very hard to tell for 100% sure on the photos. Certainly looks like it could be the LED. -
I think he posted his service tag output on the other thread.. seems like it says LED with 0.3 M camera
-
True, but who did? all laptop screens, in fact, all LCD screens are far from perfect (bleeding, dead/stuck pixels, bad blacks etc).
-
Yea, I was just looking at Titleman's photo with his m1330 on its side and it does look slimmer than the CCFL's we've seen. I think it probably is an LED.
-
I went with the CCFL (or as many say, the LCD) so I'm glad you found it a good screen. Will be interesting to see what you think of the LED in comparison when you get it.
-
Sorry to make an issue of it all Cliegal but was a bit concerned something wasn't quite right! Dont forget to hit my reputation button if i helped
-
Cliegal, youre such a good sport about this and I really hope Dell steps up and takes care of you on this and offers extra compensation for thier mistake. Most of us would be extremely dissapointed and there would be alot of harsh words for Dell on here. I admire your attitude.
For those who do get upset: remember its out of your control. Its up to Dell to replace it. The only control you have is to ship it back and cancel for a refund. Everything else is up to Dell like replacement time, compensation, etc. Try not to get to upset over something that you cannot control directly. Im just sharing this because I know there is alot of anticipation here among us, and no need to sacrifice our health and well being over it. -
funny thing is,
Dells one is closer so should look bigger!
Makes the point even more clear,
Did he def get an led one, or have they shoved the led one in an lcd case? -
well, i guess it helped you get your lappy early!
and NOW, you get to keep it till dell sends you a whole new one anyway, right?
-
It would'be funny if the 1330 arrived with 2 screens (one as a separate backup)
-
Using chucks CCFL pic link maybe a clearer idea of the difference is shown below. Obviuosly using the usb port as a guide.
-
so LED lid is about as deep as the USB port is high?
-
Seems people keep making this mistake - so here is another reminder.
All the displays are LCD. Either
LCD with LED backlight
or
LCD with CCFL backlight.
tilemans service tag shows the LED backlit display:
-
yes it would seem that way.
-
Umm, we know that lol
-
that stinks... i hope mine ships with the LED and that its as thin as the pic on Dell.com and nbr.
-
Doesn't say anywhere that it's LED backlit tho
and as for the terms, we call them LED vs LCD for convenience, not everyone likes to type out the whole thing each time...
-
That's my point - call it LED vs CCFL for convenience.
"LCD" just confuses. -
It says it's an LED further down.
1 GX081 ASSEMBLY, CABLE, COAXIAL, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, LIGHT EMITTING DIODE, M1330 -
Check your private messages Cliegal
-
djrm - show us the pictures from Tileman please...
-
What is dell doing to fix the problem ? I need to check my order confirm again and see what I got
-
ive received some pics from tileman of his M1330 with a good side view to find out for sure if he's got an LED.
Here are the results, this time using the engadget pic (which is the same LED thickness as dells pic)
PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THIS IS NOT SCIENTIFIC! JUST OBSERVATION -
Well...what can i say
I think we are dell's marketing victims allright
)

Here is another picture of mine.

Ok that's the best shot so far. Now that looks like a CCFL screen. So basically it looks like both shipped laptops might not be LED screens! So we are all screwed again, and tileman and Cleigal are double screwed.
-
HOLD ON, i think i see whats going on now.
Cliegal's pics clear it up!!!!
Tilemans is LED. Just need one more photo from him to clear it up -
At least they got something to play with, where all of us got zit.
-
why cant you just look at the camera, since the led screen cant have the 2.0 mp camer... if its .3mp then its led, if its 2.0mp then its non-led?
-
dude your getting scamed by dell
There has got to be an easy way to tell the 2 screens apart. -
Cliegal - can you post a picture from the front PLEASE
...would appreciate
-
Exactly! that's the key. Test your camera!
-
The service tag for Tileman (sp?) says 1 GX081 ASSEMBLY, CABLE, COAXIAL, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, LIGHT EMITTING DIODE, M1330
It's almost certainly an LED display. -
The camera doesn't give me any specs.
Is Cliegal's screen an LED??????
