These 2 images posted by chuck232 demonstrate the difference in thickness most effectively of any other pics that I've seen. The top-to-bottom height of the ethernet port measures about the same size as the width of the CCFL, whereas it is significantly thicker than the LED display in the 2nd image.

This royally sucks for Cliegal though.

She ordered a different thing, the quote is from the Dell tech support site listing components for the actual shipped computer, not the ordered one.

I agree completely. Anyone that thinks there will be very little difference between the LED & CCFL thickness will be mistaken.

The pic on the left looks like a brick in comparison to the right.

To answer the order questions - I originally ordered the LCD then on July 5th changed the order to LED. The rep left the original part number on the order and added the LED so both actually appear on my order. Of course they assembled it with the LCD screen. :(

I'm still on the phone with Dell and it looks like I'll be getting and advance exchange.

FYI - for anyone who has ordered the LCD screen, it's fantastic. If I had not made the change and paid for it, I'd be very happy with this laptop.

700m/710m had AU Optronics, and it was considered one of the best dell laptop screens ever...

Uh no. Traditionally, CMO (Chi Mei Optronics) is a lower tier player than AUO.

    indeed.

Very hard to tell for 100% sure on the photos. Certainly looks like it could be the LED.

True, but who did? all laptop screens, in fact, all LCD screens are far from perfect (bleeding, dead/stuck pixels, bad blacks etc).

Yea, I was just looking at Titleman's photo with his m1330 on its side and it does look slimmer than the CCFL's we've seen. I think it probably is an LED.

I went with the CCFL (or as many say, the LCD) so I'm glad you found it a good screen. Will be interesting to see what you think of the LED in comparison when you get it.

Cliegal, youre such a good sport about this and I really hope Dell steps up and takes care of you on this and offers extra compensation for thier mistake. Most of us would be extremely dissapointed and there would be alot of harsh words for Dell on here. I admire your attitude.

For those who do get upset: remember its out of your control. Its up to Dell to replace it. The only control you have is to ship it back and cancel for a refund. Everything else is up to Dell like replacement time, compensation, etc. Try not to get to upset over something that you cannot control directly. Im just sharing this because I know there is alot of anticipation here among us, and no need to sacrifice our health and well being over it.

    funny thing is,
Dells one is closer so should look bigger!
Makes the point even more clear,
Did he def get an led one, or have they shoved the led one in an lcd case?

Seems people keep making this mistake - so here is another reminder.
All the displays are LCD. Either
    LCD with LED backlight
    or
    LCD with CCFL backlight.

tilemans service tag shows the LED backlit display:

Doesn't say anywhere that it's LED backlit tho :) and as for the terms, we call them LED vs LCD for convenience, not everyone likes to type out the whole thing each time... ;)

ive received some pics from tileman of his M1330 with a good side view to find out for sure if he's got an LED.

Here are the results, this time using the engadget pic (which is the same LED thickness as dells pic)

Ok that's the best shot so far. Now that looks like a CCFL screen. So basically it looks like both shipped laptops might not be LED screens! So we are all screwed again, and tileman and Cleigal are double screwed.
