eric- that's pretty damn smart.

-
Oops. After looking back at Eric's sig, it does make sense.
Because my ESD never changed, I haven't had to haggle with anyone, but I am thinking about updating my shipping to same day. Any thoughts? If I could get it by 9/21 that would be perfect. -
call and complain and they will up you to overnight for free. i just had to act ticked off and they gave me a 100 dollar credit yesterday.
-
my order finally shipped! I have next day though and the edd is the 9-19 to 9-21? How does overnight mean possibly 4 extra days? It better come by the 19th. I'm leaving on the 22nd and I want to play around with it and make sure nothing is wrong with it before I'm at school worrying and doing a million other things.
-
mine says DHL ground
-
dhl got my package last night, or at least they put up my tracking information. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.
-
mine is saying Atlanta Hub in transit. if it gets to the Savannah station tomorrow morning it will be here tomorrow. Talking to a friend that works for ups he said most shipping companies start moving stuff from there central hubs to there stations on Sunday night.

I'm from Europe and in my case the delay for d630 was the graphic card (NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M, 1400 x 900). As I talked to rep, he said that it takes 23 days just to arive in EU and that the production can start... I will get it next week, thats a month after my order.
-
Hi guys,
I ordered a D630 a few days ago, but i'm confused about the month-long wait times that seem to be the standard for many of you.
When I ordered, I asked two reps (via phone and through the internet q&a) and they both said D630's ship within 5 to 10 business days. The estimated ship date is listed as a month from the order date, were those two being overly optimistic? -
The only reason I didn't order with overnight shipping is that the rep I talked to acted like I could get it earlier than the ESD, even thought the ESD was right at my cutoff. Now I have no choice but to change it.
-
a month wait seems pretty standard. One of my friends got a xps 1330 with a esd a month out. he got it in three weeks. Another friend got a xps and got it within a week. I thought the esd was just really far back so you wouldn't get mad if it shipped in like three weeks, but it seems like the wait is really that long or longer. The wait may shorten if they get all the parts, but it's uncertain. Just prepare for the worse I guess.
-
I called and changed to same day shipping so, I should get my unit this week, but I am concerned because my UPS driver usually just leaves packages under my doormat... Yes, it is as ridiculous as you could imagine. I came home expecting a pickup slip and I found a 2 ft tall box of books from Amazon under my "Wipe Your Paws" mat.
Does Dell use UPS, FedEx or DHL in the US? -
mine as well as several others are coming by DHL.
-
mine is dhl too. On the tracking page it says a signature is required so you don't have to worry about it being left at your door. Mine is in transit now! edd is tuesday but maybe they'll run ahead of schedule =)
-
Glad you guys are finally getting your laptops. Still stuck in Estimated Shipping Date hell here in the UK after nearly 8 weeks:
ordered = 24th July
ESD1 = 13th August
ESD2 = 3rd September
ESD3 = 5th October
I am praying that it arrives soon... I think I may require a minor miracle. -
ouch, hope dell has compensated you. That's definitely one of the longer wait times.
-
mine is out for delivery today.
-
MINE JUST GOT HERE! =) I'm opening the box now. I hope you guys get yours soon too because it rocks and I haven't even seen it yet! okay time to play with it.
-
I just talked to DHL, they have it and its coming on 9/19!! Except, if I am not here I will have to travel about 50 miles to get it.
-
its worth the trip i am digging in to mine right now and it is awesome. i am working on installing vista right now
-
it's really worth the drive. I'm typing on it now.

It looks like Dell's finally catching up in these orders(or at least meeting their shipping dates). I ordered a T7300 WXGA+ D630 on 8/28 and just called and it was apparently in the testing stage. my original ESD is 8/25, so it looks like they'll make it, maybe beat it if i'm lucky.
I hope everyone else's order goes well! -
So Dell lied to me. When I talked to them about why my ESD was so late, they offered to switch my shipping method to Next Business Day as a sort of apology for the delay.
On the Order Status site it DOES say that the method they shipped it via (on 9/17) is "Next Business Day".. but underneath that it says that the Estimated Delivery date is 9/20 - 9/24 (which would be standard 3-5 day ground) and the "carrier" is "DHL Ground".
On DHL's tracking site, it doesn't tell me what the ship method is, but it is nowhere near me (Milwaukee). It's still sitting in some processing facility in Michigan!
BOOO Dell! I want my laptop! -
The D630 I ordered on August 8th just got shipped yesterday (I'm in Canada, by the way). My original EDD was Sept. 7th, and the new one was Sept. 28th. When I last called (about 4 days ago), I was told that there was still a shortage of 14" TFT+ screens, but that it should be resolved by the end of September.
-
I just checked the Dell UK website (to see if I can see any reason for the delays - no!), but ironically I saw a little green badge in the Latitude laptops section that says "Quick Delivery"!!!! Good God, whatever next?

newer orders are actually being fulfilled faster than orders that have been ordered a few months ago i heard
its so dell can say in interviews that the delays only affect a "small number of customers"
its smart business on their part as its better to have 3-5% of customers waiting longer as they are already dissattisfied anyway as making the other 95-97% wait to also be dissattisfied
dell are trying to have the smallest number of unhappy customers possible and if i was them id do the same
its not fair on the people who ordered in june july but the majority of new orders are now being met inside two weeks -
-
I picked up mine Wednesday morning. It is well worth the wait. After I get finish modifying/optimizing/installing, i will try to do I review. BTW, I talked to someone with an Inspiron with the sames specs as mine and he is having a terrible time.

3 days with my d630 i have to say, it was well worth the wait. everyday i find some small detail that makes me apreicate it even more.
-
Can I ask what screen type you have? Is it a WXGA+ 1440x900? This seems to be the one that's causing the delays.
See my post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=171442 -
i have the WXGA+ 1440x900
-
I have that screen too.
-
Has anyone tried buying a ready-built one on ebay to save shipping issues? I see they have quite a few, including the 3yr onsite warranty, and cheaper too.
-
i actually looked at that, but i could never find one in the exact specs that i wanted. it seemed hard to find one with a t7300, bluetooth, intel abg, wxga+ , nvidia graphics and a finger print reader.
-
Yes, the fingerprint reader particularly hard to find on ebay. Also, not sure about the warranty issue either. Then again, you balance that against £100-£200 off the price and next day delivery. I guess they buy in large quantities and sell them as 'used', even though they're effectively new.
-
Mine is now in Delivery Preparation stage! Can't actually believe it to be quite honest!!! 64 days so far. I don't think I'll be able to believe it until I have it in my hands.
And to think I was so close to cancelling! -
-
64 days seems obscene...is this laptop really worth it?
I'm in Toronto, I ordered online on September 14th (WXGA+), it was shipped on September 26th. So, 12 days. Right now it is somewhere in the United States.
The process wasn't that easy, though. I've been trying to get a laptop since mid-July and have cancelled orders for the 1420, t61 and asus v2s...i hate delays but the smart move probably would have been sticking with the 1420...it was to ship in early september, after a 7 week wait. -
-
-
No, mine hasn't arrived yet. I have the same "in transit in the US" on my purolator status page. The estimated delivery date on the Dell order page has changed from October 10th to today, Sept 28th...obviously that isn't going to happen, but i'm hoping that means it will come by tomorrow or Monday.
Cool james, I hope i'm as happy with mine.
edit: purolator page says it's at the toronto sort centre now...i wont be home until tomorrow, i hope they haven't tried to deliver it already :/ -
Heh, mine says exactly the same thing now. It'll probably be Monday, I don't think they deliver on the weekend unless Dell's shipment instructions say so (and in that case, they probably don't say so since they always say how many "business days" it takes to deliver).
-
-
Dell have offered me credit of £50 for the late arrival of my D630 as a goodwill gesture. I didn't even have to ask...
And the D630 is excellent... Really, really pleased with it. It is very much worth the long wait. Vista has also been a pleasant surprise... -
in pre production and still no change, this is absurd.
-
Still playing the waiting game. I ordered on the 13th and have an ESD October 8th. Although, that still 6 days from now I am pretty sure it will not make it. My status page says "In Production" and the phone call say my notebook is still in the "build stage". Dell had a pending charges on my CC but recently, any pending charges from dell disappear? Is this normal?
Edit:Nevermind, point to sig. I guess my order will be one of the first to be actually ship on the esd.
