Not sure why everyone thinks the M1330's base price will be so expenesive. Sony SZ's base price is only $1,196 and Sony usually has more expensive prices than Dell. Remember you can order the M1330 without the LED screen and with a normal hard drive. I can't see Dell pricing the M1330 more than its closest competition, the SZ.
I wouldn't be suprised if they release the M1330 with the same base price of $999 as the current M1210 (which looks like will be discontinued very shortly).
A fully loaded M1330 with T7700 CPU, 4GB RAM, LED backlit screen, and 32GB SSD HDD will easily get you a price tag around $2,500-3,000.
-
It doesn't make sense at all for Dell to price it at $999, the bargain basement, clearance price of the current model. It's much more reasonable to expect its release price to be similar to the release price of the M1210, not the end-of-the-line price.

-
Remember folks the BASE price of the M1210 when release was ~$1300 NOT $999. -
-
Remember too that technology prices tend to go down over time. So you can't assume the M1330 will be priced the same as the M1210 was when it was released. A base priced M1330 will offer little more than what a base M1210 is offering now. So it wouldn't make sense to jack the price up and expect to generate lots of sales (remember Dell is now behind in the PC business, so they need to generate more sales, not less). -
How about we look at the Macbooks? Those start at $1200.00, and Dell certainly wouldn't price its base unit higher than that. I say a base price of 1000-1100 dollars.
-
-
Well, base config will likely be a T7100, x3100, 1gb RAM, maybe 80gb hard drive, right? That's not too bad in terms of performance. I'm guessing between $1250 or so for that kind of config.
-
I'm wondering if you'll need the dedicated 8400m GS for the HDMI port to be included? The HDMI port is really the selling point of the m1330 for me and that's no lie. There's not many 13.3" notebooks or 14.1" notebooks which offer both the HDMI and a decent design and build quality.

I think the XPS m1330 looks awesome. It's a shame that I just got my 6400 back in November. Now I wish I could have waited.
-
Just hope that the price will be lower than Sony SZ with the same specs, I will take one TQ
-
It's not going to be lower than $1300 which was the M1210 release base price. -
If samsung can make a comparable laptop for $1900...
I would hope dell would be able to match/beat them. After all, the Q70 has the same GPU, PLUS a integrated one to save battery like the sony 13.3" laptop. Same CPU, same form factor, same etc... and only differs on the screen and hard drive(as far as we know. It could be LED and could offer SSD) i dont think expecting it to be well equipped for around 1500$ is out of the question.
The only think i'm worried about, is the price premium on the LED screen. We all expect the SSD to add hundreds to the final price, and the dedicated GPU to add ~$100. -
That samsung's a lil bit too bulky for my tastes...

FuzionZ06: slickdealer hey?
-
Also, i doubt they'll force you to add on LED for the 8400gs. A lot of people will opt in for the LED because it uses less power... combining it with the 8400gs would negate all the extra battery life which in turn would turn off most of the people who are not interested in gaming. Plus, as far as i can tell, there wont be an extended battery(unless it jets out from the bottom, like the HP dv1000) so saving every watt of energy in this laptop will be important for dell. -

GS < G < GT
You are right though, its
G < GS < GT
Sorry about that. -
Fusion on that board!

haha nice.. I'm ceekay84 over there

New pics were released on engadget...
Here
I thought this one was interesting
HDMI and VGA... Anyone actually like that idea? I know there are DVI to VGA adapters, and HDMI is essentially DVI + digital audio, so couldnt they have just included a break-out cable that converts the HDMI port to a VGA port? Move the HDMI port where it is now, to where the VGA port is, and use that new space to add another USB port?
Maybe i'm being anal, but there is not a lot of port space in an ultra portable notebook... Especially when they use that hinge design, so you would think they would take out any and all redundant/unnecessary ports. -
Naa, I think its fine. It looks much much nicer in black though. If the price isn't too unreasonable, I am definitely getting this one. I need to get some BMW logo stickers to put over the Dell badges though; the one complaint I have with this laptop
.
One of the commenter's says that there is one apple like feature in this that is very apple like. I'm guessing its a magnetically latching lid... -
that two usb ports, offcentered touchpad, no docking solution is really really killing me here.
I might have to pass this and just go with the Dell XT.
Such a shame because that's such a beautiful notebook. -
2 USB sucks, non centered toucpad and no docking are killer
-
How about the speaker port in the front.... pretty annoying to have a cord wrap around the entire system
-
yea but good for headphones
-
I like the placement of the touchpad because when you're hands are on the keyboard, it lies directly between your wrists (instead of under your right wrist if it's centered on the notebook). Plus the fingerprint scanner offsets it, making it look less conspicuous.
I do wish they had a headphone jack in both front and back, instead of both in front. -
I dont understand why docking is taking so long to become mainstream. I was really hoping that this notebook would have the option, but really no shock that it doesnt.
-
Yep, there are still some things that bother me and make me hesitant. No docking station with only 2 usb ports is one of them. Just not good enough. Looks like I'll have to buy the logitech alto to make that 4. Still kind of sucky though.
Furthermore, what is the fuss about SSD if they only sell it with 32GB. I am sure as hell not gonna spend USD 500 fot that petty size. They'll sell it with Vista, right? So that means 16GB will already be allocated to the OS, leaving me with 4GB of music, 2GB of holiday photo's, one or two games, let's say 8 GB, so in total about 30 GB will be used as of the moment I own the notebook. That doesn't leave me much room for the future, let alone ripping one or two DVD's to watch during intercontinental flights. Same price for at least 64GB, preferrably 128GB and I'm in, but not for a measly 32...
Another worry for me is battery life (hence my general interest in SSD). How will the 8400 stack up against the X3100? Will it have a lot less battery life? And will I be able to play HL 2 and Battlefield 2 on it properly (meaning at 1200 - 800 settings)??? -
Ooops, one more thing. Will the x31oo play Tomb Raider legend properly? It is a 2006 game. If not, will the 8400 be able to handle that well?
It's all a question of power and battery life to me. I want at least 3,5 hours out of a 6 cell battery and preferably more. An 8 cell would have to last me 5 hours. -
Don't get me wrong guys, this is hands down the sexiest ultraportable/thin and light out there. All the things wrong, I'd still choose this over anything else any day of the week. The only competition, and the only other machine I've given considerating is the Dell Tablet XT.
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
I am not optimistic this machine will be very cheap. I think it will be close to the $2000 dollar mark. Also in addition to only have 2 usb ports. I have also noticed there is no modem on the 1330. Modems still come in handy from time to time.
-
I'm going to say $1400-1500. The M1210 was $1200 or something with GMA950 and stuff. This comes stock with a larger screen, HDMI out, and brand new DX10 discrete graphics and santa rosa platform. I'd be extremely surprised to see this under $1400.
-
Is this notebook better than the 1520 or 1720?
-
-
Sorri, I meant alot of people seem to be going for this one and I was wondering why?
-
The big question will be cost. -
According to this post the M1330 will start out costing $1,499 CANADIAN, which is equal to $1,399 USD.
But Dell Canada prices are always more expensive then Dell USA. For comparison, the M1210 currently sales for $1,399 CAD ($1,306 USD) on Dell Canada compared to $999 USD on Dell USA.
So the US M1330 could easily start out around $1,099.
EDIT: and this price includes 2GB RAM @ 667MHz and 120GB HDD. -
-
Wow, thats a really nice price. $150 for the GPU and $200 for the LED, and you would hit maybe $1800
-
can't wait for the inspiron launch tomorrow!
everybody don't forget to tune in

If the M1330 is going to be considerably more than the 1520 or about the same price....I am definately going with the 1520....simply because of the bigger screen and better GPU.
Let's guess the price of M1330
