For me the primary diff between the screens is the thinness (probably 2-3mm) and the extended battery life as the new screens are said to be more efficient than the old ones. Brightness comes tertiary to these things, as most of the time it's turned down to 50% to save battery life to begin with.

The led screen is a deal breaker for me because thats one of the things that makes this laptop a must have for me.
Otherwise i could have built the same config with another vendor for cheaper even with the university discount.
An asus s37s for example. -
I,too, am having serious doubts about not ordering the LED screen as it seems like there are no drawbacks to it (other than extra cost) but many benefits - brighter, thinner, more efficient, etc. I'm going to "risk" it and call to upgrade it.

That's what I was thinking. The LED seems really sweet. I didn't notice much of a difference on the macs, but the difference is (i think) the 1330 is designed with the LED in mind. (or better yet the 2 seem to be lovemates with each other) I tried calling Dell once before, but they were already asking what school i was affiliated with. I don't want to go through a whole mantra of lies and get myself shark bitten in the a$$.

Oh boy... i'm calling today after class to try and get the printer and 3 yr care removed... i hope they don't ask me. I have a feeling they might though because when the whole drake thing started i called in and tried to order this notebook over the phone using drake as my school, but the drake deal was over. In doing that though, i guess they have me on file as a drake student... shoot.
Then when i placed my order online (the one that's confirmed already) i ordered through LSU. BUTT, i did notice something interesting: When i had the LSU dell page open with my fully configured m1330, and if i opened on another firefox window my real university's page (sans m1330), and then i went back to the LSU window and hit the refresh button, after the page reloaded, at the top of the page where it used to say LSU, it now said my university's name. After that i placed my order and it seems like everything went through.
So i wonder what that's going to mean when i call in. I guess i'm going to need to have 2 alibis prepared when i call in, just in case. -
I called today to add a fingerprint reader - I was transferred to FIVE different people, and after the fifth person put me on hold to transfer me to another department, I hung up. 42 minutes on the phone, Ridiculous.

^^ Dell has big call center

On Sat., June 30, at about 3pm I ordered via Florida U. and have not received a confirmation yet. They say 2 business days and yesterday was Sunday but... Has anyone received a confirmation on the Florida deal this morning and when did you place the order?
-
i ordered friday morning and have not recieved confirmation... mine was through florida

Seriously, if you are not a student you should NOT be ordering via this method. Regardless of if Dell does or does not check orders to see if actual students are ordering, this basically amounts to fraud as you are getting a deal by lying about who you are.
End of story, and end of topic. This thread has been going on for too long on how to take advantage of students and the deals offered.
New topics or questions should be directed to a new thread...thanks.
