Has anybody tried to call and add the fingerprint reader after getting the confirmation? Will it be pretty straightforward or there is a chance they may refuse to allow it?

i think that will happen to drake deal... -
so if this was a mistake, the cancellation is its fate.
-
Maybe not....
"Well, I called them, and they said it was cancelled by their credit card department (I'm guessing because I used my dad's credit card with my dell account). That's understandable, but the fact that not only did they not tell me of the cancellation"
kid sounds like an idiot who "borrowed" his dad's CC -
I used a stolen credit card and mine is still "in production".
I will keep you updated. -

-
lol i was joking.
but i did order under the guise of a drake professor. im still in production -

waiting for shipment details from others... what to do!
I am thinking about buying it direct from dell with no stupid deals :~ -
Rockhurst offers a pretty good deal on XPS 1330. Not as good as Drake, upgrades a tad more expensive but still it's $650 off... I guess it's on the level with the UFL deal... If you missed Drake, I'd suggest jumping on Rockhurst before Dell closes shop on that one too

It's kinda weird that these "price mistakes" pop out all over the place, don't you think? -
time will tell about mistakes
-
Well.. I got confirmation emails on both the Drake and University of Florida Dell XPS M1330 deals... going to hold on to both for now and hope one of them ships. That XPS M1330 looks hot and would match my XPS M1710 perfectly.

So there have been plenty of order confirmations, but still no cancellations?
(except for the slickdeals one - has anybody actually confirmed this?) -

Are you guys receiving confirmation emails on the weekend? I don't know when Dell operates, 5 days a week or 7.
I ordered from U of Florida on Friday at about 8:30 CST. Did anyone else do the same around the same time. If so, did you get a confirmation? -
-
-
dell xps m1330 was removed from dell.com/rockhurst what do think?!
-
Ordered my xps via drake deal on friday am. Got a confirmation on saturday night. (they charged my dell card on friday as soon as I ordered)
good luck all! -
So...what happens if I don't get a confirmation email, but never get a cancellation email? Do I just assume that it didn't go through? Will there be negative repercussions if I call in to cancel since I lied about my school? Little disappointing since it will cost $300 more from my own school.

poor father... :/

I don't buy that "father" message. First of all, how did he know about the "intranet" message, if his son is not on campus and does not even have the drake.edu email? Secondly, that was the 2nd post by that guy. I'd say it's someone on slickdeals trying to scare the rest away so that he gets on the deal.

Simple mathematics people. If dell knows how to do one thing thats addition.
Drake enrollment - Roughly 5,000 with post graduates
Rockhurst enrollment - Around 3,000 with post graduates
Florida enrollment - 34,000 undergrads and another whopping 15,000 post graduates
This is the reason the drake deal fizzled so quickly. You cant have more orders than the enrollment and the volume of hits they experienced on the site was probably very disproportionate to what it is usually.
Dell purposely gave that deep discount to a school that didnt have that many students. Which is also why bigger schools like florida dont have a huge discount and also havent had the deal disappear from their epp site.
For small schools the deal is there till a certain number of orders then it goes bye bye. For larger schools its there at a certain price point then when enough orders come in at that discount they bump up the price of the upgrades.
Its simple, if the school you go to is offering a decent discount on anything it might be in your best interest to keep it to yourself. Your not only ruining it for yourself but for your fellow students.
I also dont think that too many of the drake or rockhurst orders are going to ship. It just wouldnt be fair to that school or their students because its just too obvious the process has been tampered with. Their is no way everyone enrolled at a school decided to take advantage of this program. The numbers just dont make sense. -
math is gay. i want my laptop.
-
I'm pretty sure number of Drake orders is nowhere close to the enrollment number, just like in any other institution. At the most, I'd say Dell got 300 orders at Drake. You are right about one thing - Dell did obviously have a quota per institution which got filled and cut out automatically.
-
-
confirmation is not enough we must wait for ship date time will tell.
-
Is it possible to take stuff off the Drake M1330 or get the shipping charge taken off without the printer? Could stuff like the case and 3 year warranty be taken off to save money or will they not let you?
-
What's with the guilt-trip about buying the m1330 when it was on sale from Drake?? It's unbelievable how Dell designs their sales websites anyway! I worked for their kiosk before and you learn little sneaky things when you're there. For instance if you click on one link for an E1505 versus another link, you could get almost exactly the same thing and the price difference would have been nearly $300 bucks or some ridiculous amount like that. Of course to get to that coveted deal, you would have to maneuver through the site like you've done it a million times.
It's almost as if they hoped sales reps would show customers the higher priced E1505 when there was something similar under Smart Values or "Notebooks Advertised at This Price. I was told personally "Stop showing the smart values computers, but take them to the bundle pages because we make more margin off of those (b/c they had the warranty)." And when the average Joe-Schmoe walks up to a kiosk and starts designing/configuring his dream system, he's not going to look around the website and click link after link and realize oh there is a cheaper price for this exact same thing I built. He'll just, like 99% of the customers that shop at the kiosks, will go from the mainpage and start configuring what he wants and will think that is the only price--which is logical.
I mean, believe it or not, people on these message boards or slickdeals are not the average shopper/user. So kudos to them for being that much smarter to pay cheaper prices. If Dell wants to offer Drake U students that price directly, they should limit the access of their Drake U Dell page.
If Dell wants to give Drake U students ridiculously low prices on m1330s, they shouldve put the systems in their bookstore or computer store. I've been to UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC Berkeley's bookstores and they have way better deals than the student deals you'd find at any Apple store. But you need to show your student ID to purchase. It was worth it because they beat the the Apple store prices by $200-300 sometimes.
And there's this whole thing about whether that price was specifically set like that for Drake U or whether it was a pricing error. If it was a pricing error, they should go through with that because that's what incompetence leads to. As most of the Dell Customer/Phne reps said, "it was a pricing error." THey didn't say "Oh that deals was only for students in Iowa." -
Hi everyone,
I got a confirmation for Drake without a ship date and a confirmation for the Florida deal with the ship date. My plan was to just cancel one as soon as one has shipped. I'm definitely not planning to resell the XPS M1330 (so no point of getting 2), too much hassle trying to resell on Ebay for a profit plus both my XPS orders are specced out with T7300 CPU, LED/VGA, 8400GS, Soundblaster HD, Bluetooth, etc. Is a confirmation with an estimated ship date more "secure" in likelihood of order fulfillment than a confirmation without? I really hope this deal goes through because true XPS deals are so rare(I picked up my M1710 with a 30% off EPP deal, 12% off for EPP warranties, and a 5% Discover credit last summer but it was a Core Duo CPU right before the Core 2 Duos were released) -
You could be charitable and sell the other one to a forum member who missed out ! -
When I ordered my laptop from Drake I accidentally ordered the non-LED screen. Is it risky to change the order? And will the lappy be kinda bulky/weird looking aesthetically with a standard LCD screen? (i.e: is it worth the effort in changing the order)
I just dont wana get my order canceled. I'm strapped for college as-is, and this laptop is a life-saver. I would've order it from my school if Dell didn't direct me to their sh!tty store w. overpriced laptops. (UBuffalo's store is terrible except for software.) -
You're asking if it would be messed up with a "standard" LCD screen... it wouldn't be the widely accepted type of notebook display if it @(*#ed up the aesthetics
Unless someone who knows better than me (more qualified) has different information, I would say better safe than sorry and just keep the LCD. What I've heard it's just a little better battery life and a little more brightness... -
... and just a tad thicker lid... Nothing major, it's just a $150 upgrade, so you are actually saving money
Me, I want LED but it's not a deal-breaker really
