Hey Guys,
First off, "Murdoc", thanks a lot for the thread, it's really appreciated by all.
I have a quick question for everyone. I went ahead with the running recomended 156.66 drivers, but I am having some troubles.
1) Nvidia Control Panel does not open.
2) When I try to update my windows experience my computer crashes.
Are people having the same problems?
Is there a solution? Have I done something wrong?
-
-
Hmmm..I have 156.66 right now, but I have none of those problems. Maybe try a reinstall of the driver?
Also my before my 156.66 update I couldn't get output signal through VGA or HDMI, now with 156.66 I have VGA output signal, but no HDMI signal. What's the problem? Should I updated to 16X.XX ? -
I downloaded the driver again and reinstalled it.
All works fine.
I don't want to admit it, but I think I might have installed the XP drivers and not the vista 32 drivers.
So if any other bozzo pulls the same move and is asking a similar question you know what to say. -
What's the latest Nvidia driver so far that works perfectly? Should I choose 15X.XX or 16X.XX?
-
It depends on if you want maximum performance (16x.xx) or lower heat/energy drainage (15x.xx)
I would go with the 15x.xx since my laptop already overheats and turns itself off from playing ut2004 and quake 4 -
really? That's not normal
But yeah I'm still using 156.66 and it stays warm while gaming, not hot at all -
Oh I see. I think I installed 156.66 last time but I'm not exactly sure. How do I check to see what exact driver version I have?
Yeah, I'd rather go with the 15X.XX ones too...Anybody know what the latest one is for the 15X.XX series? -
and you should see your driver version details... -
Thanks Blackrussian, great rep!
So what's the latest 15X.XX series so far? -
The mobile drivers? 156.83 for xp and 156.79 for vista
-
Anybody try out 156.79 yet? Or should I keep 156.66?
-
I got the 156.66 drivers running. The funny thing was that when I did the vista benchmark test the gameing grafics stayed at 4.0 and my vista desktop graphics score increased 0.1 to 4.7.
my base score is still 4.0.
Could someone please comment on having 4 gb of Ram? I'm running 2 gb at the moment and find that with certain applications Vista pro really gets bogged down.
I know you can never have enough ram, but is it woth the $200 to upgrade.
Who do you recommend I purchase the memory from I'm tempted to buy from edge tech corp, but I'm not sure who manufactures their memory.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated -
I bought a stick of this last week and upgraded my XPS M1330 to 4GB tonight. Everything is humming along happily. (And of course it's 10 bucks cheaper this week, grr.)
-
Yea I got a 4GB kit for 69.99 after rebates
and my vista scores are 4.1 for aero and 4.8 for gaming. the gaming one actually went up .1 from 4.7 to 4.8 after i installed the 4GB. not much of a change but i wasn't expecting a big change -

What are the improvements with a09?

Dell updated the nVidia driver today to 174.31.
Anyone noticed any improvements? -
Thanks for providing the updates. I've been busy lately and so I'm doing the updates now on the front page. Sorry for the long wait.
-
------------------
1. Updated Intel uCode.
2. Added support for New optical drives.
3. Support new CPUs.
4. Added enhancement for thermal control.
5. Added enhancement for MediaDirect control. -
-
174 series have control panel improvements, .31 doesn't detect currently installed games correctly, while .51 .53 and 60 does detect currently installed games correctly.
overall 174 is a good driver series, but if you would upgrade i would look for 174.60 instead of 174.31 -
-
updated drivers for the pointing stick (aka. touch pad)
-
My guess ist that there is little to no difference between the 1530 & 1330 drivers - after all, nVidia is always working with unified drivers... -
174.31 is amazing for games. All of my games run a lot smoother. Not to mention that my laptop puts out less heat now and the fan doesn't run as often or as loudly.
I have noticed some weird issues with video playback though. Video quality just looks a bit down from before when I had 169.28. Also when playing h264 videos, the cpu usage is way up. With 169.28, it would stay in the mid-30s while with the 174.31 drivers, cpu usage is up in the 90s. Purevideo isn't working or something >.> -
when both laptops use excact same hardware.
i'm using custom driver from guru3d, right now 174.70 -
My fans also started cranking up after a few seconds of watching, and took a minute or two to wind down after closing media player classic. -
Also, the 174.60 drivers are (and have been, for a while now) available for Vista x86 and x64, WHQL for Dell laptops, at laptopvideo2go.com

My M1330 laptop was delivered in early December, and I think I upgraded the video drivers to something off of LaptopToGo's website.
Anyway, I found that I was unable to upgrade to Vista sp1 (using Windows Update) until not only my fingerprint drivers were updated (from Manufacturers website, since Dell still has outdated drivers), but I had to update my Nvidia graphics drivers to the March 18/19 version on Dell's website.
Vista sp1 updated sucessfully. My graphics score and overall vista experience score went up. The only issue I had was when testing file transfer speeds between my Windows XP desktops and the Vista laptop using my network adapter (wired). The laptop initially only transfered at 5 MB/s, versus 11 MB/s for destop to desktop transfers (also using a 100 mbits/s setting). Even though I had the most current Networking drivers installed, I went ahead and redownloaded the most current Networking drivers from the Dell site and installed on top of the old ones.
Problem solved. Wired network transfers now happen at 11 MB/s (88 Mbits/s).
So far, I'm very satisfied with the Driver and Vista sp1 updates to my M1330. Everything seems very stable. I don't have any H.264 video, so I haven't been able to test to see if CPU usage is high or not. -
New Driver on dell.com,R180763.exe, how does it compare to the one posted here for a while now? dell driver is new as of 3/18..should i go with that one?
-
There only seems to be talk of the Nvidia video card. Any info on the best driver for the integrated Intel X3100 for us non-gamers?
Apparently it has an issue (or is it Vista?) where after a resume from Sleep the display resolution changes from 1280x800 to 1024x768. After searching it seems someone said that there is a newer driver directly from Intel that fixes the problem but isn't compatible with Dell Quickset (for onscreen graphics of screen brightness changes, volume changes, wifi catcher, etc).
Thanks. -
