They tend to come half charged. You won't need to discharge it entirely like with the old ni-cads, but you can certainly do so to calibrate it if you'd like.

Hey my laptop went into "Shipped" phase today but it still has no tracking information. Does that mean it hasn't actually been shipped yet? Where in the country does it ship from? And how long does it usually take for them to put up the tracking info?

I think it means that is waiting to be picked up, or recently picked up. Tracking should be available soon if it was picked up, or shortly after its picked up.

What kind of shipping did you get? If its next day, it should get to you on Tuesday.

what other optical drives do they have for the dvd drive besides the optiarc?

 

My M1530 that is on way has TEAC. I read that TEAC is quietest drive.

 

Well, they have the TEAC and the Matsu****a (aka. Panasonic) and apparently for people with SNO in their part name, they get Sonys (unconfirmed, may be false, but the Teac and Matsu****a are the other options they use).

 

how did you figure out what your configuration is before you recieved it, im curious, im in boxing stage right now

 

Service tag. Look at your invoice when it ships.

 

If it says Optiarc... get ready to get a replacement or be ready to call a technician to replace it with a better drive. Hopefully you'll have to do neither of those.

My computer is sitting about 20 miles away at the local DHL hub. They won't let me come pick it up.

Anytime now it will update that its at the Local canton office, an hour by walking, 10 minutes by driving. I wont be allowed to pick it up. Really kinda pisses me off they cant offer that feature. Why not honestly? If you show up with your ID and prove who you are and know your tracking number and the Dell Order number which is a note on the Package that proves who you are and that its yours. No, you gotta wait on them, they wanna horde it in there hub for the weekend and feel special, ****ers.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SOOOOOO INTERESTED, i did get it, and i got it last night at 4:43 PM.

Now let me just give you guys a little background information..

I am currently 18 and I bought this laptop as a High school graduation present for myself and my graduation was yesterday! 5/30 and i had to be down at the stadium by 5PM lol so i left before the laptop arrived, BUT my mother was home and she signed for it and it is in the living room since then..

The ceremony lasted until 9PM last night and we got presents and leis, and then we all go to GRAD NIGHT, and i just came home, unpacked everything, recorded a video of unboxing with some pictures, and i am currently using my XPS M1530 to type this Post

Now I DO have a little hump in the middle of the keyboard but it doesnt really bother me.. And i DO have the optiarc DVD Drive but i will see how loud it REALLY IS when i put in a game to install..

IM STOKED

Do me a favor? Videotape yourself fixing the cables under the keyboard. Many reps for you if you do that

Also take a video of your Opt. drive with sound!
