Just curious if the keyboard is backlit all the time, or there is a control to turn it on/off?
Dell has a winner this time, way better than the new HP.
-
Man, the backlit keyboard is so sweet.
-
Fn + Right Arrow I believe. -
Sweet colors man, just wanted to ask a few things as I am ready to buy one too.
1. This is probably the most important question I have: Does the LED screen reflect like a mirror, I have a notebook right now that reflects like HELL on earth and am planning to return. I need your honest opinion on this when you have the laptop outside not in direct sunlight but in the outside with normal sun, I know everything seems okay inside so.
2. Is the graphics card good for video and stuff. (I am not a gamer so I'm not looking for super-duper 3d GFX)
3. Does the DVD drive or HD make noise and how is the heat under the notebook ,is it bearable? -
A few questions about this notebook:
1. Will Dell offer any other GPU options besides the HD3470 256MB?
2. How is the screen quality? Will there be a matte screen option when customzing online?
3. Will there be an option for the newer Montevina CPUs such as the P9500? (It seems that they are still using Santa Rosa-the T5750 CPU)
Other comments:
This notebook looks amazing, particularly the back-light keyboard.
It's incredible that Dell has managed to add this to their budget notebook line-up. It's too bad none of the expensive brands offer such an option.
Anyway, for the price, this notebook is a great deal!!!
By the way, the power-button located on the hinge is nothing new. Sony has been doing that for a while now with their TZ series. It's dissappointing that they haven't offered a back-ligh keyboard as an option yet.
Other notebooks that do have back-light keyboards are as follows: Alienware M15x, Macbook Air. This is a great feature, and I hope other companies begin to implement this feature in their notebooks... -
is it quiet ? fan noise off ?
does it get hot ? is the fan running always ?
what's the battery run time ?
anybody got an LED display or 1920 hd display ?
wish it came in non glossy, matt ? only 1510 has matt display,... -
Dell has a reputation of making silent notebooks...
The battery life should be decent. You can expect at least 3-4 hours with these specifications.
I don't think these notebooks will have an option for a 1080 HD display.
You made a mistake in saying 1920 HD. These is no such thing. The resolution for true high-definition (1080 HD) is 1900x1200, if that's what you mean. Don't expect a lot from a budget notebook.
It seems that there will only be an option for a glossy screen with either a 1200x800 or 1400x900 resolution on the 15 inch notebook. 1400x900= 720HD (the minimum for high-definition) -
@pocky: Is the glossy finish a dust/fingerprint/scratch magnet? -
Great! So this notebook will have an option for HD. The screen resolution options seem promising. How is the screen quality though?

4. Will this notebook have a blu-ray option?
5. Does the slot drive make a lot of noise? -
Wow! This thread got long! Thank you again for the awesome comments!!
I was playing with a XPS1330 today at Best Buy. Honestly, it didn't feel as solid, but then again, it WAS a display model. I did like the aluminum palm rest. All in all, I am VERY VERY VERY happy with my Studio 15. Wouldn't have it any other way!
I think the graphics card is great! I'm the same, I'm not a gamer, but i do alot of multimedia. So it's good.
The DVD drive makes noise. The heat is bearable. Except when you are in a very warm room, it will get pretty hot. Other then that, it's VERY stable heat. The hottest spot is the left palm area.
I find myself wiping it down alot. -
Will there be an option for the HD3650 256MB in the 15" notebook upon customization? The HD3470 doesn't seem enough...
-
There is indeed a blu-ray option. As for HD3650, not at the moment. Only the 3470
-
What do you think about comparing the SSD and regular HDD Drive?
-
Also what are the bootup time and how is Vista working for you. I am hesitant to switch to Vista as I may not be able to install XP on it as there are no XP drivers for the new components in the Studio 15 also is the plastic palmrest stable and comfortable to type on when having the laptop in your lap? Also when you say that the DVD drive makes noise is it a normal dvd loading/reading/writing sound or is it louder than normal? I have asked somebody on Dell chat if the touchpad is an Alps and he said it was. Is the Alps touchpad responsive and work with full functionality, does it do smooth scrolling and is the touchpad silk screen smooth?
-
This looks like a sweet deal!
-
Nice pics of the keyboard... it really rocks....
Is it like the MacBook Pro? With the light sensor that dims the screen and turns on the keyboard? -
The Studio 15 does indeed look quite good! Thanks for the pix. Although, the reason I went for the XPS M1530 was that it isn't as thick as the studio design and for the better Nvidia graphics card. But that lightup heyboard does look pretty sweet... anyways congrats on your new laptop!
-
I hate to rain on your parade, but just something I personally dislike is the gloss. The whole thing is glossed up to look great when you open it but I worry in a few months time the laptop wont look to crash hot. :S
-
^ ... thanks for ruining the party.
well anyways, the studio looks sweet! dang now I want something that looks a little decent. -
I want MORE PICS.
-
me too
, this notebook is one of my best choice for next upgrade
-
Thank you Pocky for taking the time to answer all the questions and sharing the pictures with us. I am more than 3000 miles away from you and yet I feel like I am seeing the Studio 15 right next to me.
I will upgrade my present Dell this year so this is surely a prime candidate.
-
What does the button on the left hinge do??
The one on the right is the power button isn't it?
Salu2! -
@pocky : did you ever find the wallpapers?
please post if you did also if anyone else has recieved there studio feel free to post them also.
thanks in advance. -
Hey, thanks for sharing the photo's, looks really nice..
Hope you really enjoy it!(what am I saying, I'm sure you will)
Cin' -
Hey man, I'd be very thankful, if you post the wallapers that came with your Studio, if possible all of em'
Thanks in advance.
And BTW, Congrats on your purchase, i wish i had such laptop. I think Dell will release and updated XPS line with mix-up of all that cool features when Montevina comes out
Edit: Hey man, that remote that comes is soooo cooolll...Does that work with other laptops? I mean could i possibly buy a same one for my M1330 -
I'm thinking of picking one up as well, probably just the 799 model with a few small upgrades (ram and i really like the graphite grey)
-
Definitely a gorgeous looking laptop. Very clean and spiffy looking. My only issue is the fact that it gets thicker on the opposite end. But other than that its definitely a step in the right direction for Dell in terms of style.
-
Hi! May I ask, how is the build quality? Is it sturdy? How about the screen hinges? Does screen wobble when opened?
Thanks in advance! -
Even though I have absolutely no need for it, this thread is making me want to purchase a Studio 15!!
-
Waiting for Pocky with his reply.

thanks don! I am using one as my wallpaper now... do when I get my 15 delivered They will match
-
Thanks again for the comments! Gosh! I just love you guys! LOL I can feel the love from this community.
I'm starting to really like Vista. Aside from some really annoying security features, it's awesome! I haven't used this on my lap per say, but yes it's comfortable. But I tend to wipe my palm rest down alot cause of smears. I think the DVD drive makes noise only upon insertion and eject. The touchpad is not as responsive as I like. I actually prefer my friend's Dell 700m touchpad. The touchpad is not smooth, but a rather rough texture. Which I dislike also. Thankfully I got the Logitech VX Revolution.
What are your specs donwilson? I have a Studio 15 partner!
The other three wallpapers.

Pokey, thanks for the other three wallpapers, they are cute.

This is kind of an off topic question from what the thread's topic is but this question is for pocky:
The pictures that you took were of very high, spectacular quality. Could you please tell me what camera it is, how many megapixels does it have, and roughly how much did you have to shell out for it as it really does not look a $200 or even $300 camera, it really looks like a $1000 camera or above to me but i am just curious to know. Thanks in advance and BTW great pics and feedback for the new Studio 15. Excellent. -
here you go:

Thanks CeeNote! It just didn't come to my head that I could find out that way too and thanks for the Newegg link as that is exactly where i was going to go to check it out and maybe buy it after finding out what camera it is. (I am a big Newegg fan.
) Anyway thanks and I'll make sure I look at the properties of the picture first for future camera finding.

I don't maybe it is just me but I kind of miss the craziness of everyone asking questions about the Studio 15 on this thread and everyone talking about every detail about the notebook. The thread has kind of slowed down a lot as pretty much everyone has gotten all their questions answered.
-
I consider to buy the Studio 15, and have some questions that I hope someone can answer:
Should I choose the T8100 processor or the T5750, what is the practical difference?
What is the difference from the 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) and the 15,4-tums WXGA+ WLED (1 440 x 900)?
I also plan to choose the "Blu-ray Disc (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM) Slot Drive including SW", and my question here is; can you burn "normal" DVD and CD with the blu-ray?

Just took advantage of the killer deal at Staples. Special ordered a
blue Studio with Vista 32-bit, T-5750, 3GB DDR2, 250GB 7200 RPM HD,
X-3100 IG, integrated wireless-G. Got it for $699, which is an absolute
steal(free shipping, too). This is way cheaper than a custom order from
Dell. Looking forward to checking out this bad boy.
