It's due to arrive this Wednesday at my local Staples store. I'll post
some photos, since some of you guys are probably interested in
what it looks like in blue.

@rea
You should def consider getting the t8100 instead of the t5***. All the t8 series and above are considered penryns, the latest processors (though montevina will come out soon) and offer more power and consume less energy Regarding the resolutions, the 1440 by 900 res offers hundreds of more pixels than your other option, meaning better movie playback and more detail in games. And finally the blu ray drive will be able to burn dvd and cd -
hi qaz333!
Thank you for the answers!
Is the Montevina processor going to be an option in the Dell Studio, and if that is the case is it worth waiting for it?
r -
It will definitely be an option in the Dell Studio. I think it's worth waiting for the new montevina chipset; it'll be more powerful than today's penryn processors and still use less power (produce less heat).
-
That' wallpaper wasn't pre-installed in this computer.
I was looking for that too haha
Thank you! Yep! As CeeNote said, it's a Canon Powershot SD1100, just a simple point & shoot.
I love Canon's!
I can't wait to see the Blue!!
I have been sitting around downloading random things and tweaking Vista. I just can't stop!
So far, I'm just loving the Studio 15!! Someone will probably do a review, before I even get to doing one on mine. LOL -
Can someone tell me when this e-value code for the studio 15 expires: DNDPUA1
Also if anyone has any suggestions for any other coupons or e-value codes for a loaded studio 15. Also should I wait for the Montivina processors to come out in the studio 15 or just go ahead and get the t9300 processor at 2.5ghz? Also if it is going to come out in the studio 15 about how long will i have to wait? And finally is there any hope that Dell will switch to putting the Synaptics touchpad into the notebook instead of the intensely useless (cr*p*y) Alps one? -
After a few days of tossing the idea around, I bought the studio 15 from staples in red. I couldn't see the point in paying hundreds more for the same thing from dell.com. Love it.
-
Waiting patiently for anyone's reply for my question that's above.
-
Staples is the way to go, if you're willing to forego the backlit keyboard. I did have some concerns about the integreated graphics, but they seem to more than adequate for basic Windows tasks. I, too, didn't see the point in handing Dell an extra $200.
-
hey guys, quick question to the lucky owners
do you have the mix stereo feature ("What you hear") on this laptop ? -
Waiting for pocky...
-
Just got mine, its brilliant! Any questions or anything just ask
-
My Midnight Blue Studio 15 is arriving tomorrow. I got mine from Staples
and am wondering if it will have a backlit keyboard.
I noticed some keyboard flex on the sample I checked at the store.
How's yours?
Rob -
Nope, the Staples models do not have backlit keyboards. How much did you pay for yours? I'm pretty sure you'll find this feature conspicuously left off the box. I thought that all the keyboards were backlit and differentiated only by an enabled driver, but that appears incorrect.
Although it lacks many of the available upgrades, the Studio 15 & 17 from Staples is a fine notebook as configured. -
Can you get custom orders from Staples? Or were they just out of the Blue one? Their price seems to be cheaper than Dell's, at least last time I saw.
-
There is a little bit of flex, but its not too noticible on mine, unless you press abnormaly hard.
I'd like to see what the blue is like though.
Mine is Tuxedo Black and even though its not glossy, greasy fingerprints are a nightmare
Hope this helps. -
When I ordered mine last week, I was told you couldn't custom order anything and that all the models were sold as-configured. This struck me as a little odd, since I have customized other computers (although not notebooks) in the past through them. Perhaps it had something to do with it being the first week Staples had the Studios in stock? Their price was (and probably still is) cheaper than Dell's, but their systems also lack the backlit keyboard and dedicated graphics - both of which are standard online. Staples bridges this gap by offering 4GB of RAM standard, although the benefit of this may be marginal since a 32-bit OS can't really address all of that anyway.
-
Perhaps I'm being silly here, but I can't find anything to do with the "Dell Dock" I've heard so much about. Any help would be appreciated.
-
Hmmmmm, good question. Never checked.
The Dell Dock should have already loaded when you first boot the laptop up. Personally I didn't like the Dell Dock. I uninstalled it in favor of RocketDock. -
It's obvious that Dell/Staples have a contract for specifically configured
Studios. I don't really have any real need for the backlit keyboard, and
would rather have more RAM and the bigger hard drive from the "better"
version at Dell.
I believe all the Studio 15s from Staples come with 3GB, which is the max
for Vista 32-bit. I'm really glad I was able to special-order my Studio
in Midnight Blue at the great sale price of $699. I'm picking it up tomorrow
and will post some shots.
Rob -
I bought mine from staples and it didn't have the dock on it. I went to dell.com and downloaded it. It's cool but nothing to get excited over.
-
Yeah, the Studios from Staples are missing a few programs, but it's certainly not a dealbreaker. It's too bad they didn't keep their sale prices up longer, but maybe they will return.
-
I wish that someone would come out with a skin for this model. I want to put one on mine before I take it anywhere.
-
@ChicagoRob ... would u plz post some pics of ur midnight blue. thanks -
I ordered a Studio 15 two days ago.
The estimated ship date is August 5th which is absolutely killing me. It is the first laptop I will own and I am ecstatic. It went into production the same night I ordered it which I was happy about and I believe their estimation dates add in 5-10 days to give a rough, pessimistic estimate. Can anyone confirm or deny this that has ordered from Dell? I live in NJ.
Second question, how does my setup look for a casual computer user?
edit: last question, just out of curiosity, how big is the difference between the high def and the default glossy screen?

^^^ I am also going to order more or less the same config as above (Still not sure about the Audigy Software though) and I also have the same question.
What is it about the WLED screen that makes it so expensive !!! It would be fantastic to have some one who has seen the output of both screens side-by-side
Edit....And one more very important question: Does it have a HDMI output? Should I even care as I will not have a Blu-Ray drive anyway??? -
It's new, in-demand, expensive tech - that's what! There are plenty of threads around, search for 'em.
Yes it has a HDMI. Should you care? Do you want to connect it to a tv/monitor, with one cable for Video and audio? Then yes. Otherwise it's nice for bragging rights
-
^^^Oh man.....time already for buying a new TV then
(My current TV has no HDMI input...only S-Video In, which I used to use with my existing laptop!!!) -
I also wanted to see some colored ones.....in particular I want to know if the "patterns" that I saw on graphite gray body pics on page 2 are offered on colored ones also or is it another of "only graphite gray" thing like the colored trims?
-
After ordering I realized that the Audigy Software isn't REALLY worth it, but I can really care less at this point.
And if you guys didn't realize, the Studio 17 was reviewed on this website and it's basically the same thing as the Studio 15 with a bigger screen and the colour reviewed is blue. -
The studio 17 also has a better graphics card, the 3650 vs. the 15's 3450 and optional dual hard drives.
-
^ Same colour though - what he was referring to!
-
No feedback whatsoever, nor an explanation of why he's selling?
Think I'll hold off, thanks. -
looks like one of the ones from staples, same color, same configuration, he even included a staples link.
-
My Studio 15 just got shipped. A week before the estimated ship date.
I cant wait to get my hands on it. -
Sounds like this feature is enabled by default but i'd like to hear it from someone elese too
Thanks ! -
Any owner of a colored Studio15 care to answer?
-
The graphite design is not available on the solid color laptops. Although, the graphite design is on the palm rest area of the laptop surrounding the mouse pad on all the Studios.
Choosing graphite you have the option to choose a "trim" - red, pink, blue, or black.
You can see the graphite with red in my avatar. -
For those that have received theirs, do you have any problems with the fingerprint reader software? I've enrolled my fingerprints but can't seem to get them to open/unlock anything. The logon manager tells me to open a screen where I want to link a fingerprint, but nothing happens. Is there a guide online for this software? I went to the Digital Persona site, but there is no documentation to speak of.
-

Tried to negotiate with them about gettin extended warranty for free and other discounts but all 3 reps I talked to wouldnt do anythin for me, except give me their employee number for "faster shipping" which probably just means they want some sort of commission for "helping" me. -
Wait, I don't like the graphite design and I don't want it anywhere on my laptop. If I choose to have a solid color, the graphite design will still be in the palm rest area?
-
On the Studio 17 review on this website, the pictures show the graphite on the palm rest area of a blue cover Studio 17. I'm sure the same goes for the Studio 15.

why 3 ???????
-
My Midnight Blue Studio 15 has the graphite design in the palm rest area.
I have to say that it looks very nice. It's quite subtle and not distracting
in any way.
Rob -
Well I just got mine. Havent turned it on yet. But for some reason mine didnt have any remote on the side. It just has a piece of plastic that is shaped like the remote.
Mine doesnt have this. -
Have you called Verizon? That's ridiculous.
-
Looks fantastic!
Quick question for everyone who has recieved their studio and might know this: what's the size/weight difference between the Studio 15 and the Inspiron 1525? The pictures make the Studio look a bit bulkier to me, but that just could be because of the way it is designed to taper towards the front and in actuality it's quite smaller than the 1525.... just curious because I can't get my hands on one!!
I'm quite jealous, it looks like an amazing machine!!
My Studio 15 just arrived!!
