I didn't know remotes were standard, I thought they were extra. I remember seeing an option for a remote with the three I ordered, but I didn't bite. They are work computers; I doubt anyone will care.

Can anyone confirm an eSATA connector on thiers? I've heard that some do not come with one. Also, is the CPU removable or soldered to the board

Nevermind on the eSATA, i was getting that confused with the dv5z

So, is everybody doing a fresh reformat/reinstall, or just manually removing bloatware and other garbage? I'm new to windows, so I wanna know what I should do. Hopefully mine will be shipped soon!

I ordered mine (in Bangalore India) on 18th July. Dell first said July 23rd as the delivery date but yesterday extended it to 4th Aug!!!!! Sucks but gotta swallow and move on. Dell agent told me that the mine would be among the first 100 in all of India :)

    Hi, great thread and pics.

I posted on the Dell studio first thoughts thread a question but anybody was kind enough to answer me...

Does Dell plan to make a version of this notebook in 14.1"??

Would be really nice to see a Dell Studio 14.

Hi everyone, thought I'd make my first post to announce the (very) recent order of my new laptop.

Phoned Dell up before and threw together this -

    2.4GHz processor
    3GB RAM
    320GB hard drive
    WLED screeen
    Backlit keyboard
    Bluetooth and bluetooth mouse
All the usual gubbins as well all wrapped up in a nice plum purple case.

Used a code from a Dell catalogue which expires at midnight to get £110 off, making the total cost £715.

Was told to expect delivery on the 1st August, so will pop up some pictures (especially of the screen and keyboard) when I calm down enough and stop fiddling with it.

Finally I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for posting such detailed information and opinion on the Studio, I've been lurking for a while now (was planning to get a M1530 until the Studio came out) and as someone who likes to know as much as possible about what he's buying this place has been an incredibly valuable resource.

A world of diference IMO my friend...

14.1" is almost the perfect size for a laptop just surpassed by the 13.3" laptops, again, thats just my opinion, I guess that Dell is not offering a version of this laptop in that screen size just because LCD's in that aspect ratio are more expensive these days...

My laptop (in sig) is a great desktop replacement, but I've discovered that when you want lets say... I dont know, put it on your lap is a lot more unconfortable that a 14 or 13" laptop...

I really like the design of Studio laptops, but if Dell doesn't release a version of this laptop in 14.1" I would not buy for my disgrace...

Wow, I completely agree with your statement. My past two laptops were 14.1", one 4:3 Dell 600m and the other was widescreen. I feel that 14.1 is the perfect blend between easy portability, good screen real estate, and good enough to use on a day to day basis.

My 13.3" screen is very good, but I couldn't imagine anything smaller. It's great, because like you said - it makes the computer very mobile. I had a 15.4" Inspiron 8600 about 3.5 years ago and loved it. Sold it simply because it was too big to tote around all the time. Looking back, I regret that decision because the laptop was built FAR better than the 600m that replaced it.

With all that said, I think my next laptop may be a larger 15.4" because of the higher resolutions you can typically get with the computers.

Many 13.3" (although this is a pretty niche size), and 14.1" screens have 1280x800. Which is fine for almost everything, but I sometimes miss my SWXGA+ from my 600m.

That's exactly what I mean. Anything smaller than 13.3" is just to tinny for my taste, and anything bigger than 14.1" is perfect to be a desktop replacement. That said, my next laptop is going to be a 14.1" and if my budget allows it, an 13" like the Toshiba U405.

Nice spec, tbh I really only got the extra processor as I had the money spare (upgrading from my old Turion TL-60). Part of me also wishes that I got the 6 cell battery, as I cant find them ANYWHERE to buy!

I ordered mine on the Aug 1st and it arrived to my house on the 14th so I'm really happy with it! Pretty quick delivery because I didn't except my Studio 15 to arrive until the 25th.

Do I need to update anything from dell.com for Studio 15? I know there are some issues that need to be fixed.
