If you are talking to me...I am ordering a 7200RPM hard drive from NewEgg which I thought may heat it up some but I really don't know that it will. Currently, the temp is running pretty cool. Is this wht you are talking about or do I need to reread the forum?? :)

What I meant was when you ordered the notebook, did Dell give you a message that some parts might be delayed when you were building it?

Well if it's the software, then that could be fine. B/c the software only enhances the audio. With the software it still has the original sound card in it, but with just some added software.

but my exp was worst with females in dell. may be i need to try once again. but one for sure everyone have different answer there. they will send my notebook by road but on my quotation it's mentioned delivery by AIR.

they saying it can't be like that we provide only by road in India then why the hell they are using By AIR and ROAD both in Delivery Type

I am not sure what info you need...but...

So far, I have only installed Photoshop CS2 onto my machine. Whatever was on it when I got it is still there. I will be running Visual Studio, Photoshop and possibly some graphic software for graphic design. I am running Vista as well. Is this what you need to know??

I believe choy is asking if you reformatted your notebook, but judging from what you just said, you did not. Also, the processes he's wondering about would be the bloatware (the stuff Dell installs for you on top of Vista) and I guess you still have it all installed...

Yes, I see now. No, I haven't done a re-install of Vista although I think I would like to. I see the 'Dell' stuff attached to a lot of things. As you can tell, this is something I have never done so I may wait on that until I get the new HDD. Also, I see too waht he means by processes. I can check that this evening and maybe compare to the reveiw that was posted earlier.

    Thanks!

Well, I just placed my order:

    Jet Black Dell 1720
    Inspiron 1720, Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2.0GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache
Glossy, high contrast widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440 x 900)
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600
    160G 5400RPM SATA hard drive
    8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
    Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0

I ended up getting it for $1644 shipped w/coupon. I'm pretty well pleased with what I'm getting for my money. One question I have, though, is whether or not the screen I got is the TrueLife one. Does anyone know? Also, since I asked for mine to come with no preinstalled software (save for the antivirus stuff, which I couldn't see a way around), is there still going to be a lot of bloatware? I only ask because I don't want to have to reformet the hard drive.

I ordered the TrueLife and my order says the same thing. It should be fine. You will probably still have all the bloatware, but reloading shouldn't take but an hour or so.

I talked to someone from Dell today. She said AAFES make up shipping dates sometimes. She wasn't sure why they do that. Anyhow, it looks like I'm back at an ESD of 8/30. Bummer...

    Edit:
I also waited on the phone for 30 minutes to add the Creative Express card and possibly upgrade my video card and monitor. I hung up. I'm not real pleased with Dell right now.

OH MY GOSH! I just tried to go through making a change to my system again. This time, the guy is asking me for my info again, so I tell him "All this should be in the system from the last 8 times I have told you". He replies "That great!" Finally he transfers me to someone and she says I will have to cancel my order and reorder. All I wanted was the Creative card added! I told her if I cancel my order, I will buy from someone else. She then transered me to a different sales division and gives me some speal about friends or family that would want to order to give them her number and extension. Yeah I'll get right on that! Just what I want to do, put my loved ones through this type of garbage! After waiting on hold for 15 min, I hung up.

Dell, I hate talking to foreigners over the phone about this garbage! I want to talk to someone born and raised in the USA. Most people from other countries think differently than us, we have language barriers (such as telling me something is great when it's obviously not), and just the poor service we seem to receive on overseas support calls makes this so frustrating. All this and I haven't even received my computer from you yet!

Ok guys, I'm off my soap box. I don't know if I'm making this harder than it has to be or if I'm just supposed to be more patient or I'm just unlucky, but man I'm beginning to regret my purchase.

That's what I thought would happen. I called during the day just for that reason and got someone from somewhere else. Maybe I called too late. It was almost 5:00 I'm going to give up and just see what its like when I get it. If I don't like it, back it goes.

I wonder if the colored lids will be available later on if I want to change it.

I'm annoyed that its at the DHL facility less than a mile from my house and they aren;t going to deliver it until Tuesday. DHL apparently said that Dell won't allow them to have customers come in and pick it up until they attempt a delivery first.

If DHL is smart want to look good in the eyes of the consumer, shouldn't they estimate the delivery the then deliver it early? that's what always happen with my Fed Ex and UPS deliveries. Guess that is just a reminder of why I will never use DHL to ship

My 1721 came on the 17th, after shipping on only the 15th. I ordered on the 6th, too. I must have had some good luck, I didn't get caught up in any of the Dell delays that so many other people did. I ordered Jet Black before if became one of the delayed colors, and got almost no extra options other than the 9-cell battery and the DVD burner.

Have to say that so far, I love this machine! This is my first laptop coming from a lifetime of building my own desktops, and I'm loving it so far. I haven't really found anything yet about this laptop that I don't like, I'm very pleased. I'm definitely going to be ordering another power cord though, so I can be plugged in while at my desk in my office or out in the great room.

Can you paint by the numbers or follow the dots, Bukket? And are you REALLY SATISFIED with the continual and extending delays on your laptop?

If you read the entire article I linked, it talks about how Dell makes "excuses" for its falsified financial statements over the past three years in part due to insufficient staffing in its financial department... From what I've been following in this thread -- including the continual delays in the shipment of your very "Flamingo Pink" notebook, it appears "insufficient staffing" is more of a company-wide issue at Dell...

If you need more elaboration, click on the talkback link to the article and see the longer posting I made in the Talkback that refers to this thread.

Wow, it seems Dell is finally shipping those 1720s, I got mine a couple days ago and am definitely happy with it. Reformatted it to get rid of all the bloatware but I love how fast Vista installs though, like three times as fast as XP. I hope all the students get their laptops before college!

OK, so if I want to make my system game proof for the next year or so, I will have to cancel and reorder. This will cost me $155 extra for the upgrade/reorder to the 256MB card as prices have changed for my current configuration. Does anyone think this is a good idea? Its mostly for school and accounting stuff, but I do want to be able to game on it. I wonder if I should just leave my desktop for gaming and upgrade it instead. It will cost more, but laptops aren't known for being good gamers.

Any help on this will be appreciated.
