It will, but you can just uninstall it or disable it in startup items.

I give up on the recovery USB, and downloaded a windows 10 iso. Created a bootable USB with Rufus and it works. Already fresh install windows 10 on the Dell and windows 10 just activated.
The downside is I seem lost the original copy of Office 2013, and I don't have the product key for Office. -
I installed Windows 10. Also upgraded bios to A09 (I did not read previous posts against it, and have the touch to continue booting bug!)
I am using a Samsung SSD 850 EVO and am stuck with SATA 1 instead of SATA 2.
Am I facing hardware problems?
It's a Dell 3147 with the N3530.

so the dell touch pad driver sucks...any information on how to install the correct synaptics drivers?
-
Is there any way to give Dell feedback on this issue? Since my warranty has expired, my only option is to call them but I don't feel like wasting more time on this BS. -
-
I did a clean install of windows 8 a while back, then upgraded to windows 10 when it came out. I've had some issues with the laptop screen not coming on after the dell logo lately. I can tell the screen is on (slight shimmer on black screen), but it is basically dark. Pressing the power button can shut the screen off, but the laptop doesn't boot up with pressing the power button. It takes many attempts of the power button. Took about 20-25 minutes to get it to boot up.
Currently the laptop boots fine. I can't replicate the issue.
I think the laptop is making it past POST. The ePSA tests don't fail.
Do I bother using the Dell diagnostics if I don't even have a Dell image anymore? I'm trying it anyways, but it seems stuck on "Updating Dell system Detect".
The only upgrade I have installed is a Samsung SSD. -
Don't press Power, press any keyboard key. e.g. space bar.tjohn99 likes this. -
Looks like Dell finally released a new Dell Touchpad driver to fix this problem.
-
EDIT: Dumb of me. Just read a few posts above. However, unlike the poster above, I've continued to have this issue.
I did some searching, but couldn't find the exact issue I'm facing, at least not with some of the keywords I used to search.
Anyway, I had been using the Inspiron 3137 model. I wanted the 3147 model because of the IPS screen. Side-by-side, it's not even close in regard to quality. On that front, it's worthwhile.
However, in anticipation of selling the 3137 I've been using, I took the Samsung Evo 850 SSD I had installed in it and installed it in the 3147 model. Wiped clean, windows 10 clean install. No issues. Then I did some Windows Updates. It will not boot into Windows anymore. It hits the Dell start screen with the spinning circular dots, then it switches to another Dell start screen that looks almost identical, but it looks lower res and the spinning dots look like they're going by at a much lover fps rate. Then it just goes to a black screen. The backlight is on. Nothing further. I reinstalled 10, same thing. Reset from advanced startup. Same thing. Avoided windows updates. On a reboot it does the same thing. Updated the BIOS even though a few here warned not to. SAME THING.
Kind of annoyed. Maybe I'll try 8.1 to see if it helps. I'll try and downgrade the BIOS if someone thinks that will help. Any words of advice?Last edited: Jan 11, 2016 -
During the black screen what happens it you press the space bar?
-
-
New touchpad driver seems to fix the issue. Now to downgrade the BIOS to A07. Hopefully it's just as easy as booting into Safe Mode and running it.

Heya guys - since latest Realtek HD Audio driver, I've started having problems. When I run any kind of audio playback (youtube, mp3, even movies) I get a sudden spike of 100% CPU usage because of Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation. I've tried reinstalling drivers multiple times, letting Windows load the default drivers (the only ones that do not cause the problem) but the goddamn automatic update just keeps installing the newest audio drivers, which are driving me crazy. Nothing I googled doesn't seem to help. Do you have any suggestion?

No other perfect options I'd found. I've tried every solution - disabled effects, changed registry settings.
One solution to fix exactly this behavior - high cpu usage - to install latest realtek "driver only" driver. But there is a catch - this perfect piece of software called Maxx Audio will make sound much louder without changing system volume. It goes like this - you start to play youtube video and suddenly it's too loud. If your usual volume is 20 - it will sound like you've had 30-40. If you will lower volume - it will instantly change back to "normal" - to 18 in that case. Until you close this source of audio and open a new one...
edit: maxx audio it isLast edited: Jan 24, 2016 -
hi, is there anyone who still has Dell's 3147 USB Recovery Media?
the links on post #93 aren't working anymore.
thanks. -

Now I'm still downloading the file from JesseKnows' link.
If the download failed I will try to send email to Dell support.. -

Good day!
My English is not the best, I'm sorry. So I take advantage of the translator.
My question is - does not work the left side of the keyboard, keys 1QAZ.
dell 3147, install win 8.1 , win 10 (1511), New driver from Dell site installed.
In safe mode, the keyboard works. Bios was the A07 and A09. Problem still exists.
I would be grateful for your help! -
I hope this helps! Best wishes for successful repair. Let us know what happens.
EDIT: I don't understand why your keyboard works OK in Safe Mode unless one of your drivers is bad. Dell is known for releasing bad drivers and then having to fix them, so I'm always slow to update BIOS or drivers if the old ones are working well. Maybe you can try rolling back the keyboard driver to the previous version?
Dell's online diagnostic test did not detect a problem with my keyboard. If your 3147 is still under warranty, you probably should call Dell Tech Support and let them diagnose and repair it. If the warranty has expired, you might need to buy a replacement keyboard, but let's be sure your drivers are all OK first.
Let us know your progress!Last edited: Mar 18, 2016alexnasa likes this. -

I've personally seen 3 KB failures on our two 3147's. One arrived with a bad KB and touchpad, so I returned the laptop for a new one. The KB on the replacement laptop failed about 8 months later. Dell tech broke the daughterboard on mine when they replaced my keyboard, so it had to go back again for that. My brother also had to replace his KB. I wonder how long our replacements will last.
I'm sure by now that Dell has received numerous complaints about the 3147. There should be a general recall on these laptops, but of course Dell will never acknowledge their faulty product, nor test their drivers before releasing them!
The warranty expired 2 weeks ago on both of our 3147's. I'm using mine very gently until I can buy a better quality laptop. We have several Dell laptops and desktop PCs. All of our older Dells still work well. All our newer ones have had hardware and driver problems from the start. After this I'm "Done with Dell" ! -
It ended guarantee. -
Thinking about getting one of these. I want the SSD but Dell has a long wait time for it to ship. I will be using it for office apps, email, and web browsing. Anywhere else have these for sale with a good price and SSD?
Edit - just ordered an open box 11 3000. 2.4 GHz, 128 GB SSD, 8GB Ram, Windows 10Last edited: Mar 21, 2016 -

I'm about to throw this 3147 in the trash, M$ is crazy to continue forced updates of 10 not letting us stay on a stable build if we want to, well you can sort of, I;m rolling back the Nov 1511 build and then blocking it with the tool from M$ but that prob will not stop future build that may break the laptop again!
Whats broke? Unusable touchpad, Speakers, acceleromter, all worked till A09 then the 1511 build made sure. WHY? I really have to think about getting a new laptop from another builder -
Hi DRFP, I think a lot of the frustration you're experiencing is due to the confluence of the half-baked mess called Windows 10, its forced updates, and Dell's apparent inability to keep up with drivers that might actually work whenever Microsoft issues yet another build. (The A09 BIOS debacle is inexcusable.)
Until Win 10 became the hot new thing, the previously released Dell BIOS and drivers were working in Win 8.1. Then Microsoft pushed Win 10 out prematurely, lots of people jumped (or were carried by GWX) on the band wagon, and every major Win10 update has forced Dell and other PC manufacturers to hurry up and release new drivers to keep their products running on the latest build of Win 10.
It's all a big mess, and I'm not touching it. I don't like Win 8.1 but I'm staying with it for now (blocking Win10) and dual-booting with Linux, at least until MS and Dell learn to play well together. My little lappie is running just fine this way, and I can get things done without fighting with it and worrying that the next update will break something overnight.
If you want to stay with your current build of Win 10, that Microsoft "tool" is probably the least effective way to block forced updates. MS wants you to update; why would they block their own product? It's just a lame effort to calm the masses. Use your google-fu instead to find some independent Win 10 forums full of folks who like to dig deep into these issues and then share their skills with the rest of us. And turn off the Dell Update service. You can check for them when something seems not quite right, ask other owners about new ones before installing, and make your own choice whether or not to download & install or roll back a driver. General rule: don't be an early adopter if you'd rather use your PC than spend your time fixing it.
You're not alone in your struggle, and it's not just Dell or this model laptop that has problems scrambling to work around the growing pains of Win 10. I'm sure there are a lot of people asking the same questions as you on the various Win 10 user forums, and a lot of tech-smart folks are working on solutions. See the many Win 10 threads on the My Digital Life forum, for instance.
Don't give up just yet! -

Am i the only one having issues about browsing using google chrome in this laptop? especially if i'm using it for facebook, the lag on this laptop really annoys me, and if ever how can i improve its performance without having to buy and install new hardwares? the ram(which is the default, 4gb ddr3) and the cpu(also default, intel pentium N3540 2.16 GHz) kicks in often at 100% especially the cpu, me almost not doing anything really heavy in my opinion, just some web browsing, opening multiple tabs, youtube, just some basic applications. i would really appreciate any help from you guys regarding this matter. thanks!
btw i'm using the avast antivirus since the one preinstalled already expiredDRFP likes this. -
I do not use Chrome but I had similar issues with FireFox where browsing seemed very slow and laggy when using a lot of tabs particular some heavy AD filled pages.
It turned out that Linkification was causing the slow downs. I turned off all the options except for show Linkify in the context menu so that I could still use it when needed. My browsing experience improved immensely.
BTW, I have handed down my one year old 3147 to my son and have purchased a new 3157 (i3000-10099slv), Pentium N3700, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive for $299 at Staples. It is slightly faster than the 3147 (PCMark 1875) and has two USB 3.0 ports. It also came with Windows 10 version 1511 edition with an option to defer Windows Updates. -
Oh the HP cost me 399 refurbished on ebay with the upgraded full HD screen -
The HP Spectre X360 13 with the I7 is my power machine. It is well designed and constructed. I have had no issues with it: no bluescreens, no hangs, nothing. Battery life is up to 10 hours.
My new Dell 3157 (Pentium N3700, 4GB RAM, 500GB drive, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port) has been solid and is my carry around the house machine. The size, weight, battery life are great for this purpose. It only cost $299 new from Staples. Unfortunately, the price went back up this week.DRFP likes this. -
Dell released new A10 BIOS. Anyone tested it?
-
-
On A07 my 3147 can go to sleep after one click power button. On A10 this feature do not working. Why?!
-
-
I have this settings as always. Sleep on A07 working, on A10 not
Never, ever buy Dell laptop again.
-
As far as Avast, I have found that it takes some resources and does slow the laptop down. It may also be unnecessary because Windows 10 comes with Defender anti-virus built in. Try uninstalling Avast and see if laptop performs better. -
Anyone know how to install original Realtek Audio Drivers on our 3147 (NOT Dell Audio)?
-
- I upgraded from A02 to A10 and have the same issue. Power button no longer registers under windows 10. Tried changing "Choose what the power button does" with no effect. Tried reinstalling chipset and input drivers from Dell, but the issue persists. The power button works fine from boot, just not Windows. This looks like a BIOS/driver bug to me...
-
-
I just updated to A10, seems OK. I am thinking to downgrade to Windows 7, anyone have any luck doing this? Cause I tried and I got blue screen while it's preparing the installation process, and a message goes : The Bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant
Any clues? -
A10 here... no problem with power button triggering sleep.
-
There is now an A08 BIOS claiming to be newer than A10.
what to make of this now? -
LOL, so Dell finally discovered America and saw that A09 and A10 are bugged. Now we have A08.
-
Well I took a gamble and installed the "New" A08 bios released June 2016 but it might just be the old one they had to pull before. When I check my system information, its dated 8/12/15? Well at least everything seems ok!
-
But anyone else who might want to "upgade" from A10 to A08, beware!

So, I just installed windows 10 fresh on my wife's 3147. Everything great except sleep wouldn't work. Noticed the ahci driver was microsoft generic standard driver. Finally found a working chipset driver here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=GK1HC It will warn that a newer driver is installed, but tell it to install anyway. It identified the chipset ahci driver correctly and sleep works perfectly now.

Now we again have A09 on 3147 Dell site. What the hell Dell?
