Hi, Please tell me if you 3147 is the Celeron or Intel CPU version. Also, I would like to know if your system recognizes the 8GB of memory and if it using it. I will appreciate your input.

I installed 8 GB memory and Windows said there was 8 GB of memory, but looking at task manager I could see that the machine was only actually using 4 GB so I took it out and returned it.

Hey, i see you are facing a lot of problem due to high disk usage of your system that many times leads to lagging.Well i have the solution to your problem i found this link on internet..really a helping article http://errorcodespro.com/tiworker-exe-high-disk-usage-windows/. At begining i thought it was because of hard drive failure but i applied the solution it worked very well. You can find your solution at the given system.

I dont know how everyone is changing their drives. Mine came with a 500GB drive and I tried to replace with a 1TB drive but the bottom of the case wouldn't close because the drive was a fraction thicker than the original drive. Anyone have a problem like this? How can I be sure the drive I purchase is the right thickness?

Yes you have to buy the thin drives. My firecuda is the "thin" drive, therefore it fits no issue. Plus I get a very noticeable speed increase with it.

I inherited an Inspiron 11 3148 and was excited for abit! Good size. Handy. Great on the move. Now it's a nightmare as the touchscreen wouldn't work at all ... Dell factory recovery to 8.1 .. no go. Fresh installation to 8.1 .. no go. Fresh installation to Win10 .. no go. All drivers are current, I can rotate the laptop and the touchpad will disable by itself but no touch detected. There is no HID Touch Compliant Screen in Device Manager. I read somewhere that in Win10 the touchscreen is purely an USB device under Mice & Pointing .. nothing there. No touch drivers on the website either.

The only clue that I have is that there is a pesky error under USB - probably the touchscreen controller is faulty. I sat through an hour worth of elementary troubleshooting with Dell and they too assume that the touchscreen is faulty.

Any thoughts from the gurus appreciated .. I bought a replacement screen off ebay for a steal anyway and hope it works out. P/s: The quote from Dell is atrocious - I can buy a new 3147/48 with change to spare.

hmmmm. sounds like a hardware problem. Let us know how the new screen works. if it does not help....theres something software related you are not seeing. I have an issue with an old acer I own where I cannot scroll with the touchpad.....I tried everything. and nothing available.

Stupid Microsoft. The Windows 10 1803 breaks the Synaptics Touchpad driver again, and it looks like some models from other manufacturers also has the same issue.

Does the touch pad still work, or not at all. usually MS has a driver for most every touchpad. Also, goto synaptics, and try downloading the driver direct from their site.

It still works but it doesn't have any function, and you would have to drag your finger across the whole Touchpad for the cursor to move like half an inch. Did, their latest March driver says you don't need to install Synaptics driver.

i got a new to me Dell Inspiron 11 3147 (Quad core with 4Gb of Ram and 500Gb hard drive) and it has a screwed up copy of Windows 8.1 on it. somebody deleted the recovery partition and system restore doesnt work either (says files are missing).

in Post 93 on page 10 the links are dead to the Mega for the USB image. does anybody have a the Windows 8.1 factory USB image from mega they could reupload to mega so i can download it?

    TIA.

You can probably still get the ISO from Microsoft:

Get the Microsoft ISO to USB utility. That makes an installable USB from the ISO.
