they would never do that once you already placed the order. That moment when you click the button, it's like "got cha" moment for you. You should just either cancel it and reorder a new one or get both then pray the discounted one is good so you can return the other one.

    PC Model: Dell Inspiron 7537
    SSD: Corsair GTX 480Gb
OS: Windows 8.1 cloned from the original HDD onto the SSD (I think I upgraded to 8.1 after moving to SSD)
    BIOS: A05
    CPU: i7 4500U
    RAM: 8GB

No issues so far with the SSD, booting or anything else major.

Aldo: You can search back on my posts from this thread about what I tried before getting the cloning to work. But from what I remember in short the biggest issue I had was the fact that very few pieces of software allow cloning to a smaller drive i.e. I moved from 1Tb to 480Gb. I only minimised the partition sizes with Partition Assistant to minimise wasted space on the SSD. Partition Assistant wouldn't clone/image to a smaller drive, I think it also had issues with GPT disks. Same problem with the Corsair software and I think I looked at some other software too. Acronis was recommended to me and it worked nicely, shame its not free.

I have ordered the same Samsung 840 EVO 500GB. I will receive it tomorrow, and will try a clean install. Let's hope everything goes well... Because the current HDD is really a dog.
I will get back to you all with my experience.
    Best,

Thank you for your feedback, I have added your details to the common spreadsheet.

Yeah, that'd be great to at least try to isolate the issue. Thanks.

There is nothing to update, as you can see from the download page: Samsung SSD (Solid State Drive) 840 series | Samsung SSD Website
The only update is dated May 2013.

Yeah, it's at about 140 € on Amazon. I am really tempted to return the Pro and get the EVO. Are the performance similar?

Pro should be a bit better, but nothing noticiable, htough, as far as I have read in some reviews.
500 GB for 140€... I suppose you are refering to the 256 GB, right? 500 Gb around 285 Euros.

    Hi Guys,

im new here and had since yesterday the same issue.

    PC Model: Dell Inspiron 7537
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, latest Firmware (cloned and built-in yesterday)
OS: Windows 8.0 Core x64 OEM cloned from the original HDD onto the SSD with Samsung Migration
    BIOS: A05
    CPU: i7 4500U
    RAM: 8GB

Today i have the issue: No bootdevice found...
This sucks! What's going on? This is the Samsung Top-model and i thouht it is already built-in in the 16 GB SSD Inspirion?
Is there a fix in progress, or must i buy another SSD-Type???

Sorry - my english is not so good!

yes, there is a inspiron 7537 model with 16 GB ram and a OEM Samsung SSD built in.
I ordered this configuration but i haven´t my laptop yet.

It seems that everyone who has SSD issues has a non OEM DELL SSD Samsung.
    Maybe that is the pattern.

Most likely that's because of the lack of options to upgrade - you used to be able to mix and match much more when buying from Dell now they have pretty much only fixed configurations.

Another reason is that there is no guarantee that you'll get the OEM Samsung, machines may come with another brand - I know because I specifically asked before buying and they said they couldn't not promise what SSD would be in it.

I hope mine come with samsung ssd.

It seem like retail Samsung 840 series and Dell are not definitely a good marriage

So I returned my Nvidia + SSD model for an integrated only model and I'm a little concerned to be reading all these reports of issues after an SSD swap. I have an Samsung 840 Evo 250GB that I bought to replace the hard drive... hoping I don't run into any problems...

Edit: And I did see that it's mainly the 840 Pro that's running into issues, but still concerning.

Will do. My laptop doesn't ship until the middle of the month.

One question... I believe that the Dell Recovery software gave me the option to create a recovery flash drive. Has anyone tried using that when moving to a new drive rather than using the clone software? I'm wondering if that will work since you're moving to a smaller drive...

I'm wondering if it's worth contacting dell about the £100 discount they're offering this week for 7537. My laptop just shipped the other day, and paid full price.

Could the problem be related to the Samasung PRO model, the EVO looks fine (there's only one example - , very low stat!)
We definitely need to understand what is going on....
Paulthuong, do you confirm all is fine with your SSD?

I hope so, but it's kind of hard, as the 840 Pro is probably the best selling SSD nowadays, so this kind of issue should have been found on different machines as well...

I wonder if it's related to the fact that the stock SSD option is the OEM version of the same drive.

I've received mine today, and tomorrow will receive my 840 pro 256GB xD, that make me nervous...
I see on the document https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...RGaW0waUg2clFjS3NNbER5TWc&usp=drive_web#gid=0 that all laptop haviing this have been updated to A5 bios, mine still A4, gonna try with this one.

But, have someone try to reinstall a system (linux, windows) above the ssd (without format) and see if it happens again ?

I ordered mine with the OEM 256 GB SSD. I haven't received it yet.
Hopefully, the SSD problem is restricted to the Samsung 840 Pro.

Either way, I'll update you when I receive the laptop: expected delivery is next Wednesday, but it's still "in production", so no guaranties I'll have it by then.

Has anyone else here received the laptop with the 256GB SSD model? Any issues?

    According to this it is:

Review Dell Inspiron 15-7537 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

But it's an OEM model of the Pro. There could be slight differences.

I'm also noticing a pattern that everyone with the Pro (and thus everyone with the issue) has a 256GB model while the Evo/Corsair reports are ~500GB drives. My drive is a 250GB Evo so if I have the issue too that could provide some more insight...

I can have access to a Toshiba Q series 512Go SSD, that would be a very nice test (not Samsung, not 500Go) but it's 9.5mm. Do you think it will fit?
I understand the original HDD is also 9.5mm thick so it should be OK but on the other hand most of the SSDs are 7mm (including all the one documented in the spreadsheet). What do you think?

Well, obviously I hope that it works for me.

Just so I'm clear, in order to test this I need to...

    - Migrate my installation to the SSD (whether through a fresh install or the Samsung Migration tool)
    - Use the laptop normally for about a week

And within a week or so I should get a Boot Device Not Found error?

OK I clearly dont have as much technical knowledge as a lot of folks on this forum, but I have been doing a bit of research on this.

It seems that versions that come with the OEM drive are fine while the user purchased versions seem to fail super quickly.

Is there a possibility that the problem is with TRIM, and the BIOS not detecting the user installed drives correctly and not enabling TRIM, but the pre-installed version coming with it set to on?

I believe not activating TRIM when switching from HDD to SSD can cause some corruption issues, which Im guessing could extend to the boot sectors?

Im well aware that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but Im just thinking out loud!

That actually makes a lot of sense with people seeing it about once a week. Windows will auto-TRIM the drive at about that interval and if it was somehow failing I could imagine that it would cause some kind of corruption.

You could test this by optimizing the drive in Windows (and you could check there if it was recognizing it as an SSD) or running sudo fstrim -v in Ubuntu and seeing if the drive works after it's complete.
