Mind if I ask how close your laptop is to the router? What kind of speeds you're getting? How fast is your internet plan?

    Thanks!

For those having wifi issues, have you tried increasing the strenght in the driver's properties? By default, it is in "3.Medium", but you can increase it to 5.Maximum. Maybe it can help. Give it a try.

The router is downstair and about 30ft away from my room. If i stay in my room, the speed is about 30mbs down and 5mbs up. If I sit right next to it, speed is 45-50mbs down, up is the same. That's seems about right with my normal $50 RCN subscription.

Hi i recently ordered a Dell Inspiron 15-7537 and was going to install my 500GB Samsung 840 non pro which is currently installed in a Sony Vaio and been working perfectly for about a year now so from reading through this thread about 840 errors with the Dell Inspiron 15-7537...i might not.

Has anyone got a 840(not the EVO) working with no errors on the Dell Inspiron 15-7537?

Thanks for the info. This gives me some hope. I won't cancel my order - I'll just wait and see.

I'll let you guys know as soon as I receive it. But it's been "in production" for two weeks now, so it's being delayed.

I don't know that anyone has tried it, but as a comparison between the three...

    Basic
    Controller: MDX
    NAND: TLC

    Pro
    Controller: MDX
    NAND: MLC (2-level)

    Evo
    Controller: MEX
    NAND: TLC

I would really doubt that the issue was in the NAND type, since MLC (2-level) has been around longer than TLC. I would think it is much more likely that it's an odd incompatibility with the controller, and since the Pro and Basic use the same controller while the Evo uses a new one, you would (likely) run into the issue.

I've also been testing an hp envy 15t-j100, which has the same wifi card (the intel n-7260). I'm having the exact same fluctuations in speed and degradation of signal as I move from the router in both the hp and the dell 7537. My older xps and the inspiron 3521 I have here have no problems at all - the signal stays constant and strong.

Has anyone else had issues assigning programs to use the nvidia card?

At present I can't assign many things at all to use nvidia. In the control panel I can add an executable file (.exe) but the drop-down box in stage 2 under the title "select the preferred graphics processor for this program" just says integrated graphics for most programs. Is this just that integrated graphics will run that specific program as well as the nvidia card or is something else wrong?

I have no games currently on the laptop, I'm trying to assign Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 to use the nvidia card but it is not happening. The only things I can assign at present to the nvidia card seem to be Adobe Illustrator and Google Earth.

I've been trying really hard to love this laptop, but for me, the only thing it seems to have going for it is it's display. Was just trying to watch a youtube video and it was buffering so slowly I thought it had crashed at one point. The video looked like I was watching it underwater for the majority of the time it was playing. I was playing same video on the hp and it was never as clear and crisp as it was on the hp. If I hadn't had them side by side, I would've thought it was just a poor quality video, but the difference was striking. Also, the sound is horrible - very flat and tinny. And I seem to be having more and more problems with the touchpad not responding properly. I've been playing with the settings, but it's still not quite right.

I think his issue was more with the streaming quality, which would be related to the wireless performance, than the screen.

Yeah, I also got troubled by the "underwater" thing, thought it was the picture which was bad due to the screen (but as he said he loved it just before ... my brain lagged).

Hope the drivers will solve the problems...

Update: the wifi issue has ported my laptop harbor. Down is now only 3-5mbs!
Update 2: After more than 2 hrs with a Dell technician struggling with all the typical: diagnosis and driver checkings blah blah. I just went ahead uninstalling the whole driver in Device manager and do a reboot. After that, the laptop automatically recognized the drivers and installed everything it needed. THANK GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDd it is back to normal now. THANKKKKKKKK GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD, and I mean it!

It seems like there are a lot of issued with this laptop that are fixable through updates or whatever, perhaps we should put together a list, for easy reference, this thread is getting pretty long in the tooth and it would be nice to refer to a specific post or a google doc with all the drivers that need changing and their number and whatever needs turning off etc.

No, it is NOT normal! You should call them to confirm everything is ok ASAP. It normally stays in pre-production for no more than one business day.

On an only somewhat related note, mine has been "in production" for more than two weeks. I think it's being delayed.

Mines been in pre-production for about 4 days. Bog standard, top spec 15" model. No SSD option as it's not offered currently in the UK as far as I could see (still would have preferred the 17" R SE for sheer value and spec).

Estimated shipping date on or before 27th December. Not sure how it takes over 3 weeks for a standard model in their range to be shipped?

3 days or so it lasted this time before got tempted to restart my computer and BAM I got the "no boot device...." - switched my Samsung 840 PRO for an older Crucial I had laying around, fingers crossed that it will work better.

No, but some people think so because on the US dell site it is listed as an option for the "big" model, everywhere else it says SSD Sata - I'm confident that the US site is just a mistake.
