Has anyone had the Intel 7260 swapped out for a Dell DW1901 yet? Is the different wireless card any better?

for those who have wifi card replaced...how it was? a guy from dell came at your home and replace it or you had to send it to service for this replacement?

I ask this because in my city there aren't any dell stores or authorized service.

You can fix the screen not turning on after it goes blank by downloading the latest drivers from Intel.com for graphics card

Okay guys, here are some news about the wifi (good or bad?)
I've poped out the ****ty 7260 wifi card and replace it with a 2 years old intel wireless n-130 (coming from another laptop of mine).
And yes, now i can get up to 1 Mo/s (like always with this card) where I've got around 300 ko/s with the 7260, I can now watch youtube HD video without lag, overall connectivity is good too, so don't hesitate to call Dell to get the card replaced, even if you got decent speed, cause you'll notice it only where signal is poor.
I'm gonna contact Dell to get it replaced.

Well I finally received my 7537 yesterday and went straight out to test my 500gb basic Samsung 840 which failed the next day with "boot device not found in machine". Back in with the 1TB HDD until another SSD can be tested.

    PC Model: Dell Inspiron 7537
    SSD: Samsung 840 500Gb
OS: Windows 8 OEM (Samsung magician clone)
    BIOS: came with AO5
    CPU: i7-4500U
    RAM: 8GB

Thanks for reporting that pepperortiz, I can't be bothered to wait for a Dell engineer to show up so I've ordered a DW1901 (only about £13) and will fit it myself.

    2. For the ones who opened the laptop, have you noticed any seal which could cancel the warranty in case i open it? I would like to change the wireless card but we don't have Dell here in my country and i would like to change it by myself at home.

    Thank you.

There is no seal on the wi-fi, I took it out t some point to make sure it was a standard card, it's super easy to replace - just remove one screw, the card will pop up you can pull it out, now take off the two antenna cables and it's out.

Hey all, well I'm posting from my machine now. I'm loving the screen, touch is awesome. I have one question about the fan noise, it's hard to tell whether this is normal but I notice a small rattling with the fan when playing games for 30 minutes or so (under load) is this standard?

If you are having problems with the wifi (disconnection/connection limited), try installing the driver from the INTEL website NOT the dell website. I have had no problems ever since I did that.

Also have anybody tried gaming with this laptop? Is it normal for the cpu temp to be around 70 degrees (playing Saint Row 4)? Its weird, cuz my GPU temp runs cool but my CPU is always running hot.

Keep going further back in the thread, I had mSATA confirmed by Dell in early October, and an mSATA slot shows in an image of the service manual. We will never really know until it gets opened up properly.

    Re: mSATA - Having both a HDD and SSD - Post# 996

Thank you, majoho. This thread is moving very fast!

I don't understand hardware too well and may not make much sense at times.

With what the Dell support says about it being possible to have both drives together (both in India and US), am wondering if it is possible that there are two configurations of the machine in the market - one which supports 2 drives and another which doesn't. Seems it has happened in the past.

    Please refer to this post:
Installing mSATA card on Inspiron 15R special edition (7520) - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community

Extract from the above post about a different inspiron model:
    -----------------------

It is also surprising that they would provide the two drive option in the physically smaller 14" model, and not have it in the more spacious 15" model, especially since they seem to have the same motherboard.

The India site now shows the model with a 1Tb Hybrid Drive with an 8Gb Cache. Maybe I should just go ahead with it, keeping my fingers crossed that the Dell engineers are right ...

    Hi everyone, newbie here.

I've had my Inspiron 7537 for a couple of days now (8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive, Full HD touch screen) and have just noticed an issue with the spacebar on the keyboard. It is terrible. It only registers a keypress about half the time. It works best if you press it in the middle but the left and right sides do nothing unless you bash it very firmly. Pressing lightly in the middle sweet spot sometimes doesn't register. The rest of the keyboard is ok. Anyone having similar issues?

I've emailed Dell but I'm not sure what they will do. It definitley needs fixing.

Apart from that, everything else seems to work ok. I've had no issues with the WIFI. The only other little thing is that the screen seems to be giving me a bit of eyestrain but I guess I just need to get used to that.

    Thanks

I have the exact model but 500Gb for over a month now. Everything is working fine. Sometimes when starting up, it gets stuck with the Dell logo but that's not a big issue. So I guess Evo is the one to buy for now.
Question: I have 1.87 TB "total bytes written" after a month of usage. Is that high? I meant to post on thw SSD forum but I want to try my luck here for an answer first. Thanks

in the 899$ version with intel hd4400 graphic card can i put another video card like nvidia 750M? i mean does it have the socket? Because 1200$ version have both intel and nvidia cards which means that it can be possible.

Of course the 15R is a different computer. The point was about the "same" model being sold both WITH and option of mSATA and WITHOUT it. :)
Am writing this for others who read the thread and that they don't miss the point.

IIRC, in India, the 14" model of the series was available with the NVIDIA card before. Now it is without it. They also added a 32GB SSD to it now. There were i5 and i7 models before. Now, only i7. The i5 has also been removed from the 15" range. The i7 15" now has a hybrid drive.

so not all of the 15'' versions have nvidia card...the 899$ version with i7, 1TB HDD and 8GB RAM doesn't has, right? :( And if it is true, does it has a socket or something like that which allow me to put one? because i think it's possible if the 1200$ version has both graphic cards.

PS: The same 899$ configuration from USA is available in UK,France etc. with nvidia graphic card!!?! i don't understand! can someone help me? http://www.dell.com/fr/p/inspiron-15-7537/pd?oc=cn75305&model_id=inspiron-15-7537

i have the same wifi issue with my 7537...
tomorrow a technican from dell will come to repace my screen and wifi card. i hope this will solve the problem.
by the way they installed the wrong wifi card on my computer. It should be a dual band but i got a single band. I noticed a lot of people have the same wrong card like me so you better check this before you install the wrong drivers.

My 7537 came with the N-7260 and not the dual band version. I believe this to be the case with all of the USA spec. 7537's.
When the tech came out to replace the wireless card it was again replaced with the non dual band version which did not fix the problem.

Please be sure to post back here after the tech has left and let us know what you find.

Hmmm, I think they might have changed that then, I'm fairly sure they all used to come with the 750m - most people bought the middle version you mention.

On the Danish and Swedish site they still list the original configurations, I checked the UK and German sites and they has changed as well now only the top model has the 750m

Danish configurations here (with google translation) Google Translate

Well, it turns out that WiFi performance is quite ...random. It is excellent in some places/situations and almost non-existent in others (always compared to other devices). Even when signal strength is reported as good, sometimes it struggles to even load a website...

So, probably sending it back for a refund :(

I just ordered the Intel® Dual Band Wireless - AC 7260 from Amazon...

    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth-brief.pdf

I feel even though I already have great performance with proven speed results i have posted earlier in this thread, i still want 5ghz band capability which the current BGN 7260 that was packaged with my system doesn't offer. Yet my build sheet shows a Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 2x2 BGN + Bluetooth 4.0, listed.Again stupid Dell dropped the ball, there is no such card. This is what we have in our systems....

    http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/wireless-n-7260-bluetooth-brief.pdf

Props to Dell for letting us figure this stuff out, they should pay us. Oh wait I got my US configured 7537 that was $1,299 for $900 cause I returned 3 other crap laptops of theirs beforehand. I returned a 2012 XPS 15 due to horrible wifi speeds, a 15R SE cause it felt cheap, and a 7737 cause it had a 1600x900 screen, yet I paid for the 1920x1080 version. Dells QC is as bad as their tech support. Macbook Pro next time for sure. I sure do miss my old one.

I very much doubt this is true, if you want the 750m then it's probably best to save more and buy the model that comes with it, we've already had misinformation from Dell about the 15" model having mSata (which it doesn't).

I have problems with it dropping connection (so I'll be swapping it out), but it's definitely a dual band card. There's a lot of problems with Intel's current family of wireless cards by the looks of things https://communities.intel.com/community/tech/wireless

I got mine again with what was described as a Dual Band Wireless N 7260 card... Yeah, its definately not dual band. only transmits at 130mbps. The dual band one that you are speaking of transmits at 300mpbs.

Here is my 7537 stock 7260 card. I do plan on calling dell to complain, cause its false advertising.

I will also report my findings with the new Wireless AC 7260 card once I get the card towards the end of the year. My old Intel 5100 dual band card in my old HP HDX16 laptop works better in terms of range than the one currently in this PC. Speed isn't a problem as I do get this speed consistently from my 75/35 FiOS connection (and I'm at least 20 feet away getting that speed...

So, here's an unfortunate update on the WiFi on my laptop. Initially it seemed to be working fine but i did a few tests. When sitting in my room with the router I get my full 30mbps connection speed on a speedtest. If I leave my room and go to a table just on the other side of the wall (~30 feet total distance through one thin interior wall with the door open to my room) my speed drops to 16mbps. My old HP with a 1x1 card can maintain the 30mbps speed there. Even my phone and tablet can.

Considering they'll refund it or replace the wifi card without issue I doubt it would go anywhere.

Edit: Anyway, I'm probably going to be sending this back unless they'll upgrade me to the 7260 AC. The Dell wireless is a PITA to work with on Linux and the Intel wireless was one of the major draws of this laptop for me.

Yeah, the i5-4200u will run any game just fine. I know this because I follow benchmarks obsessively.

Edit: Here, there's a review of a laptop that has the similar combination of a GT 740m with a Core i5-4200u.
Review Acer Aspire V5-573G-54208G50aii Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

You can see that the CPU is a bottleneck in some cases (Metro: Last Light), mostly on the lowest setting, but most of the time the GT 750m was more of a bottleneck.

I just received my notebook today. I'll test the wifi as soon as I get home and report what I'm getting.

It seems like there's a very high probability the wifi will be poor. I'll wait to see if the user who the Intel AC card gets better results, in which case I will ask Dell to replace it with that card.

If they refuse, then I'll replace it myself if I like the laptop enough. Otherwise, I'll send it back for a refund.

But not sure what to replace it with.
    Options I've considered:

    1. Yoga 2 Pro: Problem is that it has the same poor wifi reception.
    2. Surface Pro 2 The screen is too small. It has no real keyboard, and the 256 GB model is way too expensive.
    3. MacBook Air 13: Not ideal for using Windows (which I prefer/need), no touch screen, poor screen resolution.
    4. MacBook Pro 13: too expensive, not ideal for windows, no touch screen
    5. HP Spectre 13: Can't find the 256 GB model in Canada anywhere. Not seen any reviews, so not sure how good it is.
    6. Aspire S7: too expensive
    7. XPS 13, XPS 15: 256GB SSD models too expensive
    8. VAIO Pro 13? Too ugly

It would be so much easier if the Wifi just worked well.
