Another question...text on the internet is a kind of blurry...why? what should i do?

Problem with blurried text resolved...for those who have that problem too on the internet, chrome->proprieties->compatibility->disable DPI scalling. Do this for every app which is blurry. This problem came with windows 8.1, i dont have it on windows 8.

Hi, I received mine last week, firs thing I did was to replace the slow hard drive with a Samsung Evo 500gb SSD, massive speed increase! Samsung provide cloning software so I just had to attach the SSD to the computer using a USB adapter and it cloned the drive for me in about 20 minutes. I then replaced the Hard drive with the SSD (about a 10 minute job) and it booted straight up no issues at all. Since doing this it flies along, probably the best increase of performance barring none that can be made to this laptop.

I have the 4500 Dual core (4 threads) games are far more reliant on the GPU than the CPU, Dell equip the 750GT with 2gb GDDR5 which improves the card over the standard DDR5 memory. If you play at a lower resolution you should have no problems playing all of those games.

    Thanks.

Is there any other way of doing it? I want other options in case that doesn't work out.

Sure, just create a USB Bootable copy of Windows 8 (you can use the microsoft usb/dvd download tool). You will of course need a copy of Windows 8 with valid key to do this and a USB Drive of 4gb or more, windows 8 has most of the drivers, the odd one you can download directly from Dell.,

im very happy with my dell 7537. wifi is working fine, better than my old hp 6715s...i have only one question...the text and sites are very small on this fhd resolution. how can i fix that without losing quality and performance?

Question 2: can somebody tell me what wifi card i have installed? intel auto-detect said ac7260 but in device manager it appears to be n7260(which one here, dual band or not)? i dont know which driver should i install.

So my wife purchased the 7537 with the 768 display, and now decided she hates it ever since she compared it to my 1080p screen. It's too late to exchange it so does anyone know of a parts manual where I can get a pert number for the 1080p screen to order and install it on her laptop. I have searched high and low and can't find any info. Also when I call Dell they do not provide any assistance and are all very hard to communicate with. Thanks for any help.

out of interest. what attracted you to the 7537 over another mbp?

notice that you are in the uk too. have you got a link to the unit you have purchased?

The other Mac I was considering was the base MacBook Air. Overall the 7537 gives you much more for your money (when configured with my own SSD, it turns out to be about £50 more expensive), and not buying another Mac means I won't have to deal with Apple's poor hardware reliability and appalling customer service again. There are some downsides to going for the Dell, of course, but overall it should be the better buy.

Here's the link: New Inspiron 15 7000 Series Touch Laptop Details | Dell UK

Note the £50 off also, if you do buy.

that is the same config i have been pondering over for the past couple of weeks. funnily enough i'd been thinking of going to where you are coming from and getting my first macbook. i've had pc/laptops since 1997. the 13" mbpr was all i could stretch to but the font size on a 13" would have troubled my eyes and really wasn't too keen on scaling everything upwards. the 15" mbpr is i think, just silly money.

i've an aw14 for gaming etc and that is about as small i want to go build-wise. but for work, my eyes are deciding they can't go below 15.6" so the 7537 seems the best of the current bunch in that price range/weight bracket :)

the £50 off makes it even more attractive

According to Notebookcheck, yes, it is. They likely know better than "Dell chat UK", which likely knows somewhat less than nothing.

Of course, there's no guarantee that you'll get an IPS display, since it isn't advertised as one. I don't particularly mind TN, myself. My system is due to arrive soon, so I should be able to tell you then.

I don't know, unfortunately. I'm sure someone else will be able to solve the issue, though.

I've not been able to find confirmation of the claim notebookcheck makes, but they're usually reliable.

so it's an ips...i didnt find more about that subject...i resolved the problem with the blurry text. all you have to do is to check "let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" from personalize->display.

All in all, im very proud of that choice...it's a pretty notebook, and it looks like its an MBP. I dont know if i have problems with WIFI(i dont know how to check that), but its better than my old HP 6715s.

As an update, I received my 15 7000 series today. The display I have is not the one reviewed by notebookcheck, and the software I was using was not able to determine a manufacturer. However, given the excellent viewing angles, I'm fairly sure it's an IPS display.

I'm happy to answer any other questions about the laptop if anyone's in two minds about buying.

Hello Inspiron 7000 owners. May i ask you where the exit cooling vents are located i can only find the air-in-vents on the bottom. I got the bad feeling Dell located the vents at a place i cant use this notebook properly cause im planing to use it as desktop replacement with external displays, mouse and keyboard.
If i remember correct the Zenbook got a cooling system where the air out vents are only open when the lid is opened. That would mean if i use it as a desktop and with closed lid the heat cant dissipate and kill the notebook sooner than later.

Please can someone tell me that?

rather than wait for a reply here that may or may not be correct...

do you not have a cooling off period after you have ordered where you are? you could get a full refund if you are not happy with it and you get to test out what you want in the comfort of your own home. we have that return period here in the uk. that way you will not miss out on the price you want today but can still return it if you are not happy. nothing lost is there? i know what i'd do

Thanks for your contribution. But it should be easy to test for someone who own this notebook. The only thing he / she has to do is to close the lid while playing a game or using a benchmark on an external display and check the temperature of the CPU/GPU. If it gets hotter than with open lid the cooling is not working for using this notebook as desktop replacement + external monitor.

I rather wait for a quick lookup of at least one of the many owners of this notebook and pay more later than to have to send it back which costs about 30-40 Euro + bringing it to the post office + calling Dell for the return process etc... I hope thats understandable.

There are no Dell Notebooks anywhere near me in a shop. All shops only got Apple,Asus,Sony,Samsung,Lenovo and even Alienware but none got the standard Dell consumer notebooks in showcase.

I think i will just pay it now and see if its working ...If the cooling system doesnt work for me ill have to plan a good mod for it. Atm i cant see how this design problem could be solved but i like challenges. At the moment the only way i see is removing the display panel but this would be only the last solution.

Still waiting for at least 1 person who own this notebook mentioned in this thread.

It's not when I checked. Dell take about £20 off the price they refund you. There's no legal obligation for a seller to pay for return postage under the Distance Selling Regulations.

I'll post here after carrying out HansTee's request later.

    Hi all,

I've just read the review of the top spec version of this laptop and was just wondering if the TDP issue was resolved with a BIOS update?

Are there any other major throttling issues that people are experiencing similar to last years XPS model?

    Cheers,

    Marc
