Anyone able to answer this? I'm particularly interested in the hard drive, any recommendations?

So, update to my previous posts about ordering a 7537, the order that dell cancelled for no reason then got re-ordered got cancelled again. This time they offered to next day me a system if I gave their call center in who-knows-where my credit card info over the phone. I started to do so then asked, "so I'll get this tomorrow?" She said no, it will ship on the 27th! All they could offer was the free next day shipping. no additional discounts or credits.

I said no thanks and cancelled the order, I also called my credit card company and notified them that any future charges by Dell should be denied.

    To sum up:
    - 1st order placed Feb 17th for delivery Mar 6th, canceled on Mar 1st
    - Dell re-ordered on Mar 1st, for delivery on Mar 17th, cancelled on the 3rd.
    - Dell offered to re-re-order on the 3rd, with delivery on the 27th...

Through all of this I did not receive one call or email notifying me of any problem. I only found out by going online and entering my order number. Great way to run a business Dell, you won't be getting any more of mine.

As a warning to anyone about to order one of these, don't trust the estimated ship date. If you look right now they are showing an estimated ship date of 14 March online (for US). Yet my "priority build because we screwed up and will next day it to you" wasn't expected to ship until the 27th. Not sure if this is for all configs, I had the i7/1080p/16GB/1TB build.

Best of luck to you all, I'll be over on the HP forum if you need anything.

You can put any laptop (up to 9.5mm) hard drive into this unit, I would suggest a SSD for the fastest response,, but yes you could use a hybrid and get a faster drive as well.

it is the only draw back to this laptop is the fact you can only put one drive in it, no msata option.

I use an external drive for large data backups and picked up a Crucil 960GB SSD for $500.00

    Cheers for the reply, buddy.

Can you recall which driver update it was that fixed the problem? I've already run into a similar problem with the wifi which, I'm sure, other guys on this thread have encountered. This was solved with a mess around with the drivers as well.

I've been on 8.1 for a while so I know that isn't the problem. I'll get to updating as much as I can while awaiting your reply. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Find it a bit annoying, irregardless of how satisfying it is fixing the problem, that this expensive laptop runs into so many issues but hey-ho.

I think mine is not the dual band as advertised but no biggie for me. Anw, this is the driver I'm using. I remember installing the latest one and it just ruined the whole wifi system so I uninstalled it completely and did a restart for the system to automatically recognize which driver to use. You should try that as well. Just in caution: have the driver avai somewhere like a usb so in case it doesn't work, you still can access to the internet.

Had my 7537 since December. After being almost silent to operate for 3 months, I'm now hearing more noise and the fan is kicking in for 3/4 second bursts at random intervals. This happens even whilst just browsing the net. Any ideas how to prevent this?

I wish I could be more specific, but if I remember correctly the driver on the Dell website didn't fix it, but by going to intel and updating the driver for the chipset seemed to solve it. Also, I noticed that on the dell website if you use your service number to look up drivers, it doesn't automatically select windows 8.1. So you may be able to find some newer stuff there.

I've had this thing for probably 4 months and haven't had any problems with it once I got that and the wifi sorted out :)

I will get this laptop next week, and want to upgrade the HDD to SSHD, but not sure about the thickness. Can 9.5 mm fit? Or do I have to use 7mm? Also, is the wifi problem still going on? Thanks.

Good thread for the Inspiron, which it took me a week to go through each posts. I’ve recently ordered the Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) and ordered ahead of time a Samsung 840 pro 256GB (which probably be returned for the 840 Evo 256 or 500gb). Looking at the spreadsheet of successful and failed SSD swaps; paulthuong was one of the first to install the Samsung 840 Evo 500GB and with success.
    1. paulthuong, any issues as of date with the Samsung 840 Evo 500gb?
    2. MacGyver88, merlo94, agarcia81, mgj167; how’s the Evo so far?
    3. asheilio, BBBB101, majoho, dieselweasel, pepperortiz; did any of you switch SSD brands since the Samsung 840 Pro fail?
    4. Any difference in performance and such (besides the GB size difference) between the Samsung 840 Evo 256GB and the 500Gb version?
    :p

:hi2:Hello MacGyver88, how long have you had the EVO since installation? WiFi issues still occur!?!?!?!?!?

I'll be getting in my Inspiron 15 (7537) in about 2 weeks, hopefully the WiFi is good for me, if not, then hopefully the simple uninstall and re-install of the WiFi drivers should do the darn trick. I guess i'll pull the trigger on the Evo 256GB then, ftw.

I've had my evo since november or so last year and it runs without any issues at all. I don't have screen bleeding, ghosting, burning, coil whine, wifi, space bar or any other complaints. The keyboard is a bit meh but it works. Overall, really nice system for me. I don't feel inferior to hundreds of macbooks around my campus, hah. :)

 Hello paulthuong, seems like you have a good Inspiron 15 batch.

 I guess once I get in my Inspiron, i'll check for the "screen bleeding, ghosting, burning, coil whine, wifi, space bar or any other complaints." I'll most likely will return the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB for the Samsung 840 Evo 250GB. I've already have a G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB ready and will install Windows 7 (64 bit), I'm not fond of the Windows 8.

well actually my screen has like 4 dead pixels but I really don't care it that much. I wanted to ask for a replacement but then it's too much work and they might ask me to send them the whole laptop which to an extent now that I can't live without. Hah. Good luck on your 7537. If anything I can help, I will. Cheers.
Edit: i do have the hissing sound whenever earbuds are plugged in and it's pretty noisy but then again not a deal breaker for me at all. I didn't pay thousands of dollars for it anyway (paid a total of 830 buck as mentioned for the midtier). Battery life is steady and holding up okay over time. I don't use the battery that much since there're lots of outlets around my campus and the charger is actually quite small so I plug in whenever I can. On average, batter can last from 6-7 hrs easily. I still wish there was a 9 cell avai though. :)

    Same question as MacGyver88.

@MacGyver88, I forgot if you mentioned in the previous posts, but have you done anything to fix your WiFi problems because I know that you didn't contact customer service yet. I have Verizon service and their router, hopefully no connections drops for me because I'm usually on the second floor. :(

I have just tried to install the latest driver for the N 7260 (version 16.10.0.5) from the Intel website ( Support for the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260), and it looks like there's no improvement at all. All of my PCs, smartphones and tablet don't suffer by being moved to the same room where I am testing the laptop.

    Hello,

I've been watching this thread for a while and it seems i'm one of few who got their Samsung 840Pro working with this laptop. Initialy the drive did kind of dissapeared from being seen by BIOS but i connected it to my desktop PC reformated it with win7 and from this point the drive works fine on my laptop. It may broke in the future but for now it works.

Now what i was about to ask is that anyone experienced problem like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdhIA8-UIRQ? I've seen people talking about "ghosting" but im curious if this is what you were talking about?
    I have the AUO panel.

Yeah, I was having a hunch that it could of been a Windows 8 problem. Hopefully your Samsung 840 Pro will continue working with Windows 7 with no future problems.

The problem usually only happens after several reboots, I initially used a 840 pro and it worked for a while, then I lost everything and did what you did reformatted it on another computer and installed it again and the same thing happened again after some days so I just put in an old Crucial M4 SDD I had laying around and it has worked perfectly ever since I did that.

No it's definitely a problem with the 840 PRO, the problem has been reported on numerous laptops even on macbooks.

    Like this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T5...is-killing-Samsung-840-pro-SSD-s/td-p/1366903

Not sure if the new firmware they released yesterday will fix it but I wouldn't bet on it.

just received my 7537. It is beautiful, kinda heavy, but very sturdy. The screen is gorgeous, much better than my 20" Acer monitor. Hate the keyboard. I have a few questions:
    1. Is the display IPS?
    2. There is no Num Lock indication light?
    3. Has anyone tried Hybrid Solid Drive like the 1TB Seagate with 8GB NAND on this? This or Crucial M500 240GB?

yeah it is definitely an IPS display on the full HD version. Is this the one you have? and no, there's no numlock light which is kindda stupid i think. I'd go with the crucial m500. Nothing less than an SSD for me now. :D

I believe mine is acting the same way as well. Whenever I change from a dark background to a white background, the brightness seem to adjust itself. It's not by much but definitely noticeable. ;)

That could be due to two things: Windows Adaptive Display settings and a Intel graphics driver setting.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while but have been keeping up. Not going to lie, I'm still interested in this laptop: Sure there's some issues but the bang for the buck can't be ignored.

    Hi Guys,

I am on the verge of purchase of the Inspiron 17 7000 ( 7737 ). Im afraid I cannot budget for the higher rez version with 16GB Ram and i7 processor. For me it has to be the lower spec model - the i5 with the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB DDR5, 6GB Ram etc.

Inspiron 17 7000 Series Laptop | Dell Ireland

A few Qs for any owners OR anyone in the know:

    1. Though 6GB Ram (4GBx1 + 2GBx1) - can this unit be upgraded later on?
    2. Their is a dual VIDEO CARD in these units?? Is this an issue in every day use?
    3. I will be using it for day to day stuff, bit of hobby 3D work using Blender 3D, some 2D work with Anime Studio Pro, maybe doodle with UNITY 3D. I will not be gaming on this unit, I dont Game that much, prefer noodling with 3D apps and the like. For stuff like this ( and realizing that the i7 might be better but dearer ) will this unit be reasonable enough for this kind of use - casual?
    4. I also do alot of music work - Sequencing with SONAR X3, Fruity Loops, VSTi plugins. All over headphones when on laptop. Not too worried about internal soundcard once I can hear the stuff reasonably. Is this unit OK for this kind of thing??

All the above is based on compromise. I realize their are better units, but one needs to cut ones cloth :D

Also this St Patricks weekend DELL are knocking off 10% from the cost using a discount code ( up to next tuesday 18th ). I can get this unit for €656 inc VAT delivered here in Ireland.

Finally - I am coming from an older VOSTRO 1720 Laptop - 17" also. I am able to reasonably do all the above on this unit - the audio, the 3D etc. BUT she is getting old Im afraid - the WIFI Card is gone ( use ext wifi stick ) and the network port is a bit shot. Time to retire my trusty workhorse.

Cheers guys, look forward to your advise
Happy St Patricks Day / Weekend :D
    Aidan

Got the machine on the 12th. Installed a Samsung Evo 250gb SSD on another laptop to install Windows 7 because I initially had a problem booting or recognizing the new drive on the inspiron later finding out there was an optional booting sequence besides the new UEFI for Windows 8.

    Installed GSkillz 16gb Ripjaws RAM.

Installed and updated all drivers for the Inspiron.

    - Keyboard takes time to get use to. I have no problems with the keyboard or the space bar. Wish the keyboard keys are in black, but it doesn't bother me.

    - Track/touch pad takes time to get use to, somewhat similar to Apple's MacBook touchpad.

    - Idle to normal usage would be between 2-3gb of RAM. Stays slightly warm on the GPU area.

    - SSD, fast, fast, fast. Samsung Evo hasn't given me any problems at all.

    - Screen, I'm not sure if it's my eyes or this display model has a auto adjust for brightness. I felt the screen brightness slightly adjusting from time to time and felt annoyed. It may be what booboo12 was saying, could be the Intel Graphics driver setting on power saving for battery performance.

    - Speakers, is good and enough power for my liking. I do not have that problem with the headphones (the buzzing or hissing problem when headphones are plugged in).

    - BE CAREFUL AND DON'T BE A NOOB LIKE ME. Be careful when opening the bottom plate to access the drives, I've snapped 2 small hinges (the ones near the battery and hard drive area). Carefully pop the back and the sides before carefully lifting the plate outwards.

    - Solid body, weight feels the same as the 15 inch MacBook Pro, somewhat heavy and a good sturdy feeling to it.

    - WiFi, solid so far. I'm a floor up where my router is and my connection has been crisp so far.

No issue with the follow so far: "screen bleeding, ghosting, burning, coil whine, wifi, space bar "

:Dim in love with this machine

    Hi all,

I´d like to add my two cents might help someone.

If you´re having the can´t recover from deep sleep issue and have the 1TB SSHD, you can disable and/or remove Intel rapid start (its actually slower than just hibernating and requires an ssd to be efficient). This way the computer wont go into deep sleep after the set timer. You can hibernate to turn the computer off without losing work,

I think I have the LG IPS screen and have generated a calibrated icc profile using the i1display pro which I´m attaching. If you do color critical work then this might not be for you but for everyone else might do. My screen had a green tint that was apparent once the profile was generated (correspondingly you would see a magenta shift when applied). The profile was generated using level 5 brightness and D65 whitepoint.

If you´re not sattisfied with the brightness out of the box remember to deactivate Dell´s Intelligent Display in the battery options under Windows´ power options. I thought that my screen was failing until I found this.

    Cheers!

    Hi guys, i'm interested buying a Dell Inspiron 7000 15" i5 (4200U).

-Do you think this laptop could run well illustrator CS6? I'm not a professional user, just use it for some flyers.

-Does your Inspiron have a SD card reader?

-I heard kebyoard is quite "strange", is typing difficult?

-Does the stock HD have a SSD cache?

    Thanks

I'll take it that you're not a tech geek because most of these questions can be answered from just a little research on Dell website.
1 - No problem with CS6 or photoshop of any kind! i5 is pretty powerful
    2 - Yes.
3 - Not the best but it's acceptable. Takes time to adjust if you're from Macbook or something like that
4 - Not sure about mSSD but if you want normal SSD, you have to replace the HDD with it. There's no extra space for 2nd storage.

    Hi, thanks for your help!

1- I heard the i5 wich is fitted on Dell is an undervolt processor (4200u) so i just want to be sure it will supports illustrator cs6 requirement

2- I read on some review the notebook hasn't got the sd reader, it was wrong, just need a confirmation to be sure :)

3- no i'm from an old compaq 610, i just want to be sure is an accettable keyboard, i don't need the best!

Have you got the I5 version?

No, I have the i7 version without the G750M 'cause I don't play games. Yeah it is an i5U but as long as it's not too 3D heavy, you won't have any problem.

    Hi
I have some equestions for you who alredy have this one..
1 Are screen grainy, sparkly or is it perectly clean one (dont like grainy),( you can see it best when you looking att big bright area like google)?
2 Do you have buzz or high pitch sound when lisning on headphones (I use it at the most)?
3 How long, in minutes, this remains complitly slient (with ssd, no counting HD noise) when you just browsing a net, watching youtube or some film (in save energy mode)? How long then fan works before silent again?

Yes the Inspiron series has dual core. and the quad core of course is a lot more powerful and can handle lots of heavy stuff. I've tested both and the 4700MQ was really impressive. That said, I only need dual core for my daily stuff, not mentioning other features besides the dual that Dell offers in this series.

    Hello.
Today i received my Dell 7537 8gb ram,i7,FHD. I didnt have much time to test it, but its amazing. Im very proud of it. But i have some questions:

-should i update to 8.1? Are there any issues(wifi or smth like that?)
-FHD resolution is too small...i mean, tiles, text etc is too small...how can i adjust it without lose any performance?

    What else should i test?

    Hi all,

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Inspiron 7000 15". Of course, I'll be installing an SSD as soon as it arrives, but I'm concerned about Windows installation (I've been using OSX for several years). How exactly will I go about installing Windows on the new drive?
