Just get a Samsung 840 EVO drive. Everyone that has been using them, including myself seems to have no issues.

Thanks for the reply - I went and done a bit more digging and managed to find what you confirmed. There seems to be quite a bit of discussion around if it is even possble to have a higher capacity than 256gb but I seen a few threads where it said 500gb Evo SSD would be fine.

However in saying that there seems to be a lot of information on how to install it regarding 8.1 windows and it causing problems. is there a specific way I should install the SSD - I am happy to give the laptop a clean install if required - also where do I get all my drivers from or is it just a case of close my current HDD to the SSD with the software that will come with the samsung drive

I got the Crucial MX100 512GB a few months ago and it is perfect.
I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1. No problems so far, it will automatically pick up the Windows license / serial key from the UEFI/BIOS and you don't even need to type it in.
You may need to disable secure boot on the BIOS to be able to boot from a USB flash drive or an external USB DVD-ROM drive, and then re-enable secure boot.
I posted a step by step guide on how I did it a few pages back...

Its been almost an year now. When will dell release a second batch of these Inspiron 7000 series processor with a proper quad core processors? I love the design for Inspiron 7000 series. But i DETEST the design of this latest generation XPS series. The previous generation XPS 15 series had an amazing design

    Hi Guys! :hi2:
I have just received my brand new Inspiron 7537.
I would like to use the nVidia GT graphic card instead of the Intel.

Do you know how to disable the integrated one?

I didn't see any related setting inside the Bios (A10).

I then tried to disable the Intel in Windows 8.1 but I cannot open the nVidia Control Panel anymore...

    Thank you so much!

Install the latest NVidia"GeForce experience" and it will automatically do the switching to the new card for you, r you can create profiles for games etc that arent auto detected so they get switched to the NVidia card.

you need to install the NVidia drivers at the same time.

    Try here:

    http://www.geforce.co.uk/geforce-experience/download

No point in running on the NVidia one all the time, just wastes power and generates heat.

    I installed the Crucial MX100 512GB SSD.
Am I supposed to change the UEFI setting into the Legacy one?
That's the only way the solid state drive is spotted once I boot the laptop up...

I installed the same SSD a few months ago, this is what I did to get it working:

[you may want to check the original HDD as I found a folder on it containing all the drivers for the laptop, so you may want to copy that folder to a different location and keep it safe for future installs]

    - get into the BIOS and disable: SECURE BOOT, Intel Rapid Start Technology, Intel Smart Connect Technology and configure it to be in AHCI mode (not [Intel Smart Response Technology]).
    - boot from a USB flash drive (pressing F12 during the dell splash screen) having Windows 8.1 Update 1 installation files on it (create a bootable USB from the Windows 8.1 ISO DVD image)
    - follow the windows installation process, create partitions on the SSD and install windows
    - get into the BIOS and enable UEFI (disable legacy mode) and enable secure boot (this is optional I think)
    - boot into windows and it will install most of the drivers. do NOT install the ST accelerometer/giroscope driver, as the SSDs do not have it and may cause windows not to even boot
    - you will have to manually install drivers for: SM Bus, card reader, touchpad and Quickset (not installing this last one won't allow you to disable "airplane mode" and thus the WiFi will not work at all)

I have the 500GB drive. You can create the restore disk before you take out your drive and install to new drive. Your drivers you can get latest from dell support site.

Hi guys. Is there any owner of DELL 7537 with i5-4210u, who has got a FIFA 15? How is that working on this notebook? I know that GT750M probably should work fine with it, but I don't know how about this processor. I would like to buy this DELL, but I must be sure that new FIFA would work fine on it. :)

First of all, I would like to thank you for the previous answers.

I'm now facing a very annoying problem and several others like me in the italian forum related to this laptop.

Once the laptop is not plugged in the monitor (full hd Samsung) is flickering...
I have already deactivated the adaptive lighting but it didn't work.
Any suggestions to fix it up? :)

    update:
It's a problem connected to the crappy Intel HD 4400 graphic card (I have already formatted and installed the latest driver available on the intel download area)...
Get a look here (that's not me):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT-on8vJekQ

If I go to Control Panel --> Device Management and I "Disable" the Intel HD card, the problem disappears.
Unfortunately, I cannot then modify brightness, contrast etc. anymore and the nVidia control panel doesn't work too.
Isn't it possibile to use the discrete graphic card only?!
In the Bios there is no setting related to that and I haven't found a solution so far...

I had this problem and I found that if I turn off the Intel panel self refresh then it's gone. I use the laptop like that for 2 weeks and didn't have any flickering since that.

Argh! So close to biting the bullet on this laptop! The keyboard flex is about the only thing that is slightly concerning me and to be honest I doubt I'd notice. I dont press down that hard when typing and its something I'ev never really noticed until I saw it mentioned regarding this laptop!

The old Acer Aspire 6930G is on its way out, battery is gone, needs power connection all the time, its slow. Want to use Visual Studio 2013 on it and will be do some other dev stuff also. Some minor gaming would think (but might be tempted by more if it could handle it) So thinking this laptop would do the job as the price is pretty good!

I've read through this thread and quite a few have said the flex isnt actually that bad. As with everything though there are some complaining about some things (like flex, brightness etc) while others say they are great!

Already ordered another Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD (already have one for HTPC).

    So close..... :p

    Hey guys,

I appreciate if you can help me with some information about 7000's series.

I was wondering if the 7000 15.6" supports a caddy drive as well with the HDD. Also, I would like to know about the sound quality.

I'm an almost happy owner of one Acer laptop using HDD+SSD in a caddy drive, but I'm missing a full HD screen.

Does anyone know what is the height of the hard drive installed inside this laptop? Inspiron 13 7000 Series 2-in-1 Tablet PC | Dell UK

I can't find anything about it on the internet. I want to buy it and also to get an SSD to it but I don't know if it will take 9mm drives. I literally searched all pages on google and couldn't find anything.

Wifi is definitely a flaw on this machine. Whether it is a deal breaker or not, it depends on your situation. For example, at home, with sharing wifi with another 2 laptops, the Dell easily reaches the highest speed that I pay for but it is completely useless when I bring it to the library on campus where thousand other people are using the same wifi. That doesn't happen when I am in the new building on my campus so I think it's up to the frequency of the wifi.
As far as I know, the Dell doesn't have a DVD drive so prob it's impossible to use it the way you want with HDD and SSD (I might be a complete idiot and totally misunderstood what you meant but I don't see where another drive can fit in the internal of this laptop)
Well since it says 5400rpm so def 7mm. I believe 9mm will fit just fine. The body of the laptop looks pretty thick for a laptop without optical drive. Cheers mate.

I asked because even my Acer hasn't a disk drive, the space is available to install one after opened. So I could install a caddy drive together with the original HDD.

So I'll stay quiet and wait for deals of other laptops. I just wanna a Full HD screen T.T

    Thanks for the information!

But the situation you presented has nothing to do with the laptop's wifi. It's your campus' wifi that is overloaded, which isn't uncommon for many public hotspots.

Oh right, I forgot to mention that all the 4 year old Macbooks that I got a chance to borrow from the library worked perfectly fine. So something is def not right with the wifi card on this model.

Just thought I'd post here. I got my laptop there yesterday. Ordered on the 10th, shipped on the 10th and deliver on the 14th (China to Ireland - 3 working days). So I was impressed with delivery speed! This was after the site had said estimated delivery date 04 November.

First impressions. Fantastic. I honestly have no idea what the keyboard flex issue is about. I don't notice it one bit. Yeah, fair enough, if I press hard on the keys it flex's slightly, but I dont use anywhere near that amount of pressure when typing! I swapped the 1TB hybrid drive for 250GB Samsung EVO SSD. Had to use the Samsung Migration software as I was unable to download the ISO (from MS) as its OEM that is installed, MS dont allow you to download if you have OEM which is stupid. The migration went fine eventually. Initial issues were I had installed the samsung migration software, it updated itself then when I started migration it crashed everytime. So I removed it, downloaded it from the samsung site, it said to update again (was only one release old) so I said no and it worked fine then.

Once installed it was flying. Fantasic screen (1080p). I really like the keyboard, backlighting is great (previous laptop did not have this).

When ordering I had asked about a non-touch screen version. I thought it was pointless on a laptop. But 5mins into using the laptop I realised I was using it alot. Even just for hitting ok buttons etc.

Wifi hasnt been an issue for me at all so far. It outperforms my old Acer laptop. I think I have the single band intel card as the site does not mention dual band. Havent looked more into it yet as I had no issues.

I had a bit of a scare. After I had downloaded and installed all the windows updates and the Nvidia driver update it was really slow on startup. It would load fine then into windows and if you clicked firefox it would take about 10-15 seconds to pop up. Going to explorer the 'This PC' was taking ages to load. I restarted a few times and left it and it seemed ok then. Boot time is really quick. It may just have been doing some things in the background, not sure if it was indexing anything.

But based on 1 day of use (I know, not the longest time to give a review) I can honestly say Im delighted with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone.

(Now watch me come back in 3 days complaining about it!!!)

The Dell inspiron 15 7000 seems to be my first choice. But is it possible to play wow newest expansion on it on atleast high settings.
Current configuration of the Dell laptop which i might going to buy is:

    Windows 8.1
    16GB Memory
    1TB Hard Drive
    4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4510U processor (4M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB DDR5
39.6cm (15.6") LED Backlit Touch Display with Truelife and FHD resolution (1920 x 1080)

Will this be enough for wow? Any other options.

I recently tested the Inspiron 13 7000 that came with a Seagate ST500LM000 HDD (this one: www.seagate.com/products/laptop-mobile-storage/laptop-internal-drives/laptop-hdd/?sku=ST500LT012), which is a 7mm drive. Details in here: Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (7347) review - an affordable 2-in-1 13 incher. Some readers reported they managed to install a 9.5 mm drive but with a few modifications. So best stick to 7 mm drives

    Hi,
TodayI've noticed that the STMicroelectronics Accelerometer has the "This device cannot start. (Coe 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE" error in the device manager. I have enoered it before but a driver update fixed the problem. The current driver is up to date but the error still persists. DId anyoune enoer this? I also tried installing the older Win 8 version, but to no effect. Is the accelerometer part of the HDD?

Does anyone have the driver and software installation sequence for a clean system installation?

It's working! I reinstalled the driver again and the error disappeared. Still I would be grateful for a reinstallation sequence.

Does anyone notice that their LG IPS panels exhibit faint (but totally visible) vertical lines on blue and orange tones?

My LCD has this issue and it is driving me nuts. My friend's unit has an AUO panel and it looks surprisingly perfect.

I am pretty sure that the AUO panel is also an IPS one, but its hardware ID is mispecified.

It is possible, when Rapid mode is Enabled from Samsung Magician Console.

Disable that ( it's just a Ramdisk, using your Ram to cache the data to the ssd ) and you will get normal range numbers again...

The only disadvasntage may be that you run the risk of losing a ton of data in the event of a crash or power failure ( in this case, a battery complete discharge , or an sudden shutdown like a BSOD) , but if your machine operates normally there shouldn't be anything to worry.

You can read more about it here, although i think that the amount of RAM currently used by Rapid, is 4GB.

You can also read Samsung's Rapid Mode Whitepaper here, or this technical report and decide yourself about using it or not.

Hello everyone. My first post here.

Before deciding to get this model I read through the whole thread. I even went to see a model they had at FutureShop. To have an idea of what it would feel like. I was pretty convinced so I went ahead ordered it on Dell's site. I got the 17inch model with an i7-4510U processor, 16gb of ram, 1TB HDD and GF 750m 2GB card.

Having read this threads I did all my intel related updates through intel's site and not Dell's. Had no issues. GeForce Experience was already pre-installed on this laptop as well so contrary to the past, I guess now they put it in by default.

I honestly couldn't be happier with this laptop. It works extremely well. I have no issues at all with the wifi, the screen, for me is just the right brightness (actually a bit too bright - I tuned it down a bit). I'm perfectly happy with the current hard drive. Loading my programs is fast so I don't see the point in doing any changes for myself. I did some gaming on it and although its nothing compared to an Alienware (which I had considered but found to bulky) it still runs many of my games at high settings which I'm happy with. I love the track pad as well. It pretty precise imo especially when I compare it to my Macbook Pro that I have to use for work (ugh). The flex keyboard is not even noticeable. I guess I don't smash keys as much as I thought I did. When I saw in the store I was a bit concerned because I was pressing hard on it and could notice it flexing but when you actually type naturally, you don't notice at all making it no different than other keyboards I have typed with.

The only culprit in my hapiness is Windows 8.1...sigh. BUT I bought Start8 and got my win7 interface back. Also win8.1 doesn't really like having more than one user that logs in through msn. My wife couldn't log in until I made a local account for her. Anyways, that has nothing to do with the laptop but with the OS.

In all, I do not regret getting this. Add how slick it looks and imo you have a winner.

    Hi,
    I own a 7537 with gt750m card.
Everytime i do a fresh windows 8 installation, one thing or the other, doesnt work or causes problems. But if I restore it to DELL factory image, it works fine without issues.
So I was wondering that it could be because of my driver installation order.

Can anyone tell me the complete drivers installation order?

also, am planning upgrade it with a samsung evo 840 ssd and a AC wife adapter(preferably intel 7260 ac). thoughts about it as well.

    thanks in advance!!!

I noticed something very similar. I have been using a windows install I made freshly with my own license, every other day either the touchscreen stops responding (device descriptor failed error in device manager) or the synaptic and realtek audio drivers take turns at dying :/

I'm currently living with the issues but if someone does know the best way to sort out driver issues please let us know.

I replaced the SHDD with an SDD drive and installed W8.1 on it from scratch. Didn't have to use any Windows license key as it took it automatically from the laptop BIOS.

I only installed the drivers for the devices that were showing a yellow exclamation mark in the devices manager after installing windows 8.1. Also, I run windows update regularly and it installs some drivers and updates for the installed hardware.

Also, what BIOS version are you on? There is a new version on the Dell site, A10. Version A8 was giving me some problems.

    Hello,

    I can't decide between 2 laptops - it is dell 7537 and asus n550jk.

    dell specs:
    i7-4510u
    8gb ram
    1tb hdd
    750m gpu
    fhd touch panel

    asus specs:
    quadcore haswell i7
    850m gtx
    8gb ram
    1tb disc
    IPS matte screen.

Can't really decide between these 2, asus is pricier ~100usd.

Pros for asus: matte IPS screen, gaming power, sound system (some report its excellent and some report its awful)>
Cons for asus: battery, constantly spinning fan, build quality (don't know about it really), useless dvd burner.

Pros for dell: design, low power consumption, battery life,
cons: keyboard flex, glossy touchscreen (don't need it really), wifi problems.

I am not a gamer, but if I had a pc capable of it , I might play :D I often watch movies, do programming, browsing the net. Portability is a good thing, but there is almost always an option to use socket..

I don't have an option to touch these both. Have checked the 7537, I loved the design, didn't notice that keyboard flex, but I did not really focus on that.

so please, your opinion , which one of these is more 'premium' laptop and would be a better overall purchase?

Had my 7537 for nearly a year, and starting to use it more for Homeworking. Only problem I have is staring at the HD screen for a few hours gives me a headache, and I need more than one screen for work.

Can anyone suggest whether a 21:9 screen will work out of the box (Acer specifically as under £200), or should I pay more for a UHD screen such as the Benq GW2765HT for just under £300? I like the portrait mode on the Benq, but the side by side browsing on the Acer superwide screen will work really well for have two browser windows open at once on a single screen.

Any experiences that people would care to offer?

It used to give me headache as well, but it's not this laptop's screen, it is high resolutions and/or high brightness levels in general. At work I have a 27" screen at 2560x1600 and I get headache as well. What I did is make things bigger. You can change windows size to be 125 or 150%, so everything is bigger, and I am also using a browser add-on for firefox (it is available for chrome as well), called "Default FullZoom Level" ( https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/) to change the default zoom on every site to whatever you like. I have it at 120% and my headache is gone almost completely now.

Thanks for the reply. Not been too bad the last 3 days I've worked from home since dropping the brightness level.

Still want a big external monitor, and it's a toss up between a 21:9 screen like the Acer, or the Benq UHD screen with its portrait mode function.

    I have the same display - it's from Samsung, not LG. Samsung SDC4C48 156HL Dell P/N: M6XR1
    Could you make some measurements?

SDC4C48 is quite strange, I've found this model also as 18.4" (Alienware) and 13.3" (Dell 7347).

Similar display, but with different Dell part number was also used in Latitude E5550: Dell Latitude E5550 Notebook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

No issues, good brightness distribution, only one grey dot 2^2 or 3^2 pixels. Maybe I'll replace the screen.

Seems Dell 7000 still going strong....

I have been using Dell inspiration for more than 4 yrs, it's working really great, no problems at all other than fan cleaning kind of simple maintenance.

Now need another laptop, so spent almost months of grinding, finally coming back to Delll again.

I have ordered Dell 7537 series but not 7547 as the metal one looks better build quality...following is the specs and around 960

    Product Highlights

    2 GHz Intel Core i7-4510U
    16GB of 1600 MHz DDR3L RAM
    1TB SATA Hybrid HD + 8GB Cache
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB GDDR5
    15.6" Full HD LED-Backlit Touchscreen
    1920 x 1080 Resolution
    8-in-1 Media Card Reader
    Intel Wireless 7260+ Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0
    Built-in Webcam/Mic/Speakers
    Windows 8.1 (64-Bit)

Before reaching to Dell as final step...i have checked Asus N550JK 74T - 1199$, Toshiba P55T 4K 1200$, Toshiba Razor W 15.6 850$, Lenovo u530 800$ but each Laptop had some +ve and some -Ve,Asus / Toshiba high MQ chips sucking whole battery in 1 to 2 max hours and like Boilers with i7 45W processors and heat.

Seems, Dell did fantastic job with 7000 series 7537 Aluminum one, although heavy, but seems to me like one can rely on day long battery with SSD and cool lappie. Also back panel maintenance is bit easier compare to others.

If any one feels Dell 16GB / i7 4510U/ Nvidia 750M available at better deal, pls advice.
