This is what happens when Apple makes notebooks in advance for retail stock (MB's use the same diplay) with special access to procs and chipsets from INTC and Dell has to play 2nd fiddle.

Dell used to be in Apple's position...

Not true Dell must make 1,000 computers for every Mac made.

Mac's only have a 3% share of the TOTAL personal computer market. If I was going to show prefference to anyone it would'nt be the onse twose order'er.

I agree that Mac may have started production in advance of release but they do not get prefferential treatment.

That's a big exagerated :) Dell does not have a 1000 times bigger market share than Apple. Plus don't forget that if we talk about laptops, Apple has really a nice market share now, especially in the US. And finally, it's not only about market share. Apple computers are expensive, maybe they offer a better price for purchasing their LED screen for instance... Imagine you are a LED manufacturer, Apple come with an order with much much better margins for you, will you go with them or with Dell? I would first provide Apple, then Dell.

either way, it's pure speculation. Maybe Dell is second, maybe first, maybe Apple and Dell get their LED LCDs from different suppliers. In any case, we don't have any hard facts to know for sure what's going on.

That's more or less the same anyway: it's blocked. I saw the status of my order in their system: it's written "in production" but also "awaiting manufacture". On the website it's preproduction. So the website is wrong, but the reality is not really much better: the laptop is waiting for parts to go into manufacturing. Same for yours. Same for all 1330.

Well, I was ASSURED by a Dell rep that mine would ship on 31st July, he even confirmed it to me in writing.

New ESD on the website = 6th SEPTEMBER. With no contact. Why.

Because they don't have any screens im afraid. Everybody is in the same boat except some who believe what the reps actually tell them lol.

I was told a while back by someone high up in Ireland (and I posted here) that the middle of august would be when the first units shipped for the UK. Having excepted that and ignored all the BS others have been told im very relaxed about the whole thing. If it arrived sooner then hey, fantastic, but im not expecting it anytime soon.

A rep called NATRAJ (uk) told me it would ship on Monday.
Again, dunno if i can trust him, but hey its a start!!

On the plus side, the laptop goes by courier on a ferry driect to the isle of man, where i live, so should get it on Tuesday! Yey!!!!

    Cant wait,
If mine does arrive on that time, does anyone have any questions they want me to answer with regard to the laptop?

@ pieman... I ordered it on the 5th July.

@djrm... Yeah I was expecting a delay to around mid-august but nowhere near the 6th of september. What's really added fuel to the fire is that nobody's called me to tell me why or even to tell me it's been delayed - I had to check the order status page and find out for myself.

What's worse is that they took the money out of my account on the 6th July, the day after I ordered it. All £1498.99 of it. And no laptop for 2 months? Ridiculous.

I'll bet that is what it is. pieman314 is apparently getting his but it has the CCFL screen (and black casing). gratedraindrop is waiting for one with the LED screen and that is obviously where the biggest supply problem is.

Not true im afraid. They dont have either screen, CCFL or LED. Its the glass thats at shortage rather than the actual screen type.

Nobody will be getting an m1330 for a least a couple of weeks me thinks. Dell CS reps are full of...

    To Cliegal and Tileman

Just wondering if the unit suffers from any high pitched or chirping noises from the motherboard/cpu? (as previous m1210 had this problem...and various other core 2 duo notebooks).

    thanks

I guess we're just hogging it up for cups and cars and whatnot else. It better be because the computer industry just isn't processing enough glass, otherwise it would make no sense.

Well I spoke to a lady in production who was very apologetic and told me she'd ring me back in an hour but the delay is on my processor, my screen and my 8400m. I wonder which is putting me back till September though. I'm not going to cancel because like a lot of others on this forum I've come to the conclusion that nothing can compare to this little beauty! But it does mean that I can't do a lot of stuff I had planned to finish before the end of the summer holiday. :(

Dell moved it back because they didn't have all the parts for it and they're working on giving me a new delivery date. Apparently, my order was never officially in build and they just corrected that, so that's what I get on the phone.

Hey, I know that some of you don't like the fake university orders, but are any University of Florida orders out of pre-production? I ordered from U of F back in June when everyone was flooding Drake and my chance at the U of Michigan m1330 discount package was removed.

Something else I can speculate about...
    1) Failed testing - back to rebuild
    2) To try and save time it was built (and perhaps even tested) without the (LED?) screen. Passed testing - now back into the queue to get it's own screen.
    3) Completed nicely but suddenly the screen was need for someone else and taken off!
