As I said earlier, they've run out of boxes, and are currently facing a severe shortage of cardboard and styrofoam. :p

I just hooked it up to my TV via HDMI and it does pass audio. Played some music and tried a dvd and I've got audio through my surround system. I had to go into control panel and sound properties, then I set the HDMI as default sound and it was a go.

That is great news. I was getting worried when the manual showed how to hook up sound through the three ports on the front of the laptop.

Probably on Monday or Tuesday. 31st is the date I've been assured it'll be delivered to me. I shall be doing a review, but it'd certainly take about a week or more. College resumes on 31st, and It'll be rather busy the first two weeks or so.

Just a random question on the sound issue. What kind of files feature full 5.1 surround distribution as to be able to pass it to a 5.1 sound system?

Cause the order status is all a lie. lol. It's like how it goes "in production" as soon as they do a credit check or whatever.

    Hey guys,

Just to throw this out there. My order was placed on June 30th and is an EPP order. After waiting until yesterday, I finally contacted my sales rep and mentioned maybe something was holding the order up.

I should mentioned my order was in pre-production the entire time up to this point.

Apparently operations informed her my free nylon laptop case was delaying the entire order and they suggested the order be re-placed.

I did so and also asked if I could get the Timbuk2 case they are giving free now to home users as a replacement for the nylon case they were removing. She said operations had suggested that and placed another separate order for it in case there was a shortage, so it wouldn't hold up my XPS order.

So long story short, my XPS is now in build status after 1 day with the order being replaced without the free nylon carrying case and my Timbuk2 bag has shipped.

Anyone with the free nylon carrying case on their order might want to check and see if that's not delaying you more so than anything else.

    Hope that helps someone.

I ordered my computer yesterday and got it today!!! When I called Dell and canceled my M1330 I was never going to order from Dell again but I called back and checked stock on a D630 and the price was $2121 after all discounts but could not ship for 16 - 20 days so I checked eBay and found a (new in box) D630 with exact specs as I quoted on Dell for $1791 shipped. I was a little skeptical but I decided to go for it after the seller said that he could get it to me on a Saturday. An hour after placing the order, I received the tracking number and at 9am today, my computer arrived. I am so happy I went with the D630. Plan to write a full review on it.

Awesome!! If I'm not mistaken none of thee HP dv models that have hdmi can handle sound.

Hey Cliegal, were you (or anyone else) able to confirm if the GPU used ddr3 or ddr2? I know that's an old topic but i never saw the outcome of it (at least for the m1330).

I wouldn't be surprise that the nylon bag was holding up our m1330 orders. My laptop has been in the boxing stage as of 7/20/7. At one point, a case manager told me that my laptop was already built and was investigating why it's been in the boxing stage for so long. He also gave me my service tag number which indicates that it was tested and built. The tag number isn't valid yet on dell support site and presume it would only be so once they ship the laptop.

Actually the free nylon carrying case is different from the sleeve the laptop ships in. A lot of original EPP orders got the nylon case for free, now it is $60. However, the sleeve that 1330 apparently ships in isn't part of the order and does not even have a part number.

This is correct, it was the $60 carrying case, which was offered for free on some EPP orders.

I know some people must have picked this option as it was free, so hey why not? Wanted to get the word out there that if anyone is sitting in pre-production to call and get it removed and re-place your order.

The 8400M graphics card line uses GDDR2 memory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8_Series#GeForce_8400M_Series

The GT model can be equipped with up to 512MB of onboard memory, while the others only allow up to 256MB.

    Part number is:

1 310-9468 Nylon Deluxe Carrying Case for XPS M1330

The way I found out was when I chatted to change my shipping address. The guy told me to call some number since my order was still in pre-production. Did that and the customer service person was great, told me what the problem was and took off the case.

And my shipping date moved to August 21st from September 19th.

I have a question, are there several part numbers for the LED screen, I ordered in Black, and my part number is 320-5591, but now in the new orders, i see that the number is 320-5583, the only diference i noticed is that in my order it says Matte black and in the new orders ti says tuxedo black.

    any one know bout this?

Unless i'm reading it incorrectly, that link shows the 8400M GS as having GDDR3.
And only for the 8600M GT it shows GDDR2/GDDR3.

The reason why i ask this is because i know the inspiron 1520 (upsetting for many) came with GDDR2 instead of GDDR3 (as it had been advertised)... or something like that... there was a whole thread and a bunch of unhappy people. And someone made a comment saying that all of the GPUs Dell is using are GDDR2. BUT dell still advertises the 8400M GS in the M1330 (don't know about the others) as GDDR3.

It isn't really a big deal for me either way... but i would just like to know. :D

The clocks indicate GDDR3. Memory clock greater than 400, it's GDDR3/DDR3.

yep.. should be GDDR3.. benchmarks were good and also Dell usually doesn't skimp on their "performance" XPS line.

Well, name another 13.3 inch screen that has better performance?

I was referring to Dell's inspiron vs. XPS practices. Doesn't XPS stand for Xtreme Performance or something like that??

Not entirely accurate, 500mhz GDDR2/DDR2 exists.

I doubt dell would have used that.. Besides, in a 13.3", GDDR3 makes more sense. 500MHz DDR2 would dissipate a lot more heat than 500MHz DDR3.
