13.3 and performance don't go together.. That way, I can argue that the X3100 is a great card, since it's better than a GMA 950, LOL.

Its a shame they didn't include the 8400m GT version...128bit bus would make the difference...
-
performance is relative... for some, like me, 8400gs is quite enough in a notebook.
-
I ordered on July 5 and is still in pre-production, my EPP also include free nylon bag. What number did they ask you to call? I will try to call and remove the item to see if it would advance my ESD from Aug 27 to any earlier. Thanks in advance

sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
Perhaps they might.. in the future.. i.e. if heat is controllable. A 128 bit memory bus is also going to drive up temperatures. They might have to compromise with clocks, then. Besides, there isn't much difference in the fill rates of the GS and GT, so I would say it isn't that much of a bottleneck. -
That would have changed my life

I have Muni Wi-Fi where i live and I was wondering if anyone knew how sensitive the m1330s antenna is. I've never had a laptop so I don't know, are laptop antennas very good? I use a Linksys Wireless G PCI Adapter on a desktop currently, should I be expecting better performance or worse?
( I got the wireless N one for the m1330) -
I've used a laptop antenna and a PCMCIA wifi adapter and don't see any difference between the two. It should work equally the same (if not better) since the antenna is implemented around the LCD screen on Dell laptops.
-
Check out the Globe and Mail review. They found the M1330 wifi reception excellent. I believe it has a new triple antenna technology or something like that.
Also I've heard good things about the Intel draft N card Dell uses. -
I am just wondering what kind of frame rate it is going to give my #2 son on Thomas the Tank Engine ;-)
-
I dunno if it's a game you are talking about, but if you play around with settings, you'll have enough FPS to play just about anything.

http://www.laptopmag.com/Review/Dell-XPS-M1330.htm
"Wi-Fi scores were also impressive at 19.1 Mbps and 16.9 Mbps at 15 and 50 feet, respectively. We saw very good speeds with the integrated Verizon Wireless EV-DO Rev. A mobile broadband connection. We uploaded a 991K image file to our FTP site in 38 seconds (208 Kbps) and downloaded it in an even faster 11 seconds (720 Kbps). Likewise, we downloaded Firefox (a 5.7MB file) in just 53 seconds. To date, only the Panasonic Toughbook CF-W5 has been faster, at 37 seconds. Other Rev. A. notebooks hover between 1:01 and 1:07. And when surfing the Web on a bus ride to New Jersey from Manhattan, Web pages loaded quickly, with only a little trouble while we were in the Lincoln Tunnel, understandably so." -
If you read my posts, then you would have found that I asked a rep, found it in a advert (posted the pic) and in the manual.
I think thats concrete evidence, Dell would not likely have got it wrong 3 times in a row
(The REP thing was a joke, hence the coughs and "Hehe, no joking.." !)
Gosh, guys chillllll, i reckon we're waiting for our laptops tooo much! -
The August issue of Laptopmag just became available for download via NewsStand and I was a bit disappointed to only find a brief 1/2 page "Bonus" review on the M1330... it doesn't get into their section on recommended mobile machines. The review is favourable so perhaps it will get more coverage next month. There is also a two-page Dell ad for the M1330.
(in the contents section LaptopMag is typed it as "M1310") -
This is from the chat log. "contact online sales at 800-981-3355 and extension 72-61843".
I don't exactly remember what prompts I followed after calling the number but I don't recall it being complicated. -
Go on to Dell Chat as ask for the name, email, and number of your sales rep on your EPP order. Then contact them directly and speak with them on it.
You'll get nowhere speaking with regular reps in my experience.
Let me know if you need anymore info as I did my whole process via email to my sales rep. -
my 1330 order from last night went into the build stage 1 hour after I placed the order
-
Ugh HCW I can't get to your chat at all again...
-
they all do. atleast since mid july they have been. also depends on payment method. obviously they are being shadey though still with removing the esd from the screen untill you commit and buy it. kinda weak-tit if you ask me.
-
RW683 is an assembly hinge cover
-
So I'm still in the build stage with an estimated ship date of 7/31.
Hello, delays.
-
atleast its not pre-production. so you dont have to worry about cancelling and restarting..
so you got that going for you
-
Maybe they can test, box, and ship in 2 business days.
-
I see Dell USA have a BIOS update already for the M1330:
> 1. Made the sound more stable when close the lid during audio playback.
> 2. Support the newer version of the Intel processor.
I wonder if that has anything to do with the 2.4 GHz processor questions (available in some countries and not in others) -
Mine came with this A02 bios.
-
sorry pieman.. i've just been waiting to see some concrete evidence of the HDMI for so long, and since the manual has contradictary information I was a little bit annoyed... wanted to just see someone do a test... didn't want them to not do a test because we look in the manual and say yep it supports it... or cos a CSR says so.. we all know how reliable they are...
sorry... didn't mean to snap there. -
My bad, it is GDDR3. I read the chart wrong.

One thing that is puzzling me is how to reconcile the reported shortages of multiple parts with the apparent lack of output (sure - I know a good percentage of shortage reports might by from Creative Sales Reps - once an order gets into Build they probably can't see more about the status than we can).
Nevertheless - let's assume some of these reports are true - if the production lines had ramped up it would be easy to imagine that in this factory or that at any one given time the line might be held up waiting for this or that component. It might change from hour to hour and the line might keep starting and stopping. However, if all that has left the factory so far is a trickle of machines (as it seems) then one would have thought stocks of almost all parts should be plentiful.
Here is a hypothesis that might reconcile the reports a bit.
Supposing a shortage of displays and non-black tops prevents the assembly of the displays. Nevertheless the line may be able to churn out machines at a high rate. It may even be possible to do some of the testing and leave the fitting of the display for final assembly. Then you could imagine that various temporary shortages of different parts might occur. Then at the end the machine is almost built and gets stacked in a corner of the factory to await arrival of displays. (This also might create a FILO situation causing later orders to be delivered first just due to accessibility of machines).
OK - just speculation so no guarantees there at all (I am beginning to realize what it may have felt like in the CIA when trying to guess whether Saddam had WMD!... "I have a high level source in the White House who says 100% that he has!"). (Sorry - couldn't resist that ;-) -
Also, if all our machines are stacked up in the corner of a warehouse without screens then you can imagine the problem Dell is having trying to estimate delivery dates. Even if they know when the displays will arrive they may not know in which order the machines are going to be located in the stack.

I highly doubt they have a warehouse full of partially built machines, that would just be silly for them to do. What happens when people cancel? Do they have to go through the pile and dismantle that one then put all the parts back into the stocks?
They more likely keep all the orders virtual until all the parts are there and ready. Then they get all the parts together in one tote and start assembling them. It would not be very logical to keep thousands of totes around with partially completed systems. -
Dude, where's my M1330?
Answer: with my £1498 - both are on Dell's quarterly report and neither are with me. -
Now thats extremely terrible. Having your ship date change a whole month is excruciating, especially when they've already collected on their end.
There should be a class action lawsuit against Dell. -
I'll definitely be asking them for at least the interest they make on my money (£60?)... and more, since I'm £1500 out of pocket for a system that'll be cheaper to make when it finally gets assembled - a whole 2 months after I ordered it.
Fair enough if they can't do anything about supply problems but their constant beating around the bush with any info, coupled with their 'theft' of my money... I'm outraged.
I won't be cancelling, however, because I can endure the wait and I appreciate the quality of the system itself, but I WILL expect some kind of compensation on their part, be it money or a printer or a CPU upgrade or whatever.
-
There will be. -
On what grounds?
-
Breach of contract, false advertising, reliance, off the top of my head. Probably could deam up some others, too...
-
I'd be wary of the Samsung 226BW, unless you can actually get a look at the back of the panel. The 226BW ships with a variety of panels, a Samsung, an AU Optronics, and a Chi Mei Optoelectronics. The CMO is by far the worst and the Samsung one is the best. On the back of the panel it should be labeled with S, C, or A, depending on the panel. The Chi Meis apparently have terrible color reproduction, especially out of the box. I'd suggest you do a quick Google for the issue.
-
I'm not sure how far that would go. Dell explicitly states that the estimated ship dates are just that - there's pretty much no guarantee on it.
False advertising - huh? For what? -
equif recommendation?
-
Since you're just looking for gaming mostly, I'd take a look at the LG L225/226. At least with that, you're assured of a good panel, as opposed to a gamble with the Samsung. However, if you can make certain to get a Samsung panel with the 226BW, it'll be a bit better than the LG.
-
Nice...m1330 dell premium product has Chi Mei Optoelectronics LED screen
-
Cancelled my m1330
switched to a 1520.. Better price.. longer warranty.. The only thing ill miss is the thought of a finger print reader -
Was there a reason you purchased the M1330 before if size wasn't a concern? It seems like the 1420 or 1520 would be an easy choice if size didn't matter?
-
Though with this thread there really is no "off topic," I definitely would hate to see it turn to law (yuck) and lose its fun character.
That said, keep in mind that a class action doesn't need to get far to do tremendous damage to a company's reputation. There are colorable arguments that Dell has promised a product, accepted payment for it, and failed to deliver that product. Many people, including many students, have relied on Dell's assurances that they would receive their expensive study tool by a certain time and have not. Finally, at least some people have not received what they ordered (cliegal).
As for advertising, though it sounds silly (and Dell's argument in reply would be that it is "mere puffery") don't forget their new motto thing it "it's here," correct? Well, it isn't. It is plainly false to say that it is. TWO people have gotten their computers (on this board at least), and one of those had wrong parts. Also, until a few days ago, Dell estimated your shipping date -- this is a form of advertising (as it could be an inducement to purchase), and they have repeatedly not lived up to that. Finally, I would like to see some proof that this really is the "world's thinnest laptop." Is this true with the LCD screen, too? -
Well i ordered the wrong screen.. lcd and not LED.. plus i was worried about the warranty.. size was an issue.. But Ill have it in a backpack..
I got a 3 year warranty on everything including lojack instead of a one year warranty.. plus a better video card.. -
I can't belive that for a 3000$ laptop i will recive a damn Chi Mei Optoelectronics screen...that company builds cheap low quality displays(not cheap on dell's screen configuration form thow)
It's just like Mercedes putting cheap plastic weels on SLR top notch car. -
That's what I keep thinking. If you can switch to a Macbook Pro or a 1520 then you never needed a 1330 in the first place. 15in laptops are a lot cheaper to make than small laptops like the 1330! They have to shrink everything, and worry about heat a lot more and that raises prices. And due to these concerns they often have to put lower powered things in them. So if you do not need the small form factor do not buy it.
If you have no problem carrying a 15.4 in laptop around that is much larger, and heavier, then why were you even paying for the M1330 in the first place?
That's why it annoys me when people keep saying "I got this 15.4in laptop for less and with the same parts!!" That's because it's bigger! -
I miss that potential capability as well, since I'm switching to a MacBook. The lack of a x-in-1 memory card reader also will be sorely missed, since the MacBook doesn't come with one built in. I'll have to get a USB model... they're cheap now-a-days so I'm not too bummed.
The 1520 comes with a memory card reader, correct? -
considering that nothing else I do with the lcd will matter as far as resolution and refresh rate (maybe dvd, ... although most will be via hdmi out now .
so will be out ot tv and wont matter anyway)
