I would say go with the website since it lists a tracking number. But then again you won't know for sure until the tracking number shows up on the couriers website.

Here is a good one on my end. According to the phone my order was shipped yesterday. My tracking number finally shows up on FedEx and it says that this morning at 4:00 am they received shipping information which means it hasn't left Dell yet. I know it's probably just semantics but the phone makes it sound like it left yesterday and the FedEx site makes it sound like it hasn't left quite yet.

You'd have thought they both use the same database, but their phone and online systems don't refresh at the same rate. I'd trust the website one in this case.

It will appear when it appears.... It depends on when their system refreshes. I simply don't track my orders every hour now like I used to when I bought my first few, so I couldn't tell you when it refreshes. I wouldn't be suprised if it happened overnight, but it might not happen for more than 24 hours.

Relax, you'll get the phone call when you get the phone call.

    Are they automated still?

I believe they give options for when you would like delivery and so forth?

Once again, thanks for your help, much appreciated :)

I also still don't have an updated EDD, in fact one isn't shown at all now :(

Wife and I were both working yesterday during the day...she usually works at night. I just missed FedEx by 10 minutes. Since it was coming Home Delivery the lady on the phone said there was no way of me being able to go to the depot and pick it up. They are reattempting delivery today.

The laptop arrived today and I have Windows 7 RC up and running on it. I've already been able to register for the official Windows 7 upgrade so that is good.

The palmrest does get quite a bit warmer than my last laptop but it is nothing I can't "suffer" through. Eventhough I am used to 1080p on desktop monitor it will take some getting used to on such a small screen but it looks oh so good.

Hopefully you will get yours early in the week.

I assume they've removed the EDD just incase the couriers make a mess of delivery or you aren't in!Here in Ireland(with our not so brilliant postal service) I've received items that the tracking only registered on once I received it!

Alot of them can be ahead of the steps shown sometimes :)

Now,Will mine hurry up in production!Living about 50 miles from the Dell factory in Limerick I may have an advantage when it comes to shipping!

Even though there has been talk of the limerick factory closing down due to this bloody recession :(

They've been on about closing the Raheen factory even before the recession. Besides, I think it would still be there, just they wouldn't be manufacturing anything. It'd be for paperwork and technicians basically, so a considerable downsizing.

You might not have too much of an advantage anyway, as I think it will still go to a couriers hub before going to your home ;)

Oh right lol,They have already downsized the workforce there anyway,

Yeah i know that,As limerick is a fairly big city,There could be hubs for couriers there,Ah well I can only wait and see :p

What I think you'll find will happen (and please let us know either way) is that it will go to a central hub and then back out to a local courier and then to your door. As daft as that sounds, it could mean it goes away from your house before it goes back toward it.

    Fragile,

Do you know if Walsh Western ring on Sundays?

I.e they call 48hours before delivery so if they were to deliver on a Tuesday then they would need to ring the Sunday. Or is it 24hours before delivery?

It seems I may get the lappy before the tracking appears!

Just to let you know we had an issue with a CD player once,It was flown into Dublin and then flown back to france(pixmania base) and still arrived that day even though it was still shown somewhere in France,The systems are usually good but can sometimes mess up!

It'll be interesting to see where my laptop goes before I get it :)

First thing I am doing, as per my status (Win 7 Soon!) ;)

The Studio 1555 will be purely amazing with Windows 7 on :D

I run the Win 7 RC on my Desktop, its awesome, but will wait for the full release for the Lappy I think...

Anyone know what the costs are in the UK for the upgrade? Shipping etc?

"Tax, shipping and handling charges may apply at the time of order placement, and if so, a credit card will be required for payment." on the dell ireland site,Seems like it'll just be shipping..

Windows 7 upgrade may be free, it depends where you bought your notebook. For example, in the UK I don't think the Windows 7 upgrade is included if you buy from the outlet rather than main site - though this might have changed.

Regular retail price is available on Amazon; they did offer home premium for £49 and Pro for £79 at one point, but that sold out in less than a day. I got my 3 copies though :)

    Of course ;)

Lappys are builts mostly in Malaysia I believe. I think they are always being produced.

The longest wait is for the lappy to be shipped from Malaysia to Limerick.

Got my Home Prem E edition for my Desktop off amazon for £45.

It doesn't say on the Dell Win 7 Upgrade page how much but I did ask a Dell Chat rep and they said £15...

£15 if your machine qualifies for the free upgrade. It's just to cover media and postage costs. I'm suprised it's so high to be honest, I'd have thought it would have been a tenner or something; still, it will hardly break the bank for the vast majority of people.

To buy the upgrade for a machine that doesn't qualify for the free upgrade will be a lot more.

    That is true.

£15 is a good deal really...

Fragile, don't know if you saw my post two pages back, do you have any idea if Walsh Western can call on a Sunday? Or do they only do week days?

Reason I ask is 2-3days from shipping day would be Monday or Tuesday for me, and if Dell ring 24 hours before delivery then it would have to be today or tomorrow?

    Thanks

Ah right,I thought they were built there,The shipped to the Dell factories in the countries where the model is available and then customised there?

So basically the laptop is made from scratch in Malaysia shipped to Dell Limerick(in my case) and then the stock machines are customised to the buyers need?

    I'm obviously wrong :)

Yes, the vast majority of Dell notebooks are either made in Penang, Malaysia or Xiamen, China. They are thend shipped to a Dell hub, and then from there to a national hub and finally a local courier hub.

The regional Dell facilities tend to be used for desktops / servers; though a fair proportion of these are still made in the east.

I understand that and it doesn't bother me,Just I've got a lot coming up for college registration so will be backwards and forwards to college in the next few weeks,So I was trying to guess when it would roughly arrive,So I or someone could of been at home,Now that it's coming from somewhere in Asia I won't know when the couriers will get it and it's usually the morning of the delivery they ring here!

So could be a bit of trouble

It wont really be any trouble. If they call and get no response then they wont deliver until they do. The wont just leave it unless someone is there to sign for it.

Jid, i was in the same boat as you, ordered with similar specs however mine was shipped on the 2nd of this month, i was starting to get worried they would'nt call, so i call them this morning and to my suprise they give me a delivery date for tomorrow morning between 8am-1pm. Chuffed to bits, my advice would be to give them a call and ask for a delivery date.

    Roll on tomorrow.....

Mine is probably due on Wednesday comparing zooby's ship date.

They will most probably ring on tomorrow...
Typical, my Dad will have to take Am/Pm off work to be at home for collection, I was hoping it would come tomorrow as someone would've been in :(

Zooby, whats the number for Western Walsh? What details do I need to call them, order and cust. no. is it?

    We will see...
Tracking is too annoying me, how difficult is it to display tracking data :D
