Why would they do that? Nahalem is coming out Q2 2009, it would be pointless.

Its got Centrino 2. The Asus F8Va is the refresh model of the F8SV. They are both identical on the inside except the F8Va has the Centrino 2.

If dell does update the 1530 here soon, what gpu do you think they would use, 9600m gt? if so, do you think they would use Gddr3 or ddr2. Also, How much more performace would one see out of the 9600m gt Gddr3 card compared to the 8600 gt Gddr3 card. I am really considering picking up a 1530 right now if my epp rep will give me a great deal, since all the refreshes are starting to come out now.

    Thanks

    Quick question:

What is the epp rep some people are talking about ?
Is it better than the 20 -25% off coupon ??

And what is going to be the real difference from the XPS 1530 8600 nvidia with the probable new one with the centrino ???
    Thanks

EPP is Employee(or Educational) Pricing Program... its often cheaper to buy through here, though u neeed to be a college student or employee of a company(eg Boeing) that participates with Dell....

the laptop in my sig is from EPP.... think u can get that for $1268+tax?

When you do a checkout on the EPP program, do you have to enter in information about the college you'll be attending and stuff?

EPP is good only when combined with the 25% off coupon. Thats how people got 40% off. Last week of April, there was the 25% off coupon + Dell's 15% off from EPP.

That deal has long since been gone and Dell obviously doesn't want people getting 40% off from their XPS line. As a result, if you try to add 25% off to an EPP discount, it no longer is combined with EPP, but replaces the discount EPP offers.

Thats why 25% off is currently the best deal and has always been the better deal.

@Death Ro: In my case (Columbia University), the IT department's website has a link to a customized Dell website which has all the deals. If your college doesn't do this, check out www.delluniversity.com and see if you can find your college listed. If it is, that website should lead you to the EPP deals.

Why doesn't it list any schools for California? Maybe it just takes a long time for me to load it? Can any of you guys see if any California schools are listed?

If you go to the technology section or software distribution site of your school, there is most likely a link for Dell's EPP on the school's site.

@DeathRo -- there's a bunch of California schools listed when I just tried it. Might want to try again.

Side note -- Alumni from participating schools appear to be eligible according to the text on Dell's site. Good for the older folks. ;)

It'll be prolly 100-200 bucks more expensive, not much of a price hike, but no discounts. Meaning a maxed out configuration WILL cost well over $2,000.

The refresh gfx card will not be a significant boost to buy. It will still be a mid-range card based on the 8600GT, just slightly better. It'd be best to get whatever comes after it and beyond.

Buy it now for the cheap price is a factor. You can max out now while still getting a good price.

I'm thinking since the coupon expires today... tomorrow will most likely be the day they come up with something new.

Thanks for the answer, I will probably buy ASAP to max up the XPS 1530 with LED, 4g, good proc and 6800 GT....

Actually I have added both coupon to my dell account and only the 20 % off 1249 expired tonight....
    25 % off 1499 expired July 21 ....

So many no update before next week....
Dell usually get the update out when ready to ship ...

Dell adds on time after it expires. I recommend not waiting till the last minute since the only reason why you now see the July 21 date is because the 25% coupon expired at the same time as the 20% and they decided to renew it afterwards.

It would make sense if Dell does not want to be like the other companies and release the half-baked version of Montevina thats currently out right now.

That would mean Dell is clearly aiming for quality despite inital loses to other companies in sales. That would be quite honorable.

ive been pondering over the 1530 vs HPs dv5t, one thing that pushes me away from dell tho(one of a long list) is the fact that you order a pc from them, and get it a month later.

As for being a half backed version, if its the half i like, than im ok with it. We got a dell laptop a year ago, im on a hp dv6000t right now, and even tho its newer, theres sti;; so many more things i like about it, compared to the dell. though i must admit, i baught it from costco, so i didnt deal with hp customer service. still, id like to see what dell is going to do about the new chip before i buy my new laptop.

What about Dell's Studio line? When do you think they'll get Centrino 2?
I'm pretty much deciding between the HP DV7t and the Dell Studio 17, but with no Centrino 2 yet, I must continue to wait...

perhaps, but who knows, that person could of talked to some guy from india, and after waiting on hold for an hour and a half than learned that dell wasnt going to revamp their line. On the other hand, when HP released their dv5z, and than later the rest, there was no warning, just poof there they were, though most of us had the idea that the dv5t would come out within a day of montevinas release. I'll give dell and hp another month to show up the best offer, than ill buy.

according to the post in the comment

"We contacted Dell; the company is not offering any notebooks for the Centrino 2 launch. The company is, however, "committed to offering it on our notebooks in the future," according to our contact."

    hope this isnt true

I had a little chat with the support and asked if he knew when Centrino 2 was coming - he didn't. He said they won't know until about any updates until they are available on the website.

Still I got like a month before I'm going to order, I just hope Dell has some Centrino 2 laptops available by then. If not I haven't a slightest clue of what to buy.

@atbnet: I'm sure Dell didn't want to give out any info about upcoming laptops to Crave. But I think what that statement also implies is that Dell will not push Centrino 2 immediately. Whether the waiting time is days or weeks, only time will tell!

I knew this would happen. Dell is going to keep losing business the longer they wait to put this into their laptops. I don't blame you WyGuy, heck, soon I might join you in getting a different branded laptop because it is getting hard to wait...
