I truly believe that Dell is not going to do anything with the Centrino 2, or at least not for a while because they plan to release Ubuntu on XPS 1530 in August after releasing the XPS 1330 with Ubuntu not to long ago.

Same with the 1525 and 1525N. -
all I can say is:

The answer is probably that Dell is waiting for the ship date of the Echo Peak chipset to go with the new processors
I expect they want to roll out all the options in one go, with Echo Peak/Wimax, switchable graphics new NVidea GPU, large SSD options...the whole shebang!
It's really not Dell's fault that Intel failed to ship Echo Peak at the same time, and delayed Centrino 2/Shirley Peak chipset for so long...
If you look at all the current offerings, none of them are a revolutionary step forward in performance or battery running time... tho the Sony Vaio Z series is looking really good, but at an outrageous price...
I will wait for the Echo Peak launch in mid-August/September, then expect Dell to come up with a refresh of the XPS 1330 and 1530 ...
* Intel launches Centrino 2 with host of chipset improvements
* Intel delays full introduction of Centrino 2 into Augustl
* Intel Centrino 2 chips coming in two waves
I want it NOW
Damn Intel, they really are useless, first they mess up Vista Aero Glass Compatibility now they fail to deliver in time for Q3 !

They will have to do something. ie backlit keyboard. The XPS should have everything the Studio and inspiron has plus more.
come on dell, wake up!
I'll get the Sony Z otherwise. -
-
I don't know much about WiMax. Why is it so great?
-
-
OK, so everyone on this thread is pretty much waiting on Dell to bring out something new that incorporates Centrino 2. But how many of us are actually going to buy the new models when they come out?
-
The first day I see an E series Latitude with montevina, I will be purchasing a laptop.

Centrino 2 is not the be all end all. Yes, technology advances, but you must consider performance gaps between the advancements.
Take Dell, before the current Inspirons and XPS M1530, they had the 15.4'' Inspiron E1505 with a X1400 graphics card. Now in the present, we see the 8600GT. That is a HUGE difference and a huge leap in advancement.
Montevina does include marginal increases to battery life and efficiency, but really, the graphics card will only be slightly better, though not as significant an amount. Best to get one now so that by the time the next big advancement jumps out, you won't have to pay to replace the current Montevina refresh simply because you were an early adopter. -

But what if along with the 'marginal' performance increases you also get a new design featuring, lighted keyboard, slimmer lighter design, colors, personalization, etc. I mean if I buy a Studio today and next month Dell releases a new XPS model with centrino 2 and a hot new design I am going to be dissappointed with my shabby studio. -
Hey Forte, I was wondering if your avatar is a self portriat?
-
It also depends on what you are upgrading from. If you already have a pretty good laptop there is no real need for the upgrade, but if your laptop is older you may as well wait for a few more weeks.
But as always, if you need a new laptop right now, buy it now. -

I would have bought the xps1330 with that 25% coupon and get a killer system but the fear of getting nVidia graphics card stopped me
now Dell better come out with something good, or im just gonna get a Sony SR
btw my laptop is in my sig, so i think im due for a new thing. its slow as hell too -
Goodness....still waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and so forth
Where's that *virtue* for my *patience* ??? -
Id really be happy if the next xps had some of the sweet styling of this design:

If i found out it was gonna look like that, i could wait all year jusdt to get it -

Sony's releasing 16.4 inch notebooks now. Where is that Montevina?
-
The new Sony FW 16:9 ratio laptop looks sweet! Hopefully Dell out does it with their new models. ..... What if Dell dosent bring out any new models?! .... the only evidence we have of new Dell laptops is specualtion from forums like these. .... has anyone heard anything that positively indicates Dell is working on something new?

I'm sure that DELL will launch the new line after the Echo Peak chipset (with onboard WIMAX / WiFi Draft N) is released by Intel...
Plus they might be waiting for the Centrin 2 Pro as well.
So it will be mid-August or mid-September I expect...
I hope it'll be worth the wait!

A friend of mine knows someone working at Dell in a pretty high function (no tele-operator or anything like that) and was told that the nex XPS notebook should be released worldwide somewhere in august.
-
See, that wasn't so hard Dell. Why can't you do that? -
Prophex, are you confident about the new xps coming in august? cause im giving dell till the 24th of aug or im going to toshiba (f55, sweet laptop so far)
-
Well no new XPS laptop just yet, but Dell released a sweet new Studio desktop today.
-
-
-
You are correct, Centrino 2/Montevina is for Laptops just like Santa Rosa is.
Anything Centrino is laptop only. -
But the Studio Hybrid "desktop" computer has a mobile/laptop integrated graphics and also a mobile/laptop series Intel processor, so shouldn't it work on laptop chipsets?
-
It really isn't a cutting edge product. I would not have expected them to put the latest chipset in it. Plus it has been leaked previously back in April way before it would have expected to receive Centrino 2.
-
But I kinda like the Studio Hybrid. It's reasonably priced and in the living room, hooked up to the tv and sound system, i can listen to and watch at anything I like. -
Is the Studio 13 shown on Engadget today Montevina or is that still Santa Rosa?
-
-
-
Well the Latitude E has gotten some Montevina lovin'
Maybe XPS won't be too far behind.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/29/dells-new-latitude-e-series-for-suits-detailed-by-elaborate-pow/ -
The latitude e looks pretty sweet, what are the chances of a discreet graphics option of 8600-gt or above on the 15s? I like the blue one a lot. Was considering a new vaio but they're overpriced in my opinion but these look great.
I'll wait a bit to see if there's a new xps but I'm not holding my breath. It worries me that the Studio line closely matches the current xps line up and we've known about the latitudes for ages but heard nothing about the xps. Maybe Dell kept a secret for a change! -
I think i've officially given up on the XPS 1530m and am now on the Clevo wagon... M860TU! it's a little more expensive, but seems well worth the money when considering longevity and specs.
-
With Dell currently releasing all their new gear (latitude, studio hybrid), hopefully within the next week or two we will receive some info on the new xps line *crosses fingers*
