Well, August 5th is the supposed date for the Latitudes, so that date makes sense.

    http://www.xps-forum.de/thread.php?threadid=7514
I can't read most of it but those do seem like about the right dates to accpect
    But wheres the 1540?
and what might the gpu be in the m1340 when it's released?

If anything the release of the Studio line using the existing Santa Rosa chipset is a good indication that the XPS will get Montevina soon. They need a separation between the Studio and XPS.

september release dates?!?!?!? i really dont think dell's gonna wait till september. dell will loose out on a lotta sales if it updates AFTER back-to-school shoppers buy thier laptops. i think, like the others, dell is probably gonna release the laptops near august 4, or atleast by august 15 *fingers crossed*

I rekon it is pretty possible that they might release them in september, but they will definitely have to announce their laptops before any of the competition have their updated models available for purchase, giving an incentive for customers to see what dell has to offer, reather than if they have anything to offer at all...

well, if they do offer, they better offer them at good rates. most college students i kno wont buy laptops THAT late unless their is a really good incentive involved.

Just noticed that Dell are offering the drivers for the Intel WiFi Link 5300 on the Studio 1535 page here:

    http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...stemID=STUDIO1535&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

This wireless module is for the Montevina platform.....AFAIK, it can't be/isn't/has never been sold with Santa Rosa chipsets...if I am wrong, then please correct me.

Looks like the Studio line will be moving to Mentevina soon....

The link I poster earlier says
    "XPS M1340 => 24.08.2008

    XPS M1640 => 23.09.2008"
The M1640 has a september release date but the M1340 is on the 24 of Augest... It seems you miss read
And who know's if those are right or not...
and What do you people think the gpu will be in the m1340
As far as I know there is no 9400gs so will they update it to a 9500gs or maybe even 9600gs?

Im hoping that the m1340 has a choice of gpu, between the ATI and nVidia series, hopefully a 4000 series gpu and either one of the 9500 and 9600, to keep lots of options for pricing and performance levels.

But seriously i think that it will come with the 9500...

Thanks for that link. I am inclined to believe the M1530 will go to M1640 because they will probably not have a M1740 as Alienware dominates the gaming area which the M1730 is sort of in. September is a while away, hopefully the specs get leaked too. Or if the GPU is good enough, maybe the M1340.

EDIT: Could this be the preliminary M1640?

Just for the record, the guy who posted it has no reputation, is a newbie, has only posted two messages, does not mention a source and does not respond to requests to name his source.

    I'm thinking it's just speculation.

I hope the new XPS models offer a 16:9 ratio notebook with the same 'footprint' as the 15.4" models. Like the Sony FW. But I also hope they get rid of the bright silver palmrests and keyboards. Does anyone ealse think that having a bright silver keyboard and palmrest are a little distracting? I like the style of the new Studio line much better.

Well, his "other" message was a Studio Hybrid preannouncement two months ago. His post on the Hybrid is 5/29, the earlierst appearance of this device on gizmodo is 6/20.
I'm no expert on the Hybrid, but I could not find anything on google that predates the 6/20 gizmodo announcement.

Please elaborate why exactly you think he has no reputation and deserves your bashing!

I think the picture I showed, if that is what you are referring to, would be an early model if anything. They obviously didn't want to give too much away about new models except the move to 16:9.

I was not bashing him, but I can understand it may seem that way. I just listed factual details for people that may not understand german language.

His reputation is 'Grünschnabel' which means something like newbie.

I could not find his other post, but now that I do he instantly gained reputation.

Most of the time 'insiders' aren't established members of forum communities. They usually drop some info and then get out so that they don't expose themselves. He put specific dates and models out there, giving him more credibility. Though, we'll only be sure when we see them on the Dell site or some powerpoint slides get leaked.

@atbnet: Notebook Review did a post on the 16-inch XPS as well!

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4180

What I'm wondering is what the exact size will be (16", 16.4", etc.) and the kind of footprint it will bring. I really wouldn't want a laptop significantly larger than the M1530.

So theres a good chance this guys right...?
Your welcome for the link atbnet I'm glad to share it

So theres a good chance there replacing the 1530 for the 1640?
I think Dell should just let them both live togathere...
Husar I hope your right about the gpu or a even better one like the 9600gt
I think it would be possible...?

"It is based on the already available longer 15.4-inch model XPS 1530"
So the 1640 will be smaller then the 1530?

@spajix: The "available longer" part may be a translation issue. I don't speak German but the author was probably saying that the M5130 has been available for a while. Just guessing.

With the different AR, they would be very similar. I am basing this off of the Sony FW which is 16.4

    Sony FW: 15.1" x 10.3" x 1.14-1.46
    XPS M1530: 14.06 x 10.34 x 0.93

At 16", I would guess the length would be around 14.75

It isn't 16 inch wide and only marginally wider than the M1530 since it is a different ratio.

A sales rep wouldn't tell me anything even when I said I would go to HP
    "12:29:00 PM Spajix
What kind of gpu will be in the new Dell xps m1340?

No, we haven't heard any information about a new system or when it would be released.

    12:32:17 PM Spajix
like if I don't hear anything within a week or 2 I'm getting an hp

That's true. Sales reps are usually the last to be informed, and are never good to glean information out of. :p
Ugh, as much as I hate Dell (for personal reasons), I've been silently waiting for a montevina update from them, just to see if anything, what they have to offer.
One benefit from Dell I can say is, their reinstall discs are nothing more than retail discs with a few added files to tell windows that if it's installed on a Dell, it's state should always be activated, but no bloatware whatsoever. I've always liked that about Dell, and that's one of the main reasons why I chose them over HP in the first place.
    Ugh, decisions, decisions. :(

I still am waiting too. I like the Sony FW, but I really would prefer a 9600 or a better ATI card like the 3650. That's what I am holding out for right now.

Well, at least now they are offering the 128 GB SSD. So that just leaves me to wait for Montevina. They are probably waiting for the entire Centrino 2 package to release, which I think is next week.

I think the VAIO FW looks cool but the graphics are sorely lacking. According to Notebookcheck.net, the Radeon 3470 is only slightly better than the 8400M GS. Weird, considering they are marketing it as an HD machine.

I'm still quite surprised that we haven't seen any XPS leaks yet. It could be that they've managed to plug the sources of leaks or that new XPS laptops are a while away. I'm wondering if they've shown any new XPS laptops to the media yet.

Yeah, it should be adequate for movies and multimedia but the gaming performance will be weak. Anyone think that the Mobility Radeon 3850/3870 could be on the new XPS laptops? I couldn't find any info on the power consumption of these chips.

They need to at least say something for people...
I really don't think they'll put any ati gpu's in the xps line
But it is possible since all those nvidia cards where bad in the 8 series and they put ait cards in the studio's but I still don't think so

It would make sense too, since they chose Radeons for the Studio line. Of course, Notebookcheck.net isn't the most reliable source of information, but the 3850 and 3870 seem to score pretty high on their charts. The 9700 and above Nvidia chips probably consume too much power to be included in the M13xx or M16/15xx series. Damn, all this waiting and speculation is killing me!
