You're Welcome! Don'tcha love it when it all works out in the end? :D

I'm very happy that you were able to get your issues resolved, and that the resolution is to your liking. That "Unresolved Issues" link and the people that man it, seem to be truly interested in resolving issues.

Regarding your Centrino2 sticker, if you have a Dell Wifi card, you do not get the Centrino2 sticker...you need an Intel Wifi card for that.

Anyways, enjoy your new computer. You certainly deserve it!

Lancorp: I have an Intel WiFi card and still have a Centrino 1 sticker. I think they just use up the Centrino 1 stickers for the Centrino 2 builds first.

My Studio 1537 has a SEC5441 monitor. Is this a Samsung WLED?

I think you misunderstood. sdep said he got a Core2Duo sticker, not a Centrino1 sticker. I was merely pointing out that unless you get an Intel Wifi Card with your CPU, you will not get any Centrino sticker, just the Core2Duo.

I've read about those of you getting new stickers with Centrino2 CPU's but getting the Centrino1 sticker...ebay is your friend. ;)

    Hi lancorp – Thank you.
Yes it was a real pleasure to speak with someone that really genuinely seemed like they truly cared and the Thankful outcome Thankfully showed that they really did.
In regards to wii or wifi cards, that really is all Greek to me and like I said I’m really not sure if a T9400 processor is the new Centrino2 platform or not?
I’m really not overly concerned about any referenced sticker I’m just glad that I got what I believe is a pretty decent unit, especially with Thankfully the better LED display.
Is there any way to see what size battery I got without having to take it off as my last one was a 9 cell?
I also notice that this unit has some sort of bass boost controller in the control panel for whatever it’s worth.
I’m also starting to see that the removal of the interval keyboard light might just be a good thing/idea, as it goes on when you just stroke the mouse pad, even if you disable it and then shuts off when your not typing, so that in turn may just preserve the inside lights longer.
I guess it’s like the sayings goes; What’s good for one may not be good for another and opinions are like rear-ends everyone has one. :)
    Thanks as always,
    SD

Yep, T9400 is Centrino2. You're right about most of the stuff...probably not needed anyways. The Bass boost must be totally worthless, considering the anemic audio in the Studio 15. Oh well.

    Enjoy.

If the battery is flush with the unit it's a 6-cell, if it juts out a bit it's a 9-cell

Hi purplegreendave - Thank you kindly.
It does in fact stick out and it read I believe 85 something so I guess it is in fact the 9-cell.
I sure hope Dell doesn't get angry with me, yet I kept the remote and wireless mouse from my origiginal purchase before boxing up the old unit, as I felt I deserved them, as that's what I choose & bought when I made my original purchase.

    I also decided to check a few things in device manager before boxing it up, as I just can’t believe how much quieter this unit is compared to the original one and what I found was;
The original unit has a WDC hard-drive, which I guess would stand for Western Digital and this one has an Hitachi and I really don’t know which one is better, yet I will definitely tell & attest to you which one is so much more quieter.

I just installed A06 on my kid's machine which has chronic touchpad issues, pad hasn't worked properly since day one, and now it seems to be working ok. Time will tell. Just what did they mean by embedded controller improvements? LOL

Hi all, got my Studio 15 a few weeks ago in Spring Green, spec:

Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz FSB 3MB L2 Cache) - I understand this processor is not offered in the US market?
    4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
    320GB HDD
    1440x900 WLED Screen
    256MB ATI HD3450

Mine has the eSATA port which also doubles up as a USB, as per the pictures:

    hxxp://img397.imageshack.us/my.php?image=esataportgc5.jpg

    hxxp://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greentw5.jpg

replace xx with tt as I cannot post URL's until I have made 15 posts.

The USB part works, I dont have any eSATA devices at the moment so havent tested that yet.

I like the power of it, runs very nicely. However, I am having a very annoying noise issue with it and the M-Audio FW410 I am using at the moment, which only occours when running on mains. Perhaps a grounding issue? Im going to have a search through the forum see if i can find any similar issues.

My fan is still being noisy. A few months ago Dell had me install drivers and the BIOS and when that didn't work they had me wipe my computer and reinstall the OS.
Now lately it has been acting up more I can just place my had on the keyboard and the fan will kick in hard or if I just sit it down the wrong way. The battery trick works but is really annoying to do all the time and now I've found just lifting the computer up when the fan kicks on like that gets it to stop.
So should I contact dell again or what?

I would contact them again and stay on it, until the issue is resolved. At least you have a laptop that works .It will be almost a month since I placed my order with Dell and all that I have recieved is one Studio 15 with a screen that does not work. I called them that day and said a new one is on the way. It should have been deliverd yesterday, but according to the website it's still "in production" whatever that means.

Wow, that's too bad, but sorta typical lately with Dell. The Bios A06 update did not fix the touchpad problem, it's back to non-functional. Guess I'll do the uninstal - re-install again and see.

BTW, I left 2 emails on Dell Unresolved Issues with the case number and the service code and still waiting after 5 days to hear from anyone. This is not good, they advertise an answer within 1 business day and I haven't even received an auto-response from them. Anybody home over there at unresolved??

Received my Dell Studio 1537 as a replacement for my defunct Inspiron 6400,
and i'm overall satisfied, the VGA output actually works unlike my Inspiron 6400, haven't tested out HDMI yet.

The touchpad isn't a huge issue for me as I use an external mouse, however, the eject button has a mind of it's own, and ejects my cd when my computer is idle, it's kinda creepy. The video card is kind of weak, but I'm not using this laptop for Gaming, more so web designing/developing. lol. The high resolution is REALLY nice especially using Photoshop Cs3, i haven't tested it with CS4 yet don't plan on it either.

    Jet Black
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
    3GB DDR2

Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1920x1200)

I picked up my Dell Studio 15 (1537) the other day from Harris Technology. I didnt want to wait for it to be delivered direct from dell, as I am going away on holidays to Tasmania in a couple of days and needed a portable computer.

To say I am impressed is an understatement. This laptop kicks my desktop into next week as far as speed goes (I am on the desktop at the moment, the lappy is downloading the second third of my 30 gigs of mp3's from my 10 gig portable hard drive). Its a bit of a gamble when you buy one from Harris Technology as you dont know what colour your going to get and should say "I want one in midnight blue" or "pick one out in plum purple please". I got to my mates place of work where I would be initially setting up the laptop and preparing right away to do some video editing for his collegue. On opening the box, I found I had a midnight blue one. The exact colour I wanted. That alone impressed me. I tried upgrading it to XP, but it became a chore so I stuck vista back on, and its pretty darn fast under vista once its done the indexing.

About the only poo poo with this laptop is the sound - its pretty average for a laptop (I've heard a toshiba P300 and its got awesome sound for a laptop), and the media panel which tends sometimes to take a mind of its own. (eject button going whacko, volume up locking on etc).

All in all its a great laptop. So far the friends who have seen it say its either awsome or comment on the blue colour, saying "wow thats a nice/pretty/sexy colour". Noise is a non issue - I must have got one made mid week. Now to go and finish copying my mp3's, then get onto copying my 138 gigs of movies (oops did I say that!)

Edit: oh yeah machine specs: P8400, 3Gb Ram, 320 Gig disk, no FP reader or backlit keyboard. Rest is normal for a studio 15 (e.g. 6 cell battery, ATI 3450, Intel 5100 Wireless). I did pull its bottom off, and stick a WWAN card in there, and removed the bluetooth. I'll never use bluetooth, so theres no point in it draining my battery when the other two wireless cards are powered up.

I called dell and they said it's gonna cost 74.99 for a backlit keyboard :S lol.

and the 6 cell battery is so expensive. I have the 9 cell but I want the 6 cell to make it less clunky.

I ordered mine on the 7th and it's supposed to be here on the 24th or the 25th. I really hope it gets here before Christmas since I'm going to be gone for a while and it sounds like they just leave the package at your door. When I ordered there was a free 2-day shipping in my cart, but it seems to have disappeared and now shows 3-5 day standard shipping. Maybe I should call up an complain...

One question, it sounds like these are made in Malaysia, are they then shipping to some central point in the US before being send out, if so does anyone know where?

Just pulled the trigger on my own Studio 15. Sad that it won't be here until the middle of next month - 1/14 estimated - but that's the holiday season for you, I guess.

    The spec is:

    Studio 1537 | Plum Purple | C2D T5900 2.2GHz 800MHz FSB | 3GB 800MHz DDR2 | 320GB 5400rpm | 1280x800 WLED | 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 | Backlit keyboard | Fingerprint reader

Everything I wanted and then some. I'm excited. :)

Hello. Do you guys use Mobility Modder to modify your graphics driver? I'm getting the 'atikmdag' error quite often and I'm using the driver provided by Dell. Is there any side effects using the Mobility Modder?

Crucial said my 1537 (Centrino 2) supports up to 4GB of DDR2 800. It came from Dell with the 4GB installed. My 1537 came with the PM45 chipset and according to Wiki it supports up to 8GB of DDR3. The GM45 appears to be used if the Intel onboard GPU is selected.

in order for your computer to be classified as Centrino 2, your computer has to have the intel wifi card too.. correct?

    8GB...

Generally, yep the GM45 if used if intergrated graphics are used because only the GM/GS variant has the integrated video controller, but the video controller on the GM45 can be turned off (although Dell usually uses PM for dedicated and GM for integrated I posted this for clarification purposes).

I've recently ordered my red Studio 15 so I've read up a lot about it, and one review i noticed was regarding the speakers, on the actual DELL review page.
All except one person mentioned their speakers were crap, but that one person actually said 'their speakers were dodgy, but once they turned off a feature in the settings they became wonderful', so maybe play with the main settings a bit?

I'm writing in from Australia, they reckon delivery is around 7-10 days, i ordered mine on the 15th, the very first EDT was the 2nd of January, but quickly changed and has stayed at the 29th of December. The Order Status online is at "Ship From Factory" and the most recent update on the Details was "18-Dec-08 Loading for export" so I'm betting it'll be here before Christmas, and they're only delivering right in the center of Sydney City. Hopefull anyway, compared to reading about SO MANY delays earlier in the year, around the world. 10 days would be pretty good to build ship and deliver a laptop from some Asian country i recKon! ..where are they coming from?

I'm in Aust. I ordered on the 5th, first E.D.T was 31st December, then it changed to 22nd December and then on the 18th I got a phone call organising delivery for today, the 19th. YAY!

So it ended up being 13 days?

Nah, just plug it in and go. There's no "magical" first charge with Li-Ion batteries.

RE: Speakers: They aren't that bad on mine - they're loud enough that I can hear my music in the attic when it's in my room. My Dad's aren't quite as good, but I've changed drivers etc.
Disabling band - a wireless works for most people.
