Could you tell how much is 1537 better than 1535? Or 1737 better than 1735?

Woohoo, got my 1537 yesterday. So awesome! And the Plum Purple lid is stunningly beautiful. I haven't been able to get an accurate representation picture of it yet, but it's gorgeous.

I am also convinced that it is a design problem, but it is not uncommon at all happens, and what bothers is that I appear without cause. and I contacted Dell, they have to fix this problem. have to do something

You will also recommend that you contact Dell and tell them what you're going to see you say to yourself.

    we are in contact

Hi all, im having a slight problem that i think cant be that hard to fix (but me being hopeless has lead me here!)

Regarding the webcam & face recognition program. Both were working fine until (im pretty sure) i installed an updated version of the FastAccess software. Now my Dell Webcam Central wont work as its saying "Close the other video streaming application to start video" when they were working FINE before, im really annoyed about it because its just something silly. I've played with all the settings into the ground, plus its annoying the Webcam Central doesnt have some type of detailed settings list, its really quite basic for the info thats needed to run it - ive also received some notification when it wasnt working whilst playing with settings, that
"turning off FastAccess would mean the Video Chat & Webcam would have to be reprogrammed to the integrated webcam" wat the hell? theres only one camera why cant it do 2 things at once? I've been trying to fix it for a couple of hours now...

If i turn off my FastAccess, the webcam works fine. I dont want to go to drastic measures such as Restoring, as im scared i'll wipe off a lot of what ive installed or n mess around n ruin this thing or...i dont know. but i dont want to do it!!

    help please?

Has anyone been lugging this thing around campus all day every day? After researching through nearly every available options from 13" to 15.4", the studio 15 seems to be the only option that I could see myself settling with long-term, the only concern I have is the weight. At 6.1lbs it does seem to be somewhat porky, I'd really appreciate some first-hand experience from people who have actually lived with the laptop on a day-to-day basis. How much of a pain is it portability-wise? Thanks in advance!

I carry it with a 9-cell and sometimes the plug.
That and stationary is a hundred times lighter than my old school bag, so meh.

If you put it in your back pack, it wouldn't feel as heavy, but carrying it in a sleeve on your side with one arm might be a hassle. It's like a carrying a big/heavy book.

I carry it around the campus daily. Its a no biggie if you have a back pack (which is the best option to carry a laptop). Otherwise it will soon become a pain in the hand( ;) ).

Thanks guys, yeah I'll be carrying it in my backpack for sure. The prices from Dell seem pretty good right now without special coupons, do you guys think Dell will throw out additional coupons soon? If so then of course I'd like to wait for the best deal, but honestly the prices right now seem to be on par with other similar brands w/ coupons.

The prices will always continue to fluctuate and go down over time. You will be able to find good bargains once they start showing up in the Outlet.

The malfunctioning touch pad is pissing me off. When it is non-responsive for the first 10 minutes after a boot up, it will default to maxing out the volume by itself. So if you're not paying attention and open a video, the volume will be excruciatingly loud. Has anyone found a fix yet or is Dell still dicking around?

Had the exact same problem, nothing fixed it, in the end Dell sent someone over to replace the black cover for the touch buttons, and that has (kind of) fixed the whole volume up problem.

    No...

But you are still having problems with the touchpad? Dell sent someone here 3 days ago. Changed out the touchpad/panel assembly, they no longer have the "spilt milk" design on the panel. The pad is functioning fine for the first time since July, using the 1537 drivers for now, but the tech didn't ground something and we are getting shocked at the ports and the fingerprint reader. Dell is sending the tech back again, and with yet another motherboard just in case....I'm getting fed up with the service techs. Not one of them has known anything about the proper wiring or re-assembly of these units. I'm sure they get some training, but on this model? It doesn't seem likely.

Mine's a little uneven too on my 1537. Doesn't bother me, though; it's barely perceptible and it works fine. The backlight is really nice, too.

Besides that, I have two dead pixels (meh, I hardly notice them) and the touchpad doesn't always register a tap as a left-click, which is a little irritating. I did the sound driver fix for the speakers, and from sleep or hibernate the media bar can take 10 minutes before it's working properly again (BIOS issue?).

Besides all that I'm very happy with it. The niggles are minor at worst, really.

Fixes the barely audible volumes to something decent, and reduces the "blown speaker impression" crackling. At least on mine.

Add another 1537 to the list. I've read in a previous threads that the cause of the problem often is that the cables haven't been properly seated on the board. Don't feel like taking this apart at the moment, will try in a week when I've got a minute. Want to upgrade the ram too.

Got my 1537 a few days ago.
Graphite with black u-trim, very happy that i went with black rather than the blue, it looks very sleek.
Quality is nice, keyboard seems to be a little raised in the middle with a little flex, not a big deal though.
No milky pattern on the arm rest, it came with the slim power pack with the blue ring on the connector, looks neat.
Reformated, tweaked vista a little, it's running very smooth, the T3200 seems to work well, i was a little worried how it might handle video playback but its been fine so far.

The keys are not ment to be removed and replaced. The keys will eventually start falling off if you do that.

The keyboard is one part. If it is making noise call customer service and request a new keyboard. You are also under your 21 day return period so you can even request a replacement or refund.

I recommend using an external USB keyboard for daily typing if you're using it an office environment. It reduces the wear and tear on the laptop itself.

    Hello everyone!

So i've had my Dell 1535 with a Mike Ming cover since november now and overall i love it. This is my first laptop, i've always just used the family desktop before this.

There are a few things that bother me though...

1: When i close the lid and put it to sleep it doesn't urm wake up again. The only way to sort it is to hold the power button down and turn it back on again.

2: That old problem i've read about with the eject button on the touch panel grrrrr.

3: A very sticky left Cntrl key.

4: Bad crackly sound even through decent speakers, and whilst doing other tasks as simple as posting this message, the music i have playing has this broken record effect!

Now i was toying with the idea of calling up Dell as the problems although minor, are grating a bit now and i have very little technical knowledge. The problem being that i bought the laptop from a UK Ebay seller and it appears to have come from the states.

Any help with the problems would be much appreciated as i'm not sure if Dell in the UK will help as i didn't buy direct from them.

If it helps, it came boxed and sealed with a quick reference guide, a product info guide and all the discs.

    I have a...

    Dello studio 1535
    3gb RAM
    160 GB Hard Drive
    ATI Radeon 3450
    Core 2 Duo, T8100
    Standard LCD screen
    Vista home premium

Many thanks for any help at all :)

The stock speakers on my Studio 1537 are rubbish just like any other laptop or netbook. I use my Logitech Z-5 USB speakers which sound good but malfunction because the media touch pad on the 1537 locks up. I can't manually adjust the volume (USB interface) if the media touch pad and OS are on the fritz.

Yes i've tried WMP, Real Player, I-Tunes, Real Player and even PC-DJ. There is what i can only describe as a contant hiss whilst using earphones too. I Listen to alot of music whilst messing around on the net so it bugs me alot, especially the skipping effect whilst the Laptop is loading things up.

I thought that 3Gb RAM and a 2.1 core 2 duo would be able to handle playing music and performing simple tasks on the web easily.

Also when i log in to Vista it seems to take a good 15 seconds to recognise that i've hit enter on my password.

It's a shame cos i love the laptop but after a while the things i thought i could tolerate are getting annoying.

Lol it would help if i knew a little more the technical stuff but unfortuately i'm rubbish haha.

Do a clean install, there's a guide in the Dell Forum - it'll speed up your notebook no end (you mightn't notice it at first while Vista sets itsself up, but after 3-4 days it'll be lightning fast).
After that, disable the a-band wireless, that should improve your sound hiss.

As for the eject issue I'm going to try calling Dell. Wish me luck.

My Studio 15 has also 3 GB of RAM and a T5800 at 2.0 GHz and I'm not experiencing such issues, I don't think it's a problem with the specs. You should monitor your CPU usage and processes sucking your CPU.

Same. I got into that habit with my old laptop, since one of my cats thinks it's a nice warm place to sit, and I'd rather he sat on the lid than the keyboard (he actually managed to change some settings on the old laptop!) so I close it whenever I go AFK. :)

Of course, that machine didn't have as nice a lid as the Studio...

I just ordered a tangerine orange 1537 with a P8400. Can't wait to try this guy out! I've owned Macs for the last decade, with the exception of an IBM T42 I still use for work. So this'll be my first Personal use PC.

I've never used Vista but from what I've read here, I should do a clean install first thing?

Is there anything else anyone recommends doing at first? I think I read something about changing the sound by disabling something?

Thanks for all the useful info. I'm sure I'll be reading lots of this thread before my Studio gets here.

First thing make sure all the hardware works before you go installing any apps. My Studio 15 didn't have too much Bloat Ware installed except for some Roxio DVD software and a few things I just uninstalled. I didn't do a clean install on this one, but I did on the Inspiron 6000 which had so much more junk pre-installed.
The speakers can be tested, if they sound horrible and scratchy make sure the "bass boost" and other enhancements are turned off. You'll be getting all the newer drivers so you won't have to worry about updates that came out last year for the older 1535 units. Problem areas seem to be the media strip, the touchpad, the DVD eject function. Be sure to test these several times the first week. Good Luck with your new system, they are pretty awsome when you get a good build.
