Well... before I upgraded to 64 bit the device manager only said "Standard Modem" with an MS driver. Everest Ultimate report states the same. The original Dell build sheet states nothing about a modem.
Looking at the 1537 case ther is no connection port for a modem (RJ-11 telephone jack).
Maybe a driver for a USB modem....???
I'm confused.....
I will talk to my client. She may have plugged this the thing into a DSL connection... yeah.... thats the ticket....![]()

I want one! Mine came with the Centrino sticker but it should say "Centrino 2"
-
Does anyone know if the Studio 1555s have been shipping on schedule? I ordered one today and the estimated delivery date is July 14th, should I expect the computer to come then? I keep reading about the delays when the 1537s first came out.
-
I think some Centrino setups have WWAN built-in. I am not entirely sure. -

For what its worth, the 1537 and 1737 have become "outlet" items on Best Buy's website, with a slight price drop on each. This is probably a signal that these two machines will no longer be sold at Best Buy or BestBuy.com pretty soon. Perhaps Best Buy will be getting a version the 1555, never know. My 1537 came from Best Buy and I'm really happy with it. At the time of purchase, an exactly configured machine from Dell.com would have cost me at least $100 more -- plus I was able to walk out of the store with it that day, no waiting. Just wanted to give a heads up!

Yeah, I was just at Best Buy this weekend, and they're still way behind on new models. The only Studio 15 they had on display was an old 1535 model, and they don't have the 1555 in stock yet. They also don't have the Studio 14z, nor the Studio XPS 16, and the only Inspiron model they have is the 1545.
-
I could see the 14z being a very good model for Best Buy, as well.
To anyone that might be interested in buying a Dell at Best Buy -- skip the Geek Squad extended service plan!!!

This is a little off-topic, but not really
Shroom, I think I've seen posts of yours around where you have the Dell bluetooth travel mouse, is that right? I've been giving serious thought to grabbing one of those (looks nice, especially for the price) and a bluetooth card to add to my Studio 1537 laptop, then I dont have to worry about a dongle for a wireless mouse which I will surely lose at some point, somehow, because well thats just how I am lately :-D
Anyway, just wanted to get a recent update on what you think of that mouse? Still liking it? Do the batteries last a decent amount of time? Does it track well on different surfaces (bed, table, mousepad)? Decent response? I won't be using it for gaming, just regular mouse stuffs -- okay well I will be using it for gaming, if you count solitaireha ha
Thanks...

It's an awesome mouse. For starters, it's one of the few BT mice that actually have 5 buttons (left click, right click, wheel, two thumb buttons), and side scrolling. I bought it in March, and using the batteries that came with it, it's still going strong. It does have an on/off switch to save power.
I use on my bed, my pant leg, my wooden desk, hard-surface mouse pad...it doesn't seem to have any tracking issues I've noticed yet.
It's not really meant to be a gaming mouse, but I do play a bit of UT2k4 with it.
For the price, it offers a lot. Go for it. And not having to worry about a USB dongle sure is nice. -
Shroom, I think your post pretty much seals the deal. Thanks!
One more quick question... Does having bluetooth on significantly impact your battery life on your Studio 15? I'm curious as to how much of a hit I will take if I add the BT card. I wasn't sure if the hit would be small (10 minutes) or big (30+ minutes) or somewhere inbetween.
Thanks!
~Aryq~ -
I haven't noticed anything significant. If there is a difference, it can't be more than like 10 minutes.
-
Great, thanks!

Was just at a different Best Buy than the one I was at last night (buying a Wii game -- The Conduit)... and this one did not have the 14z as the other did, but this one DID have the Studio 1555 for sale. $649.99 (so $50 less than the 1537 was selling for)... Too many people around so I couldnt really check out all the specs, except it was the standard screen, 4gb of ram, 320gb HDD ... and I think still the 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo. Just FYI in case anyone wondered.
Ciao
~Aryq~ -
It might have an intergrated gpu thats why its cheap, if it wasnt then it was a good price.
-
I'm sure it probably did -- the older 1537 did as well. I just wasn't able to stand at the machine long enough to find out -- too many obnoxious kids running around the laptops... ugh
~Aryq~ -
The 1555 is now up on Best Buy's website. They dropped the 9 cell from the 1537 they were selling and went with the 6 cell on the 1555 for this retail configuration -- which explains the $50 price drop over the 1537.

Hello guys. May I know what temperature does this correspond to in CPUID Hardware Monitor? Thanks.
-
became a new owner today! heres my specs:
black chainlink
vista home premium 64bit
p8600 2.4ghz
4gb ram
320gb hdd
900p led screen
intel 5300 wireless-n card
intel 4500mhd video card
bluetooth
standard keyboard
6-cell battery
at first, i was worried that it was going to be too big as i wanted to be able to carry it around to many places. turns out, its not too big; though shedding off half an inch from the width wouldnt hurt. im loving the 900p led screen and the speakers. oh, and the blue ring around the power cord is very cool too. -
Has anyone tried installing Studio 1555's Quickset on a Studio 1535? Does it work? I noticed that the Studio 1555's Quickset has nicer user interface.
-
Might as well try it. Not like there's really anything to lose if it doesn't work...just reinstall the old QuickSet.
-
Has anyone else noticed on their studio 1535,36,37 the left hand corner of the palm rest is kind of "Raised" and creeks when pressure is applied to it?
-
Never happened to me.

i am having some prob with my dell bluetooth travel mouse. the duracell AA battery which comes with it has end their life last monday. so, today (saterday) i bought a newpair of duracell AA battery. but when i try to remove the old battery from the dell mouse i found some kind of liquid was coming out of the mouse and old battery both which is very strange to me. but anyways, i clean all the mouse with good care and put the new battery and switch on the mouse. but strangle the mouse is not working anymore. cause my os (kubuntu 9.04) not detecting the mouse anymore.
i tried with "hcitool scan", but no luck. its just not detected anymore. everyother bluetooth device is detected but not the mouse.
i really dont know or have no idea wat happend. is my mouse is dead
plz help.
thx -
double post deleted. sorry guys.
-
Yeah the liquid coming from the battery was battery acid. Batteries leak when they have been left in a device for a long period of time (few months or so). The acid probably got into the circuitry of the mouse and is shorting it out, or it damaged some part of it. It is acid after all.
Try and open up the mouse see if there is acid inside, and if so, clean it out (carefully!). You might get it working after that.
Also, it could be completely unrelated to the battery acid. Try it on another computer and see if it recognizes it.
Hope that helps.
-Dan -
It seems like your battery may have leaked acid into the inside of the mouse. Depending on where the acid got, it may have damaged some internal components. I think you should call Dell and see what they can do about it under warranty.
EDIT - Ductapemaster is a ninja. -
my warranty period is over on last 11th august. so dell may not want to help me. i have to fix it myself.the question is that how will i open the mouse. cause there is no screw in it, i cant see any locks. i am noob to this.
this is the mouse that came with my dell studio 1535.

any help? -
I have that exact mouse. Good choice.
As for opening it up, I'm not sure. You may have to snap the two plastic halves apart. -
thx, for the helps friends. but i dont think i will take the risk to open it. its safe to give it to some pro.
-
I would probably say go out and buy a new mouse; getting someone to repair it is going to cost more than a new mouse.
-
-
i think i can open the mouse, i will try to open it and clean it very carefully. if it works after that, then it will be good for me otherwise i will go for a new mouse.
-
the dell studio 1535 has a mobile SIM card slot below the battery at the back. it an be read or accessed with a wwan card installed. but is it possible to use/utilize this without any wwan cards? like sim access etc...
has anyone tried it. plz respone with details.
thx in advance. -
Is it normal for laptop speakers to get distorted when playing high-pitched sounds or certain audio frequencies? It's happening to my Studio 1535. The distortion can be heard even when I set the volume to around 30 for Vista's volume control. I know that the speakers on this laptop are not that good. But I'm not sure whether they are faulty. Should I notify Dell about this? I've been thinking about this issue for quite some time. Thanks.
-
-
Yeah, the Studio 1535-1537 models were infamous for having sub-par speakers, even for a notebook.
-
I just received my new Dell Studio 1555 two weeks ago, and I'm totally in love with it. Luckily found this website the day before I bought it, and found a 10% discount coupon. So my laptop only cost $1660 AUD.
Here are my specs:
Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz/1066MHz FSB/3MB L2 Cache
4GB DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB
15.4" 1080p LED
Backlit Keyboard
Mike Ming Bunch 'O' Surfers Case Design
9 Cell Battery
Windows Vista Home Premium x32 SP3
I was also wondering what the differences between the Studio 1537 and 1555 were?
I've also noticed that many people are complaining about their speakers, yet mine seem to function fine for integrated laptop speakers. Was this issue fixed for the 1555? -
-
Externally, they are very similar. The 1555 is slightly shorter and wider than the 1537. The ports are slightly different as well; the 1555 has 3 USB ports compared to the 1537 which had 4. The 1555 has an ExpressCard 34 slot, the 1537 had ExpressCard 54.
The 1555 speaker system is a huge improvement over the 1537's, including its own 1 inch 2.5W subwoofer. The most obvious difference to most people, though, is the media controls. The 1537 had touch-sensitive buttons between the keyboard and speaker grill. The 1555 has all the media functions mapped to the F1-F12 keys. -
I need help with my IDT-drivers guys!
My 1555 has this wierd audio-effect that auto-changes the volume during music. It really annoys the crap outta me and i gotta find a way to turn it off. It's like some sounds fades in depending on whats happening on the song.
I have turned down SRS Focus to 0%, it gets better but the effect is still not OFF.
Anyone has a clue on what to do? -
Didn't the 1535 run on the 965 chipset? If so, I'd actually say the internals are probably the biggest difference, as there are quite a few core performance increases with that chipset versus the GM/PM45 chipset in the Studio 1555.
-
Yeah, the 1535 had the 965, although he was asking for details between the 1537 and 1555. The 1537 was physically identical to the 1535 in every way except for the 45 chipset. So, the 1537 and 1555 are both Montevina laptops.

Guys Help me!!! I have a problem with my DELL STUDIO 15 1535 laptop. When ever i boot my system the eject sensor button lights on for 2 to 3 min during that time it is trying to eject the cd/DVD no matter wheather it has the CD /DVD inside or not. This is frustrating for me. I made a complain in DELL support and the engineer came and replaced the part but still i have the problem. Sorry for my poor English.
-
There is a thread about this, use the search function. In that thread there is a link to the X0D firmware, which fixes this rather common issue. Just download it, burn it to a CD, and boot from it.
-
Thanks Mastershroom it solved my problem. This is what i was waiting for.

Hi ppl
I am planning to buy a Studio 15 in another 2 days....I am in a fix with regards to whether to go for a 6 cell battery or a 9 cell battery ...
How much does it change the look?and does the 9 cell one juts out in the back like this http://www.fastrackcomputing.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=374&stc=1&d=1183476263
or does it jut out under like this
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3468770&postcount=5
and also how much does it make a difference to the weight? -
-
Since you too own a 9 cell one is the carrying part kinda manageable?
