Well, just thought I'd mention that i just ordered as well. Estimated shipping date is 10/7. I got the black one with 1.3 webcam, 16gb ssd, 1gb ram, Windows XP. Hmm, I kinda feel like this was an impulse buy, but eh. Hopefully I actually use it for school work like I promised myself =).
-
Nice!
That's the next day after my bro's is supposed to be shipped (enhances on *supposed*) hee hee!!!!
He got the black also...over the white!
Sometimes impulse buy's are good...it's just not regretting it on the latter ~ after you have it!Well, I hope when you receive it your happy!

I can't tell..is that a more *subdued* red, or of a brighter red?
(I'm on my work computer...and can never see the *trueness* in photo's here, unfortunately...(even w/new monitors)....

Hello,
Today September 17th I was a happy one, waiting for my Inspiron mini. I had ordered it on september 4th, just when Dell launched sales of this Model. So 13 days later, today at 14h (GMT+2, Paris, France), an UPS man gives me the packet.
Everything seems fine, packaging is quite well, in perfect state. I see me as the one who published three days ago a video showing his unpackaging.
Great disapointment: screen was largely broken in three parts, with a big (6 cm diameter) black hole in the center (see photo below).
Five minutes later I get Dell assistance on phone. I do explain the situation and get as answer: "please send me photos of the screen, next we will come take you computer, check the problem, and open a new order to the factory. We cannot do other way, for we have no stocks, and cannot repair a screen on site".
--> It will take mindestens two/three weeks, considering the process, before I get a new one.
I am very angry against Dell. I order Dell computers for my companies for 13 years. I never had to complain from support, til this case today. And it is certain that screen was broken when it was packaged. Poor quality control from Dell, which always advanced quality.
Have anyone had similar problem with Inspiron mini screens?
Friendly

I hope mine doesn't arrive like that.
What a let down, to get the mini, and then you can't use it. -
I am so, so..sorry for what you are going thru
You expected to receive a *brand new model*, and instead received a broken screen, w/a hole in it....All from being poorly packaged.
It's somewhat dissapointing to here this considering it has just been released. And, I understand that sometimes..things do not go the way we planned them..
The I9 is so new that I hadn't heard of anyone that has had this situation happen to them. (Unless someone actually has, and they can chime in).
I guess..the good thing is that you are getting a new one in w/in the next 2 - to 3 weeks...but, the waiting..once again is the hardest part.
I know some peep's who have had things like this happen have asked for something extra..*compensation*...maybe ask Dell, if..because of what happened, being new and all, and how you were really excited to receive it..if hey can do anything for your inconvenience..
I'm sorry again for what happened....

Sorry to hear about the guy upthread who got the busted Mini. Mine is expected to ship 9/26 (Win XP) and I wanted to see what brand of 2gig Ram i should buy to upgrade it.
-
Has anyone else had their US-bound mini order in the 'boxing stage' since Monday morning?
1) When it changes to 'shipped' will the order status webpage and phone update at the same time or is the phone always faster?
2) Will the order status change during the day as it is shipped or it a once-a-day update type thing?
I'm so anxious - I check the order status every 2 minutes
Thanks! -
-
I had the same ESD. Maybe your's is waiting for mine in China? Mine is still stuck in the build stage.
I hope they don't brake ours. -
The bag is a pretty bright deep red. Looks really nice in contrast to the black. My reason for getting the red one, is in hopes that I won't lose it easily as the mini is so small. I see myself forgetting to take it home!
-
I don't think you have to worry about losing it with the red color! Red is good

Some information that I was given by a Dell rep:
I called the main Dell number, and asked for an order status. I very politely asked the dell rep why the ESD was almost 3 weeks away, he put me on hold and said he'd find out. He came back and explained that not only was the processor back ordered but the motherboard as well. I knew Intel was making those Atoms as fast as they could, but I guess there is also a shortage of motherboards.
This was yesterday, I checked my order status today, because I'm waiting like everyone else, and without either party saying a word yesterday, I now have next day shipping. I never asked for anything, he never said he was doing anything, it's just there. So, for those people who have standard shipping, you might want to ask out of curiosity if the rep knows what the hold up is
Also, don't forget about AAA discounts ( http://www.aaa.com/dell ), my 6% saved me $25. That combined with the fact that black on the $449 model was $25 less, I think I got a good deal, don't need bluetooth or a camera.... -
I ordered on 9/4 , supposed to be shipped this week, but my order says "in production" as it has since the day after I ordered. I am not expecting it to ship on time, if it does it will be a pleasant surprise (more so if it shipped tomorrow and arrived on Friday...).
I'd guess this is a pretty popular product launch for Dell, so no matter what, the units should be spilling our of their distro centers pretty fast, they have a lot riding on this new species of laptop... -
-
I've seen someone post a picture of their order status where it says the 'WWAN Base LCD Assembly ' or something similar - mine doesn't say WWAN.
Does anyone in the US have WWAN in their order parts list or is that just Europe/UK? -
-
Does anyone else have the WWAN in their US order? -
-
lol... Well, the reason that I'm not a very happy camper is because this is how I see it playing out:
When I ordered, I had to choose a camera, the no camera option wasn't given. That's an extra $15 or so
Then I find out that people who ordered after me might be WWAN ready with a simple pop-in to add the capability in the future while mine might be crippled and require a USB wwan card
Then I hear rumors that in the coming weeks Dell will partner with a wireless carrier to subsidize the cost of the Mini that i just shelled out for
And now we're probably only a short period of time away from the 10" screens or larger (according to the leaked product page on a large uk dealers site)
Oh well - I can never win :0)
Oh, and I have 2nd day shipping. Which means that if it ships tomorrow, I have to wait the weekend until next Monday to get it instead of Friday.
I just want my baby out of the boxing stage and into the shipping stage! ;-) -
I ordered my I9 on 9/6 with an ESD of 9/22. Black, 1 GB ram, 16 GB SSD, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3 MP Camera, and XP Home. The automated phone lady said it was in "boxing stage" on Friday last week (9/12) around noon. So here I am on Wednesday (9/17) and it still says "Boxing Stage" and I'm thinking...hmm... I know they have the whole send it over from the other side of the world, but 5 days? Really now... I called customer service yesterday and the guy told me he could see it was in the final stages and it would probably be 2-3 days, but if it does ship sooner the ship date would not change till it actually shipping (duh). So here I sit, waiting, calling, checking my email, trying to speculate based on when other people ordered and where their orders are, when mine will ship...HOPEFULLY soon. I already have my 16 GB SD card, and my 2 GB RAM upgrade here waiting for it... HURRY DELL! O also... I'm a US customer.
-
I ordered mine later than most... on 9/12. Mine is in "Build" stage right now, but I gotta tell ya, if it means getting the wwan stuff ready to go in mine, it can take a little longer and I wouldn't care!
My ESD is 9/29.... very early in the dreaded long wait, checking status every 30 minutes on the web... -
-
but, there's always hope that during the build process they have to 'use what's available' so to speak... if WWAN enabled motherboards are all that are available, maybe that's what will ship?
long shot, I know... -
Well, I plan on using the mini pci-e headers to solder in a 32gb thumb drive.... That'll help solve the space limitations for me. If your going to do something like that, it's probably better to not have the header present.

This is a popular thing to do on the EEE, but nobody can tell you where to find the 5V point, I'll take pics if nobody beats me to it. I might wait 21 days to make sure I'm happy with the unit first though... -
OMG OMG OMG OMG. I think I *may* have a heart attack.
Status just changed to "Shipped" ;-)
;-P me so happy. Well, except for the WWAN thing. but yay -
PS - Has anyone in the US had their mini shipped yet or was todays shipment the first batch?
-
that's not cool... I ordered before you and you shipped before me? Man Dell...
-
When you call 1-800-433-9014 what do they tell you? -
-
Still says boxing stage, where it's been for 5 days... Wha shipping did you get?
-
Now, when you get the tracking number...I bet you have a separate window for *DHL* open so you can constantly track!
And everyone else...it looks like you all ordered around the same time, and with almost the same ESD's...It won't be soon before long for you either
(Im so jealous...I want my RED)it will come out soon, I'm sure!
Kudo's on being in *shipped* status~!

I have 2nd day shipping too.. They are slacking over there..
-
feel better boxers, i ordered with or before you and i'm still building...
-
Who did you guys call to get your shipping changed to 2 days.
I've bought a TON of computers for work and home from dell in the past and never had to wait this long. I ordered mine literally within an hour of when it was announced. I'm really shocked that its taken this long to get them out and I'm worried that they're pushing all these orders to the original estimated ship date.
Also has anyone noticed on the Dell site there are two reviews for this machine by people claiming to be from Pennsylvania, and they seem to be incredibly questionable reviews. -
I read both reviews, I didn't notice anything questionable about them.
-
Apparently there are now shipping delays... Shortage of components... So long waits could be the norm for now... hopefully it will get better in the next month...
-
"I chose the Ubuntu version and was not disappointed."
The ubuntu version is in preorder. -
-
I'm so tired of waiting. How would a part shortage make my order that has been in "Boxing stage" since last friday ship late? That makes no sense. Unless they decided I dont need one and are stripping the parts off mine for others. Ok j/k on the last part. But seriously, with mine "in the final stages of production" according to the Dell rep I talked to, how is a parts shortage going to change my ship date?
-
A question: what kind of times during the day does dell ship? Is if possible it could ship out while i'm asleep tonight, or do they only ship during day time hours?
-
I checked the DHL shipping status of my order and it said:
"9/17/2008 12:00 am Shipment Acknowledged Nashville, TN"
But the status didn't go to shipping till about 5PM EST which is 17 hours later. Perhaps yours has been transported to DHL but Dell just hasn't updated the information yet. -
huh... that could be i guess... I FREAKING HOPE! That would be cool with me if it was out and I didnt know...
-
I'm actually going into the office on Friday *only* because I'm expecting the package!
