Sorry, but that's not accurate. The white isn't cheaper, the black is more expensive.

Prior: White was the color for $449, black was -$25 at $424
Now $449 for both white and black, black is "Add $0"

I didn't realized the upped the starting price. They're pricing structure is confusing at times. Nevermind...those that ordered black, it's like you got a $25 freebee.

Sure, but I am not exactly sure what you mean by that. Do you want a picture of the hinge area? If so, see below.

    Hinge 1
    Hinge 2
    Hinge 3

I just installed 2GB of RAM, works great. I just swapped the RAM out of my M1530. I figured I can get by with only 3GB until I get around to ordering more for it.

Is that the 8GB SSD? I read somewhere that the 16GB is an Intel SSD with slightly better performance specs.

Actually, the STEC drives are benchmarking higher than the Intels. According to this ARTICLE 4GB and 8G SSDs are Intels and the 16GB SSDs are STEC.

    fknelite,

Is there a SIM card slot behind the battery? Like the photo in the Service Manual?

There appears to be a little card slot behind the battery that would fit a SIM card.

I wonder if the SIM reader is disabled. Dell probably disabled that when they took out the connector port for the WWAN. Not a big deal to me. I'm going to end up tethering my Blackberry via Bluetooth or USB anyway.

I'll bet the sim slot is just a dummy slot. Old iPaq's used to be like this... they used the same case for the ipaq phone model as the regular ipaq, so they just left the sim slot behind the battery but it didn't have anything wired in.

Yup, -$25 for black and $-25 for AAA discount brought the $449 down to $400, which is a GOOD deal.... especially since black is my color anyway.

I just stuck my SIM card in mine but I think there is something missing. I had to get some tweezers to pull it out. I think I could have pushed it all the way in. Upon closer inspection I realized that I couldn't even see any contacts for the SIM card. I didn't try booting it up.

I opted out of the internal bluetooth since I have a variety of USB dongles. I'm having a hell of a time getting XP to connect with my Motorola ht820 stereo headphones. I've tried Bluesoleil, WIDCOMM...

Yeah typing is definitely going to take some getting used to as the key rows are staggered weird.

Overall, it feels like a quality product. I've used a 13.3" Panasonic Toughbook that cost almost $2000 that didn't feel nearly as rugged as the Dell Mini. Took me a good two hours and three reinstalls of Bluesoleil to get bluetooth working properly, but so far I love it. I wouldn't have minded if Dell widened the unit by an inch to fix some of the issues with the oddly placed keys (quotation marks).

Battery life is excellent. Streaming video looks great.

I abandoned installing Office 2007 and decided I can use Word Pad just as easily and Google Docs if I need spreadsheets or slideshows.

..mine did arrive today, early to boot. Immediately installed a 2gb module and began to delete the m0oderate level of bloatware present... I killed the cache and disabled compression and indexing. The thing is amazingly responsive, very quick feeling. So far I am very impressed.

    Pros:
    Solid construction
    peppy performance
    beautiful screen for its size
    Great for pocket web surfing

    Cons:
so far, only the somewhat bizzare key layout

My todo list now, I have yet to decide what to do about the MS works, I have a copy of MS office 2007 but really am thinking I may well just blow off Works and put a copy of Open Office on it. I kinda live and die by MS word however, and I seem to have problems with redline edits in open office... may have to somehow slim down a partial office install eventually....

I'm an avid gamer, trying to figure out what old time game might fit, and be playable in the tiny screen .... was thinking about trying to get Diablo 2 to work ... not certain of it compatibility tho .... some4+ yr old game would have to be ideal for this..... what will it be....

Thanks. This seems like a great deal on 2GB even though there is a rebate involved.

Do you think its worth getting the Kingston 800 from Newegg that was mentioned earlier on page 27 that had a higher speed of 6400 or should I go ahead and get this deal on the Crucial from Fry's that has 5300 speed? How much of a speed difference would I expect in the Mini between these?

Whereas the laptop has VGA out and also almost every LCD accepts VGA therefore the laptop can connect to almost any LCD.

Is 8MB video memory enough to display all the pixels in that 22inch screen? Has anyone confirmed that it really has more than 8MB shared video memory?

I ordered mine on 9/13 with an ESD of 9/29. Im going crazy waiting for it. Everyone tells me I'm very patient for things, but this is insane!

There is only 8MB, but I would guess that would be enough.

Edit: Actually, it says 8MB when I load up GPU Z but upon reading at intel.com it appears that it dynamically increases the amount of memory up to 224MB if needed

Anyone else have the problem with the battery only showing percentage left and not giving a time estimate?

BTW, if you have the problem that I had where it resets the resolution to default upon restart, just download the video drivers Intel and re-install.

My battery does not show the time remaining. I am going to look for a separate program that estimates the time remaining.

I am learning how to type without using contractions because the apostrophe/quotation mark is in such a stupid place.

    I tried this: http://www.tucows.com/preview/505527

It estimates the time remaining as 00:00....

Maybe it is a feature missing from the laptop itself.
