Heh, now mine shows shipped as well.... looks like I do not have to steal someone else's afterall. ESD 1 day ahead of schedule. Kudo's to Dell if it bears out![]()
-
Does anyone else have their DHL status stuck at "Shipment data received"? DHL is saying that they haven't even received the package yet... yet my ESD is tomorrow and dell said shipped yesterday
-
Mine says
9/18/2008 12:00 am Shipment Acknowledged Nashville, TN
As as a side note, Dell sent it via ground even though my order was Next Business Day, although DHL still says its going to arrive tomorrow. -
DHL also said that the waybill is for ground while dell said it's 2nd day.
Atleast I'm not the only one. I hope that Dell just messed up the tracking #'s and assigned a new one without telling me. -
-
I've been pretty lucky with Dell shipments since they switched to DHL. I like everyone else check my status frequently. I recently ordered an XPS 1530 and it shipped on 9/16 and I received it on 9/17. My shipments are always free and ground shipping, but I always end of getting the items next day. I guess it must be because I'm so close to Nashville. Check out the image, it appears that item is acknowledged in Nashville on 9/16 @ 12 am, but ends up in Atlanta 21 hours later 9/16 @ 9:22 pm and then at my door almost 12 hours later @ 9:53 am on 9/17. Maybe this will happen for most everyone that had their status changed to shipped lately. I can't wait to get mine.
-
Woah, Just checked my status and....
Shipped Date: 9/18/2008
Est. Delivery Date: 9/19/2008
Ordered 9/16.
@#(*$@#(*$ This means I have to go into work tomorrow! -
Had to call Dell because the tracking number wasn't available on the website. After sitting through three separate recordings telling me that the Dell Costumer Service agents didn't have any more information than was available on My Account on www.dell.com, the Dell person gave me my tracking number
WOOOT
-
Wow... by the way the timbuk2 case for the mini that I ordered today:10/31/2008 - crazy!
-
-
-
Luuuuuucky!
-
i got dhl but mine is prolly gonna be 3-5 and not next day like you guys (unless i'm super lucky)
-
Well, not 45 minutes ago I spoke with DHL and they insisted that they hadn't received the package from Dell.
Now, the DHL status page just updated for the first time since 9/17/2008 12:00 am to say that the package is in PA.
I understand that the DHL status site might be slow, but how did three different DHL reps not know that the package was even in their company's possession? -
PS - Sorry for constantly updating you guys with what's going on. I do it for 2 reasons:
1) It helps me vent and share my thoughts on this *annoying* process with people who will understand
2) Hopefully will give people who are in the same position as me an idea of what to expect. I guess the main lesson I learned are:
* Dells boxing stage takes a 3-4 days. During which time the reps will tell you that it will ship in 2-3 business days, even if it was delivered to the courier a few hours prior. Dell reps have no way of know if the laptop is in Malaysia, Africa or the US
* DHLs tracking system is not just slow to update, their employees don't even know when their company has possession of a package. So even if they tell you that it hasn't been picked up, it may be delivered the next day!
* Patience is a virtual. But most of us cannot or do not want to be patient, including myself! -
Ive been saying Patience Patience Patience
-
So fellow I9 owners, those looking at buying, etc...could come here with q's concerns, updates, add information, etc.
Cin -
I wonder if we should just make one for netbooks since they will be coming out with a 12 inch soon..
-
I already knew that DHL was slow to update. I ordered some stuff off of newegg.com last week and i had the package in hand and it still didnt say delivered. They need to get that fixed. UPS is pretty good about that, but NOT DHL. ON a side note, i recently ordered a ipod shuffle. It shipped FedEx out of china one day, and I had it the VERY next day! How crazy is that? I didnt even order next day shipping. It just happen in some freak occurence...
I'm pretty excited about the mini coming tomorrow!!!!!!!
Also, my case shipped today as well. I ordered 2nd day shipping on my order (I bought everything at once) and you would think the sleeve would ship 2nd day as well, but not so. It has 3-5 day shipping. O well. I have a larger sleeve I can use till it gets here. Getting the mini is way more important. -
-
I have had god luck with DHL in the past. I think this is a dell issue. Even in the past when I got packaged fedex from them they seemed to appear in the tracking system then night before delivery. I have a feeling that Dell distributes them closer to the end user before handing them over to the shipping company.
Also, someone mentioned something about Fedex overnight from China. IP Direct Distribution which Fedex has mastered is the norm for Ipod and HP laptops which are not only manufactured but also finished in China. Basically, the same tracking number follows the laptop/ipod in a pallet and then Fedex deals with customs and then cuts the pallet open and sends everything right into the fedex express system.
By the way, mine is still in the "Build Stage" and seems to have the same specs as others who ordered. It's supposed to be delivered Tuesday...we'll see....
Maybe I am being hit by the part shortage.... -
I am really happy you are getting your I9 tomorrow!!!
And, also that you are not part of the part shortage!
Cin -
Mine went into ship status last night as well. Originally ordered on 9/4...original estimated ship date of 9/19. No concrete tracking info from DHL yet. Webcam 1GB, 16GB in Black. I'm in the US.
-
Mine was in the local facility at 6 AM today. I wonder when it will come to me.
-
I wonder if we're the first people in the US to get the Minis. Well, except for the rich ones who paid for overnight ;-) -
Cin -
Doubt mine will be today, but that's okay. Nashville to Austin TX can't take too long.
-

Just curious....does anyone know how many nits the Mini's display puts out??
-
I just thought I'd post this deal on RAM that I believe is compatible with the Dell Mini 9.
2GB DDR2 PC5300 SO-D CRUCIAL
12.99 AFTER REBATE
37.99 Before
http://shop2.frys.com/product/5442679 -
To anyone thinking about getting just 512 ram i would seriously recommend getting at least a gig, because the more ram you have the less often the laptop will have to write the hard drive cache - so in a laptop having more ram actually increases battery life
-
-
Hee hee cmarcho...I just saw this ROFL!!!
More pics and individual mini-reviews would be awesome from those that have just received their I9's...

Can you take a pic of the mini next to the 1530 with the lids up, and a web browser open to the same site? That would be a cool comparison picture to get an idea of the size of things. -
Unless you plan on changing the RAM. -
Quick first review - this thing is great. It's responsive, webpages look good on the screen and it's running smoothly.
The greatest hurdle so far is the keyboard... I never had to use a mini one before but after an hour or so I've started to get used to it. But:
* The "\" key is now a function key.. so typig C:\progra~1\blah\blah is a pain.
* The right shift key was moved and that added some typos.
* The delete key is where I expect the minus (-) to be
* The escape key is so close to the "1" that I kept hitting it instead of 1 and it kept closing the dialog boxes I was typing in to.
It came with bloatware (google stuff, webcam stuff, "Browser Address Error Redrector" etc).
After clearing out the bloatware and installing an app or two (VPN, SSH client, firefox, zonealarm suite) the usage was in the 3.6g range. Then, to improve performance, I disabled the disc compression and it's now at 4.68g used with 9.6g free.
I don't plan on putting movies/music on this device so 9.6g of free space is well more than enough.
It's definitely not a workhorse/desktop replacement, but if you're going on a bus ride, a 3 hour trip or out of your comfort size, it's a lot easier than lugging a regular latop.
I don't notice it getting hot at all either. It is very light. The design is solid - looks like a dell except the hinges, but solid and nice construction. It's very quiet - no sounds.
boot up time is quick. I didn't time it or anything but the 30-40 second ranges that were mentioned in the past sound right.
I'll have a more detailed review in a day or so
Overall - very happy with the decision -
Congrats to all of those who got theirs today. And thanks for the pictures and reviews.!
-
Dang...I just noticed the white option is now free when configuring the Mini. Those that ordered white (like me) should call and get a refund! That's $25 back.
