I like it! :) It's too bad that it didn't have removable straps on it...that way you could almost carry it like a *tiny messenger bag*/Cross Body (like a Photog' bag).

Or, very similar to this would be cool (but that's just my thinking):

Oh, of course the pink is cool...so girly! :)

I don't think I actually realized how small the Mini is until I got the slip case from dell.

Nope it is a BT Wireless:

    Highlights
*Features five easy to use buttons
    *Bluetooth enabled for wireless connectivity
    Feaures: Bluetooth, Conectivity: Wireless

It looks to be alot like the MS BT Wireless 5000 (an awesome BT Mouse) ;)

I got my Patriot Performance 8GB SDHC card, however I can't get the Zune desktop software to see the music that I put on it. I don't really need to have my music on there but it would be nice since I don't always have my Zune with me. Anyone else run into this issue?

The transmission is bluetooth based, but he's asking what type of optical sensor is used in the mouse.

Anyone have a problem with the desktop icons arranging alphabetically every time you boot? Auto arrange and all that stuff isn't the problem, it's not on. I do see a flicker and change in graphic quality when I boot, so I'm assuming the graphics drivers are kicking in right after the boot into Windows, so maybe that's what's causing the icons to sort themselves alphabetically all the time. Anyone have any ideas?

If anyone is looking for a case for the Dell Mini I bought this one from Amazon and it's great! It has a semi-hardshell case, is well made, and has a handle. I like the handle as it's easier to carry the laptop with less chance of dropping it.

This case fits the Mini perfectly and there is also an inner pocket for small accessories. AC adapter however, will not fit inside.

If it has a red light coming from the bottom it's an optical mouse. If it has no visible light source, it's a laser mouse.

the recycle bin is as best I can tell a permanent desktop fixture and it won't let you delete it. It annoys the heck out of me, so if someone knows a way to force delete the shortcut, please enlighten me.

That case looks nice. I ordered one although I really wish it had a place for the AC adapter. I might try to add an outside pocket--either an elastic mesh or a piggyback a la waterfield designs

How does the Mini 9 compare to the Acer Aspire One? Just wondering if anybody has seen both as the Acer comes with an 80GB HDD for about £80 less than the Mini 9, obviously the dell will be better build quality though but the 16GB HDD is a bit small.

I'll be getting my Mini 9 in about a week and when I do, I'll probably have another look in Currys or PCWorld at the Acer for a comparison. When I saw the AAO before, I wasn't that impressed- it hadn't survived that well as a display model and looked pretty scruffy. I also *really* couldn't stand the touchpad buttons- I guess that's the equivalent of the weird keyboard on the Dell.

I can only see 120GB HDD AAOs, though, and I'm not sure which models you're comparing to get the £80 price difference- do you want Linux or Windows? The AAOs I've seen have been the Linpus Linux ones and my Mini 9 will be the Ubuntu Linux version.

In terms of spec differences the Dell has bluetooth and no fan versus the larger HDD and the availability of a bigger battery on the Acer, but the strange touchpad button locations versus the strange keyboard layout is going to be where the compromise is for a lot of folks between the AAO and the Dell. It's a bit harder to get your mitts on the Dell to play around with it, though.

IMHO the 16 GB hard drive is plenty big for this computer. Its base purpose is for a computer you can easily take anywhere not be a highly functional machine. The only reason I can see you wanting to have a large hd space is if you were going to take it on vacation and you wanted to load it up with music or movies. Then you could just get a 16 gig SDHC card and load that up with some music or just bring your ipod.

Also, one of the reasons it can remain fanless is becuase of the SSD HD. Hd's heat up, if they went that route, they might not have been able to remain fanless...

And if they'd had a fan then the fan would have needed power and space which are at a premium in a netbook, never mind the noise that fans generate. I think Dell got it about right with the choice of SSD and the size. If they'd gone with a 32GB or bigger SSD, it would have become very expensive, more expensive than a netbook should really be. Though I guess the option wouldn't have hurt for those who wanted to cough up the extra cash... not that we get any options here the in the UK at all, grr.

In the end, Dell are marketing the Mini 9 as a device which you use when you don't need a lot of storage space (and they've been fairly clear IMO about what they think is the purpose of the Mini in interviews and so on). There seem to be a lot of differing opinions about what a netbook should and shouldn't be able to do and therefore what it should and shouldn't have in terms of specs. I guess if you don't agree with the manufacturer on what it's for, then you're looking at the wrong computer, because it's only ever going to disappoint you in what it doesn't do.

You're welcome. It's a good company. Their cases have some nice details that make them stand out above the others. I hope they decide to make some bags specifically for the mini.

Has anyone put a protector on the lid? I still have the plastic sheet that came from the factory and I'd like to get something more permanent. Invisible shield is kind of pricey and they don't have anything for the Mini yet. I would really be interested in any creative (cheaper) solutions that also look good. Thanks

Does any1 have any Tuts on how to install XP/Vista/Mac OS X/Ubuntu? (Without the need of a CD-Rom drive)?

A Tut on installing gOS (without a CD-ROm drive) would be amazing cause it has the best netbook compatibility outta all the OS`.

Toshiba and Samsung have just announced they will start making 32GB SSDs for netbooks, so up until this point 16GB was the biggest you could get. It should bring down the prices and allow for a decent sized hard drive to be used.

I am not sure, the I12 isn't even confirmed yet. I would probably like it better because my most beloved laptop was my M1210, it was so perfect in every way. I'm still waiting on my Lenovo S10 to ship! =x

Great news everyone! I think my SSD gave out. The BIOS will recognize it, but it the computer says that there is no OS. So I plugged in a USB CD/DVD drive and booted up windows install. That said it found the drive but could not access it... so I am on chat with dell tech support right now. This is just great.
