Alright, well I just finished with tech support and they are having me send it in for repair... I am kind of disappointed that it has done this after only 2 weeks...
O well. When it comes to computers you never know what to expect.

Ooish....I'm sorry for the troubles, and that you will be w/out your I9 for a bit.. :( Well, it's gonna be repaired..but for having this happen only 2 weeks after having it!!! That's just not a good thing. :nah:

I like after your having this happen, you still remain a bit optimistic (even though you are dissapointed). ;)
    Kudos there!

Thats what I thought, but got confused when someone told me that the processor has been designed mainly for mobile phones. Are you sure that it will run Vista very well, because when Vista starts on my Studio 15 it takes up 1.3 GB of RAM to begin with, so how will it manage with a 1GB RAM , plus there are storage issues with the 16 GB SSHDD.

Very sorry to hear that... :(

but if its only 2 weeks, shouldnt they give you a new one instead of having to repair it.

Vista SP1 runs flawlessly on the I910 with a bit of tweaking mainly to conserve SSD space...don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. ;)

Really hard to imagine Vista running on anything less than 2 gigs of RAM...then again, the Inspiron 9 hasnt release in India yet, so havent got the opportunity to work on it....

waiting for the release, If they price it reasonably,I will buy it....The only issue is the SS HDD space which can be fixed with an external HDD. :D

Since it's been less than 21 days since invoice you should call them back and request a new exchange. They should give it up. Might take awhile considering current estimated ship dates, but at least you will have a fresh start instead of a potential 'lemon'.

Well with Vista RAM works differently than any other OS... the more RAM that is available, the more Vista will use at idle. It's part of its optimization...

So if you have less RAM it will idle with less so that you will have more available for use with other things. :)

Well I don't think I want to wait a month for a new one. The entire repair process take 5-8 days. There are no scratches or anything to my mini where I would want a new one. Also, I fortunately kept all my files on usb drives and my sd card so I will just loose having all my apps already installed. It's a bummer but will just use up time.. O well. I will be up and running before they could ship a new one.

I just received a delay notice from Dell.

    Revised ship date - 10/6/08

    Needless to say, I'm unhappy.

Acrobat 9? Hmmm... better go check this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=302350

Orders with Acrobat 9 are invalid and they have to cancel and re-submit with Acrobat 8.1. Sounds incredibly stupid doesn't it? But it's true.

Might want to call Customer Service and check on the hold up.

Hello all! Newbie here! Just wanted to say hello! Also I ordered my mini 9 through QVC. It was supposed to ship 9/25. Just got an email stating that it's supposed to ship on 10/12 with delivery date of 10/29. I too am unhappy, but I'm glad I found you. Plus it's good to know that some of you lucky ducks already have yours!

To here's to waiting with the rest of us!

    Cheers!

I got my black timbuk2 case from dell today. i'm not 100% sure what to think of it. Its pretty nice as far as protecting the laptop, but the extra pouch is pretty small so I don't know how much you could fit into it, basically just the power supply and maybe a really small bluetooth mouse or something.

All in all though it will get the job done but dont expect to be using it to carry other stuff around with you. Also if you use the strap it ends up looking like a purse, which I guess might be unavoidable because of the size.

I received the Dell Mini 9 this morning (before work!) and I can't stress to you all how SMALL the thing is. The pictures, the comparisons, nothing does it justice until you actually pick the Mini up and see how light and small it is.

For those of you worried about SDD space, I got the 16gb, and even with XP and a full install of office 2007, I have almost 10gb left over. Plenty for Firefox and some other goodies.

I'm typing on it now, and it's not too bad. Definitely something I can see myself getting used to. I have giant-sized man hands, so if I can do it, anyone can :p

I, being a girl..would really like the straps, of course! ;) :)

Sweet! Those were very nice words you said about your I9..Congrat's on the receipt of it!!! Welcome to the I9 family ;) :) Enjoy!!! :D

There are specialized software given by the phone manufacturers for connecting the phone to the laptop. For Nokia its the PC Suite. Not sure what model you use. In the software there is an option called connect to the internet. If you click that it will ask you how to connect, you should click on Bluetooth. Make sure the bluetooth is switched on before doing that. Once you have the phone connected to the laptop with the bluetooth, you will to configure the connection with settings provided by your service provider.

PS: Some phones like the iPhone cannot be used as a modem to connect to your laptop to the internet.

Assuming your phone supports tethering, download IVT Bluesoleil. It's one of two programs for Windows that works with all Bluetooth protocols.

First thing I would recommend anyway is to remove any revision of acrobat! It takes up so much resources, even some when its not being used.

I am new to posting here, I have ordered a Mini thru the Military AAFES program. ESD My Birthday...10/21.

Also on todays sale if you look into it the only feasible one to buy with enough disk space only changed $10, the one the email I got starts you out with is the 8gb ssd model. Once you add the 16gb SSD price goes up $40.

I agree. Acrobat is a POS. I use FoxIt reader. Install and running footprint is way smaller than Acrobat.

Can someone with the 16GB SSD do me a favor?

Please download ATTO Disk Benchmark and run it on your mini?

    http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1137/mirrors.php

Someone with compression on and with compression off would be ideal.

I would like to know how the SSD compares. The benchmark below is from my dell 1405 with 80GB SATA disk.

I'll work on getting one with the compression on, but it takes awhile for the computer to turn compression on/off.

    Enjoy!

    EDIT:

Ok I think something's wrong, because I ran the test again and got these results:

    Thank you for sharing.

I just cancelled my 16GB with XP and ordered 8GB Ubuntu. I originally ordered XP because the Ubuntu version was more expensive. But now that there's a discount for Ubuntu, it's a no brainer. XP is an aging OS and bloated. Ubuntu has a major update every six months and a huge repertoire of free software. I was planning to install Ubuntu myself and keep XP for just in case. But it's better to get Ubuntu from Dell since they'll have all the drivers sorted out.

    I'm also ordering a 2GB Crucial DDR2-667 stick and a 32GB MyDigitalSSD.

I don't know. But it's only $10.99 after rebate. Much better than $25 to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB on Dell's website.

This was the one I got http://shop3.frys.com/product/5442679?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

And I'm waiting for this to ship: http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/SP...i-9-----80000871-1220584935.jsp#productphotos

I don't know how jalpert got the $100 off, but that's one heck of a deal.

I reordered mine and got free next day shipping.

I should clarify. Dell has canceled 2 of my orders because of issues, and even the 3rd order had problems. I will just have one computer. Naturally I complained, original order 9/13 ESD 9/29, new ESD is 11/6, so almost a month and a half...

You can find the AAA discount at http://www.aaa.com/dell

So, if you were in the acrobat fiasco like I was give dell a call and see if they will do something for you, $100 is significant. Maybe you were like me and wanted Ubuntu anyway, so that's another $40. I don't travel until Feb so I can wait.

I just saw this on MyDellMini forum and it works:

The drivers do appear on the website, but only seven show when you first go in. If you select another category such as "video", then go back to the "all" category, 19 files appear.
