shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
But if you are going to be insolent enough to try and second guess me on the netbook definition (look it up somewhere else for all I care) or that the Wind has 2 slots (I have installed RAM in the second slot personally) then I really think you need to grow up... -
The S10 kind of has two slots. The 512MB is soldered on and then it has a slot for an extra stick. Most though seem to be 1 slot to save space.

I ran file system benchmarks with Sisoft Sandra 2004 on my desktop PC with a 120GB Seagate SATA drive (older model) and on my Mini 9 with a 16GB SSD. Here are the results:

Dell has the mini as part of the 10 days of deals for $399...but wait..when you option it up you get $80 off (wow!) but then are forced to buy a 4gb SD card for $27! Maybe its a glitch or Dell pulling a fast one!
Come on Dell, that is just not right! -
They're showing the 1gb 8gb SSD Windows versions for a $479 starting price, and then taking $90 off that, then adding a goofy 4gb SD card for $30, and then applying a 10% discount off that, for a price before taxes and shipping of $396.
You can get the same thing for $399 off the "regular" Dell site.
That is not a big deal to me...

The perfect case - I'm looking for a case that's a little larger than the mini, so I can put 8.5x11 papers or yellow pad in it, is thick enough to accommodate the charger without bulging, and has slots for cards and pens. Has anyone seen anything like this? Thanks.

"Inspiron Mini 12 pops up on Dell's website: it's a done deal (almost)"
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~ck=gp&SystemID=INSPIRON1210 -
hopefully they'll actually put the mini 12 completely out there so we can see pricing and configuration options! I'm curious to see what it's going to be like. -
It's dedicated for the I12, like this one is for the I9!
Title to be changed to *Official*, when it's finally official LOL

Just for the record, the 10 Days of Deals deal for the Mini today sucks compared to EPP pricing. You still save about ~$30 or ~$70 if you go with Ubuntu, making the fully spec'd version $422.22 without tax or shipping.
In addition, the 10 day deal gives you $80 off, but makes you buy an overpriced $30 4gb SD card. -
I build a mini with the 10 days deal and it didn't make me buy a 4GB SD card.
419 with Blue tooth. The only difference I see from the regular 399 system is the memory is 1GB instead of 512MB. Haven't order yet, when does this deal expire??? midnight?

actually, their math is all weird now that I'm looking at it closer.
With blue tooth, 1GB DDR and 4GB SD card, the price is $419.
Which is not a bad deal since the $399 prebuilt has no blue tooth, 512MB memory and no SD card.
20 bucks for the extras are not bad. -
I've been looking for a carrying case for my mini and was wondering if anyone has tried this?
http://www.caselogic.com/e_sling_medium/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=125395
It looks like there is room for a little more stuff such as my PSP, DS & cell plus some games.
Anyone have any feedback? -
$419 gets you bluetooth. Then add the webcam ($444) and the larger SSD drive and you get $484. These prices are WITHOUT the $30 extra that you have no choice in paying for the SD card. So $449, $474, or $514 respectively.
This exact combo is $422.22 with unbuntu and $464 (with XP) on the EPP site and has to expiration without the overpriced SD card. -

Has anyone tried playing 720p video on their Mini 9?
I streamed a .mkv video yesterday that was 1280x720 with x264 encoding from my desktop and it played the first minute or so perfectly and then it started skipping frames and eventualy (within 20-30 seconds) it would pause for seconds at a time and then play for 1-2 seconds and pause again.
I used Media Player Classic with ffdshow codec.
It would seem the I9 is perfectly capable of playing 720p videos, but for some reason it slows down after a while. Maybe the video memory runs out?
I'll try to play the video again from the SSD instead of through the network and report my results. -
hmm...
You would think so, but it looks like the discount dropped the mini price $30 at the check out screen.
So this one below comes out at $399 with the SD card. I removed the bluetooth to help simplify. The memory is still 1GB by default, no web cam.
I clicked until the last screen before paying.

Can any Mini 9 owners help me out?
A friend purchased the top-spec Mini 9 and has been so far unable to get the Bluetooth working. I tried AC power, Device Manager, the wireless Fn key... all to no avail. Is there some power setting that has disabled Bluetooth? How can I re-enable the Bluetooth module? -
1. Bluetooth On
2. WiFi On
3. Bluetooth+WiFi On
4. Bluettoth+WiFi Off
The icon has a "W" in it.
If there program is not installed, I think you can find it in one of the DVDs shipped with the mini that also has other drivers.
EDIT: I just found out that Wireless Select switch is called up when you press Fn+2 so verify that the program is installed. -
Cin
That's not bad!
Thanks!!!!

So much for your "every other netbook have 2 RAM slots" statement. -
I think there is more than one netbook with 2 slots. I know one with two but only one you can actually add memory too one, but i'm sure there is another one beside the Wind that has it. I didn't even realize the memory slot thing was that big an issue considering most netbooks run XP out of factory unless you think about the mini note from HP.

I woke up last night and specced out the Inspiron mini from the Dell "10 Days of Deals" promotion @ 3 am last night via the EPP website and got it down to $343 minus another 4% for buying with DPA but having to pay tax and shipping ($9.99 for 3-5 days). I decided to sleep on it but by the morning they tacked on a mandatory purchase of a 4 GB SDHC card for another $20 that killed the deal.
I guess you have to jump on the deal when you can. ASUS just came out with a $299 Eee PC netbook so hopefully this puts some downward price pressure on Dell.

Yes, that's how it is with Dell...one day/moment a great deal..The next, possibly gone
I learned that many times with Dell..when I first started looking for my lappy!Somtimes, its best to grab it when you see it! But, what happens is our *human nature* takes over LOL

Should I be concerned with the magnetic closure flap to close the cover and possibly losing data on an SSD or SDHC card, or are the cpu sections insulated some how? Or.....are the magnets just not very strong? -
The magnets won't do a single thing to anything inside the laptop so you don't need to worry.
-
Magnets are only an issue if they're stronger than the magnet in a certain storage medium. SSD and SD cards do not use magnets for storage (compared to the magnet based storage of a HDD), so you won't do any harm to them.

Does anybody know what the slot is behind the battery? Does it work?

hi all'
Does anyone know what the expected read/write life of the drive is. being a pata (a know defunkted standard). my though is how long will it last. or would this be a good time to pick up a few spare pata drives.
thank you in advanced for your thoughts. -
A quick question to anyone that has received an Obsidian black mini, what does it say on your packing slip as far as "base LCD assembly". The first mini i ordered in black says "311-9256 obsidian black color with glossy finish" on line 2 of the packing slip, but at the bottom one line before the last it says " 313-7128 Base LCD Assembly in White". Im wondering if this is why it shipped the wrong color the first time. The new order they put in for me is exactly the same (but its supposed to come in black like it should have the first place). Im just hoping they dont send me a white one again by accident.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying constant beeping after you reach 10% battery life? I mean one beep is fine but every 15 seconds or so is very annoying XO
-
in kde go to open/power managment/deselect alarms
there might also be something in Bios under power management.
I can say for sure as I am waiting on mine to ship.
as always "your mileage may very" -

I worried about the sleeve that I received with my 1530 from Dell, it was magnetic..but it was so small, making it not powerful enough to do any damage!
Cin -
*nope didn't work >.< hoping the next bios versions will include an option to turn the speaker off and fix that desktop icon thing. -
Any other case options for the Mini9? I'm looking for something fits it like a Glove - just enough to protect it while its inside regular laptop bag.
-
I have this case from Kroo for my mini. It fits it perfectly although it was made for the Asus EEE. I carry my mini in my teachers bag so I wanted something a little more protective. This case has rigid sides which keep the laptop from bumps and scrapes. I also like that it has a handle--I think Kroo also makes it without a handle if you just want a protective fitted case. Its well made and rugged
There is room for small things inside the inside pocket but not the AC adapter which is too fat. That's my only complaint..
http://www.amazon.com/Kroo-11038-Cu...6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1224393661&sr=8-6 -
The kroo looks great - I'd like to get it w/out the handle but was not able to find it on Amazon.

I just got a Kenningston Slimblade Track mouse. The mouse side works great. I was using it on my kitchen table with a table cloth. I can't get the trackball mode to work though, any ideals?

Does anyone have the following problems?
1)always boots into XP with the wrong resolution, but automatically changes to proper 1024x600 a second later. meanwhile, icon arrangement is messed up presumably due tot he resolution switching.
2)battery counter doesn't show time remaining, only percentage.
3)randomly locks up for 1-2 seconds at a time sometimes; doesn't seem to be ram or CPU related. SSD issue?
If anyone's got any of these problems, are there any known fixes or workarounds that are proven to work? I've tried some suggestions for #2 but nothing seems to work. -
Also, could anyone possibly change the thread title so that somewhere in there, it reads "Mini 9"? As this is the primary marketing name for the laptop, it stands to reason that this would make searching for and finding this thread easier. I didn't find this thread til I searched for Inspiron 910! =p
