I purchased a Tucano Laptop Bag Black Skin Sleeve from PCWorld.co.uk and it fits nicely. I think it was made for an eeepc.

As a head's up for everyone, Best Buy is now offering the 9 on it's website:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9078151&type=product&id=1218016541159 -
I wonder if they plan to put it in the stores eventually. Maybe when the supply gets more plentiful.
-
So, this is why all the orders have been delayed, etc?? Because they were getting a huge amount ready for Best Buy??? lol...
Ahh, I see already *backordered*No store pickup!!
Looks like it's only available in *white*, or am I not reading it correctly...
So, since BB has it avail'...we shall soon see it at other stores, soon?

Just what I was looking for Thx -
Now that I have the sleeve case taken care of - is there another case just large enough for the min and the AC adapter? I plan to mostly carry it in side another laptop bag with a 1730wow - but on the occasion that I have the MINI on its own it would be nice to have something that was still small but large enough to carry the ac adapter.
-
This case is amazing
http://www.caselogic.com/products/index.cfm?modelid=70120&sourceId=CLFROOGL01&CAWELAID=128912926
fits perfectly, cheap and it does what I want it to do -
Anyone else notice that Dell is cheating us with the SSD space?
When fully formatted with no other partitions, it shows 7.11GB of available space (7,600,xxx bytes) instead of the normal 7.5gb ( 8,000,000 bytes) That a normal 8GB drive should show. I feel cheated of my 400MB -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_Overhead
Don't blame Dell for this the HDD manufacturers and now the SSD have been using this 'new math' for years... -
Looks good for 5 bucks - will see if I can find it locally.
-
these issues are really getting on my nerves -
Issue #1: It appears it sometimes can be resolved by reinstalling the video driver and other suggestions mentioned in this thread: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/resolution-problem-t103.html and see this link about IE7 & Icons: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/desktop-icons-p922.html
Issue #2: As posted by Zinite in this thread here is a program that will show remaining battery life in terms of hours and minutes: http://www.mioplanet.com/products/batterymeter/
Issue #3: The only place I've seen anything discussed about stalls is here -- unfortunately I have not read about a resolution for the stalls: http://mydellmini.com/forum/mini-and-stalls--p122.html -
It's nice looking for a sleeve!
Looks like you already found something for the case!

Dell made a small mistake on the initial Ubuntu run.
http://www.dellideastorm.com/articl...allation_not_just_4_GB_if_the_drive_is_bigger -
...I just checked it out! Indeed, they did make a *small* mistake eh? I'm sure there will be more add's to the topic/discussion on that site & here!!

I heard about this - My Mini 16GB was ordered with Ubuntu - but I plan to wipe and load XP as soon as it is delivered.
-
I originally posted this HERE.
But am posting it here at the suggestion of user cmarcho.
My Mini came with BIOS ver. A00.
With this BIOS I had issues with my Bluetooth GPS, using MS Streets and Trips 2008, as soon as the software connected to the GPS it would consistently crash (Streets and Trips), with a memory error. This really sucked for me, one of the reasons I bought this mini 9 was to see how it would do as a GPS, on an upcoming road trip.
That problem has gone away with BIOS version A01 (dated 10/2/08).
They do not list the fixes incorporated in BIOS A01, but if you are having any issues with Bluetooth devices, or memory errors, in software that connects to any device, updating to this version may help. -
Shipped: 10/20/08
EDD: 10/22/08 -
According to SiSoft Sandra, the Mini 9 has (8) USB 2.0 ports and (8) USB 1.1 ports for a total of 16! Imagine how many mods you can do with so many ports

I wonder where the other (7) USB 1.1 ports are. Any ideas? -
I was the one with the failed SSD who has been through hades to get a working laptop. I called today and they gave me the order number. Great except that the display is on backorder according to the dell rep. It was supposed to get to me today but clearly did not... I JUST want a mini that works. Why is that too much to ask of Dell???
-
shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;
Just a guess but maybe...lol
-
FYI everyone, The Mini is now in the Dell outlet. check out www.delloutlet.com
-
Sadly only a $50 discount =( -
-
Thanks for the info, and the linky!
Cin -
en so so
i have eeepc 1000 -
How do you like your EEE??
Cin -
I just received mine, it looks great!
It is very very small when I put it side by side with my XPS M2010! -
Have you thought about doing a *side by side* photo comp'? That would be kind of cool to see!
Enjoy......
Cin -
I guess we didn't have to wait too long before they actually got to the outlet thanks to the shipping fiasco.
-
hey doum when did you order yours?????
-
-
Thanks for the link "Mini at Outlet" - I had two of these on order and still no ETA.... Found the two that i was looking for in the Outlet and should have them middle of next week. I assumed the SSD was the delay but apparently the Outlet is stocked full of 16's.
-
The Outlet seems like the place go to right now, you'll get your system much more quickly.
-
Yep! I canceled my stalled Mini and ordered from the outlet. I saved 60 bucks and will receive the computer early next week.
Big thanks for the heads-up. -
Score with the Outlet - I ordered 3 of these yesterday (2 black -1 white) and got some very nice BONUS'ES. All 3 were at the $389 price point one of them came with a 3 year warranty - one with a 2 and one with the standard 1 year. For parts I eneded up with an extra 30 watt power supply, 4 cel battery - and my favorite Free-Bee is the Logitech V22 Flamingo Pink Mouse
-- Guess I'll either toss this or paint it something other than PINK.
Seems kind of odd that the original options folks picked for their laptop's come with the laptop's when they goto the depot. I spend a day or so looking through the Mini's on the Outlet and most had ZERO options then all at once two popped up last night.
Update - Just got email saying all 3 have shipped out yesterday - so I should have them Monday/Tuesday!!!! And just think my Dell order had no SHIPPING DATE.
Thanks again to BIG who pointed us to the Outlet - I never looked because I did not want a previously used unit - but these are all "NEW -Previously Ordered- but not shipped" - or at least thats what they say.
I configured one on the Dell site and its nearly 900 bucks - so for $440 2nd day shipped its a SUPER deal.

Here's something interesting from Engadget:
(if already posted, sorry's)
* Dell rebrands its own Mini 9 as the Vostro A90, jacks the price to absurd levels*
http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/24/...9-as-the-vostro-a90-jacks-the-price/#comments
Hmmm....for around $1K..
Cin -
So I could pick-up a Mini9 from the Dell outlet, flash it with the Vostro A90 bios: http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/A90_A00.exe then turn around and sell it for twice what I paid for it on Ebay!!
P.S> Really don't suggest trying to flash yur Mini with the A90 BIOS...although it would be interesting to see what it does! -
(Though it would be a money maker)!!!!! hee hee OH Lulz...
Does anyone like the look's of the Vostro A90???
Cin -
not at that price. -
And, you know I prefer the color choices!!!!
Cin -
Subject Vostro A90
This is perfect for brain dead IT types that show up in most of the top 500 companies. Dell is really going to make a killing in the business world on these. -
At almost $1K for a netbook...I can see it happening...

1: There is an executable that is included with the driver, called persistance or something.... it's in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and launches when you login. This changes the resolution to 1024 x 600. If you delete this key, you'll notice the resolution stays at 800x600 after logging in. Seems like poor driver writing to me, that they can't at least make this a service that loads at boot time or something to change the resolution. I am thinking of testing this out by making it a service and running it earlier at boot time. It really annoys me because if you put a password on your account or join to a domain, the first login screen after a reboot is at the 800 x 600 resolution and looks crappy.
2: This is a known issue... have to use 3rd party battery app to see remaining time.
3: I thought this was SSD related, so I ran perfmon and set the logging interval for 1 second and monitored disk queue length, data read and written to the disk, along with %cpu used for every process. I noticed mine was pausing quite a bit and it was extremely annoying. So bad that I was cosidering getting rid of my mini after one day of use. Looking through the perfmon, I could see where the disk queue length would go very high for brief periods, where the pause occurs. Maybe the driver needs work? Don't know.
I found that removing the anti-virus software resolved it. I use Computer Associates E-Trust, but I'm sure having any a/v will do the same. So running without a/v my mini is running smooth again. Not sure what I'll do about this as I don't want to run without a/v all the time.
Before removing the a/v I tried removing as much background processes as I could and it didn't really help. Now, is the a/v the problem or the SSD can't handle the load the a/v is putting on it? I can't really tell. -
After having my mini 9 for 3 weeks now, I can fully say I love it.
Because of the RAMDISK I created, applications fly (word opens as soon as you click it) and the internet seems so be a lot faster (as in click and it appears instead of waiting for stuff to load).
I've typed 2 papers on it, and rarely have typos now, and my speed is almost of what it is on my normal laptop.
I love mine. In fact, I was going to get a iPod Touch for christmas, but decided against it. Figured that in the same amount of time it would take for the ipod to load the page, i could have my mini out, check the internet in a real browser and be finished. -
It's nice to know that the keyboard is fairly easy to use once you get used to it, also!
It gives those that havent ordered yet...and idea of what to expect~!
Cin -
Details on your ram disk would be nice -
-
Move the computer's tempory file directorys to this new drive. I have mine set at 384MB on my 2GB stick.
Also move firefox's cache to this new drive.
As long as you don't turn the computer off or hibernate it and leave it go into S3 standby everything will be fine. As soon as you turn it off or hibernate it (rebooting should be fine) and or remove the battery, the contents of the ramdisk are lost
